When we started, we didn't know really what I wanted to do other than make my front and backyard beautiful. I was very impressed with how Peter communicated and collaborated his ideas with my own-without making me feel dumb for not knowing landscaping lingo nor having a green thumb! Once we agreed on the idea Peter and his team set in motion an awesome plan of action. His response time is immaculate and his transparency with our process, making our desired dreams come true, in a very practical way, is admirable. I feel like I'm talking to someone who actually cares about my tomatoes!! And I love running to our garden to grab some fresh basil for the pizza, or cilantro for my breakfast avocado toast!! The thing I love most about Habitat Gardens approach is that it is a work in progress. I love being able to actually watch my garden come to life, rather than plant some fully grown trees in my backyard, although I'm sure he could do that too! (lol) I also love being able to take credit when my friends see how native my plants and flowers are. The work speaks for itself! I love being able to learn about more sustainable garden practices and see how even something as small as my backyard can help create a more eco-friendly environment-which seems to be a pillar of what Peter and his company is about! He's a good dude and worth every penny! Would highly recommend! Even to my mother-in-law who I don't really have a good relationship with!

Enter Habitat Gardens! Peter came over for a chat and then had the place shipshape for transformation in no time. He is a good listener, and can somehow interpret one's mindless garden ramblings and transmute them into a cohesive garden plan using suitable species for the terroir. He is adaptable to one's schedule, budget and foibles. My garden is now in the process of a major transformation into a beautiful, unique outdoor space that will provide me with culinary surprises, scented shrubs and beautiful blooms.

I didn't know how good roses can smell (truly, truly intoxicating) until I discovered Vintage Gardens. They are part of a group of passionate rose growers who are reviving old root stocks and propagating those endangered varieties that no one knows about. Packed with petals and drenched in perfume, these are roses as they're meant to be. If you garden at all, it's worth ordering some of their bare root roses to plant in your garden, and you might think about a trip to Sebastopol to check out their gardens (see their website for their private garden location).

Not only do these roses have beautiful flowers and divine old rose fragrance, but many of them are drought tolerant as well. Old garden roses are easy to grow and easy to maintain. They also add a lot of value as shrubs. If you have only seen and struggle with modern Hybrid Teas, you will be in for a treat by growing old garden roses. I highly recommend that anyone interested in having a garden in our current times of drought should look into old garden roses. They are the most rewarding plants and so easy to grow.
