As a woman with limited knowledge, I wanted to be sure not to overpay, so I called a few places and East Coast Auto Repair offered to check my car out the next morning, which worked great for me. (I was right about the high quote from the dealership by almost $400.) I asked the person who greeted me at the shop if they had time to complete a thorough check of the car while they had it for my brakes and they did. When completed, their review included the work on the brakes and only the usual maintenance type things with no pressure for any additional, or possible unnecessary work. In fact, they appreciated my need to control my expenses and made suggestions on how I could get the most out of my car. The people working there were polite, knowledgeable and honest. They deserve their high ratings and I am happy to be able to have found this exceptional auto repair shop close to my new home. I highly recommend them.

I got quotes all above 3500 for the job. AG came in below that and I had heard good things about them. So even though they are a drive for me I went with them. They did a terrific job and had it turned around quick. It was also $1000 less then most other quotes and the car runs great again. He even replaced some gaskets since they had the engine out so that I have fresh ones to avoid future problems. The owner Angelo is a really great guy and seems to run a great business. Mechanics sometimes get a bad rap because some of them will take advantage of you. So it's great to find a honest and highly competent repair shop that charges reasonable prices. After nearly a week before it was inspected, my mom--who was in contact with Scott throughout--was told the shifter cable was BROKEN and quoted $600 for the repair, plus about $200 for the new part, taxes, an oil change, and other related expenses, bringing the total estimate to around $800. At no point was debris mentioned. We got a second opinion at a garage on High Street in Danvers. They inspected the car the next day and said they performed a thorough assessment. They found nothing wrong with the shifter cable. Instead, they found a large walnut lodged against the cable, along with other debris, preventing it from shifting. After cleaning it out and completing the oil change, the car worked perfectly. Total cost: $50. AFTER this review was posted, Eric contacted us and said the shifter cable had come out of position and might eventually break--information that was NOT shared during the original diagnosis or almost week of communication my mom had with Scott. Being quoted close to $800 for a repair that ultimately wasn't necessary, and only receiving a fuller explanation AFTER speaking out publicly, raises serious concerns for us about the thoroughness and reliability of the initial assessment

Sounded pricey. I ran it over to BAW along with a set of spark plugs I got direct from LR (I thought I could change them til I couldn't figure out how to d/c electrical). He replaced plugs, told me my brakes were corroded w photo. Also, what was causing engine light. Surprise! The fuel line, which on a Rover is the whole flippin' system. We did brakes first, then the fuel system. I'm SO HAPPY! She's better than she's been in ages! I can be pretty tough to please and I'm giving Jon and his place two thumbs up.
