Very nice and well run 2 sheet ice arena with a full service proshop, snack bar and clean locker…read morerooms. This ice arena is home to several college and HS hockey teams and also hosts figure skating, youth hockey and open skates. Their snack bar is great, it even serves beer as well as food like hot dogs and snacks. Its a little chilly inside the rink but there are viewing areas up top which are heated. Overall, great facility and staff. Perfect for seeing a hockey game

What a rude and unprofessional place this is. A family member was going to this center for a…read moreschool ice skating field trip and we wanted to know if there would be a charge to use walkers in this arena because the skater who would be there is a tiny girl who doesn't have much experience on ice and we didn't want her hurt by bigger, faster and more experienced skaters. This was also a very reasonable concern because other places have charged an extra $10 for the rentals of these items! I called after 9:00 a.m. on a Wednesday which was during their business hours but could never get ANYBODY to answer the phone or even have the BASIC professional courtesy to return my voicemails! It was also so annoying that the voicemail didn't list departments like NORMAL voicemails do (Human Resources, front desk, etc) but gave employee names at different extensions. I have no clue who these people are or what their job capacity is so how would I know who to request? I left a voicemail with 3 of the staff and it is late in the afternoon the same day and not ONE of them had the decency or common courtesy to return my call. I would NEVER recommend this place that treats people so poorly and rudely.

There's convenient parking outside and helpful, friendly staff inside. The rates for admission and skate rental are very reasonable and they have open skate during lunchtime all year round with additional periods during weekends and holidays. There's a small concession stand and a few games for the non-skaters or those taking a break. The restrooms are clean and well-maintained in this family-friendly establishment.

Griff's West boasts TWO full sized hockey rinks, named blue and red. It hosts what you'd expect: youth hockey through adult leagues, a pro shop, snack bar, public skating, and skate rental. An added touch is that this space is run by the Grand Rapids Griffins professional hockey club, so Griff's is decked in Griffins player photos, season schedule, and other memorabilia. It also means a solid central management that takes care of the building. Public skating is nice here, although sometimes there's music playing and sometimes there's not. (I wish music played all the time--I don't even care what kind.) And be aware the building to me seems really really cold even compared to other ice rinks, so unless you're skating hard, bundle up. Same goes if you're watching hockey here; layer up or you'll be chilly on the aluminum bleachers. But cold means better ice, so pick your pleasure. Pro tip: Sign up through their website to receive their public skate schedules texted to you. This is nice.

Ticketing was a little confusing, the website indicated we needed to pay for parking ahead of time otherwise it would be an additional $5 the day of the game, so $15. I bought a parking pass online for $10 but then when we got to campus, no one checked or asked for this pass and there were "free" lots near the stadium - so I think I wasted $10. Not a great first impression, haha. We had to park a good distance away but followed the crowds toward the stadium, which is pretty small compared to the Big 10 stadiums I've been in, but bigger than a high school football stadium. They were lighting off fireworks after every time GVSU scored, which was a lot. (The final score was 56-3!) The energy from the bands and students was high and the weather was great. Concession prices were very reasonable and we got some chips and cheese and fountain beverages. Note that only small clutches/purses are allowed, or larger clear bags. They checked my purse but didn't have any metal detectors for people entering the stadium. The bleacher seating is pretty hard for sitting the entire time, but I saw people brought in padded seat cushions and we had a blanket.

Fun holes, good variety. Fair pricing for a round of golf and a cart. The only downside is that the holes are a lot of down and back so you can see multiple holes at a time. But they did what they could with the space they had. Good driving range. I did not eat any of the food, but will update when we try it out.

I've done at least a dozen leagues with GRSSC, and I'm really glad I found them! They offer nearly…read moreeverything you can think of... from your standard games like volleyball or basketball to your less common activities like euchre and backyard games. You can come with a full team of your friends or sign up as a free agent and make some new ones! I think the best part of GRSSC is the competitive level. Some of the sports like flag football, broomball, and dodgeball can be a bit more intense than the others, but overall they are a great balance between justforfun/casual and compeitive/challenging (especially if you're a volleyball lover). The website is well organized, but the leagues themselves are really not. You'll do all of your own scorekeeping during the games, play referee, ball fetch, and even have to log your own scores into their website afterwards. The music in the background may or may not be up and running depending on the day, and the partner bars have no notable discounts. I think they're a teensy bit high priced.. if you're providing them with a whole team full worth of players you should get a bit of a discount. Overall I'd say that it's worth it... you'll have a blast, meet some great people, and stay active playing sports and activities you love.

I showed up on my first night of dodgeball, hesitant at how adult dodgeball would work, if there was going to be nothing but weirdos there, and if I'd get hit in the face with balls and break my nose, which would not be cool for my professional job. Good news - everything worked out just fine. A dodgeball game lasts about an hour and you play against different teams for the duration of the season. Dodgeball is played with nerf style balls, not old school rubber balls so that limits the chance of injury if you get hit in the face. My three friends ad I were placed on a team with totally normal, not weirdo people and I met tons of other young professionals during that first season. Since then, I've played on flag football teams, kickball teams and I think I subbed for a bowling league once. They rotate through different sports during the year so each session brings a new chance to meet people and try a different sport. GRSSC is heavy on the social aspect of things, so don't expect this to be filled with competitive, aggressive types- it's set up to be fun for everyone. There is an after bar for each sport/season that offers drink specials. Most people go to the bar afterwards and that's where you meet each other. That's where the good stories take place ;) Now, years later, people I've met through GRSSC have gotten married (to other people they met in GRSSC!) had kids (with GRSSC people), we've taken road trips and had birthday parties for each other, and the majority of us have stayed in touch through other events. I defiantly recommend joining if you are new to the area and want to get out or just looking to meet new friends.

It was only $30 for the round + cart, which seems really reasonable to me (although I don't play often so I could be wrong). I bought some golf balls in the shop for $20. You can rent golf clubs as well. Since it was so early we didn't partake in any beverages, but they have lots of options for you to take out on the course with you. The guy who rang up our purchases also said the food at the restaurant is really good. The menu sounded tasty so I'd be interested in trying the food next time. The course seemed pretty decently kept for the most part, but some areas of grass were a little sad. I personally don't care about that but I know some golfers can be particular. It took us about 2 hours to play the back 9 and I had a great time. I will definitely come back to this golf course in the future.
