    Flowers in the preserve

An endangered hidden gem. I saw a post on Nextdoor talking about this amazing place and how it might be going away so I had to come see it while I still can. This place is absolutely gorgeous, this is more than just a nursery, it's much more like a park or nature preserve. Come out and see this place while you still can.

A visit to Hidden Forest Nursery yesterday was poultice to my soul after these first weeks of 2025. Highly recommended for reviving your heart and spirit with the scent of green leaves, moss and humus-rich soil and the discovery of delicate camellias floating above your head. The mother and daughter team endeavoring to care for these acres of plant life is admirable, courageous and worthy of our support. Please visit and take home a plant!

Have visited twice in the past 2 weeks, and saw all sorts of new "treasures". Spoke to all 3 generations of women who now own the gardens. Beautiful time of the year with rhodies, azaleas, foxglove, redwood trees providing shade, lake with fountain, inviting gazebo...highly recommend for a couple hour visit!

Excellent local garden center. I do native plant landscaping as a side business and have a degree…read morein plant and soil science, so I like to think I know what makes a good garden center. This particular location has a terrific selection of most types of plants. Lots of edible stuff like veggie starts and fruiting bushes and trees. The majority of the available plants are mix of Mediterranean and CA native landscaping plants with a handful of the standard shrubs/trees you'll find at every nursery in the U.S. like crepe myrtles and ornamental conifers. Also tons of herbaceous flowering perennials ranging from 4" pots up to 5 gallons. Also, a great house plant selection! I also believe this spot deserves some serious credit for their selection of native plants. One of the only spots in California you can readily purchase 4" starts of native annuals as well as cryptic and rare perennials. Just a couple days ago, I saw they were selling tomcat clover! That is just too cool. I also just bought a ground cover cultivar o CA buckwheat I've never even heard of. They clearly have someone in their procurement department who knows a good deal about natives. In terms of dry goods, they have a wide variety of pottery as well as all your standard garden center goods such as fertilizers, pest control, irrigation equipment, and general gardening supplies. What really tickles me is their bulk seeds. They have a full hallway with containers on either side with scoopers where you can buy any Lb amount of these seeds. They have tons of landscaping and pasture grass seed as well as some neat cover crop and cover crop mixes. My only complaint about this section is that not all labels have the scientific names. Some do, which is great since you know exactly the species that is being sold. However, one of the erosion control mix listed an annual "California festuca" and a perennial "California festuca". Unsure what species are being sold or if they are actually CA natives. Ultimately not a big deal and I'm sure the staff would be happy to get me the details. BUT if I made the labels...I may include the scientific name ;) All in all, this store and its other locations are a shining light in a dim world of big box stores selling garbage. You truly can find whatever you need for your projects here. I aways stop in when I'm in the area and buy a handful of things. I'll be a customer for as long as they are around!

We always get flowers, fruit trees, gifts, and Happy Frog dirt here. During this visit we noticed it was bare root season. I remember enjoying beautiful and sweet mulberries from Brentwood a couple years ago and they were selling different varieties so we scooped one up and hope it thrives happily here. Employees are always friendly and helpful whether you come in person or call with questions. Inside they have a nice assortment of seeds, houseplants, fertilizers, books and all sorts of gardening supplies. As we were checking out, I noticed they have barrels of all kinds of potatoes! Always such a well-maintained nursery with a robust inventory of products.

I didn't know how good roses can smell (truly, truly intoxicating) until I discovered Vintage Gardens. Packed with petals and drenched in perfume, these are roses as they're meant to be. If you garden at all, it's worth ordering some of their bare root roses to plant in your garden, and you might think about a trip to Sebastopol to check out their gardens (see their website for their private garden location).

I had such a great experience at Pond & Garden this weekend! We are repeat customers who just love…read morethe place (we are plant nerds). We live a couple hours away, but come by when we visit family in the area. We stopped in to check out the inventory and so much had changed! The lot seems to have expanded, and the inventory definitely has. A large inventory of beautiful trees, statement pieces for the garden with rare form, variegation, or hard to find cultivars. For example, a golden lace cypress that was simply stunning caught my eye. Boughs of golden lacy leaves with a gorgeous form. Many more very interesting trees, like a gold form Mugo pine, rare ginkgos, unique maples, bonsai stock trees, native oaks, elms. If you are planning a garden design and want a unique tree this is definitely your place. Great for Japanese style and any other garden design. Many dwarf species available. In addition, they have a wide assortment of pond plants, koi fish, pond equipment, pond kits, and the like. They also have a great assortment of succulents and bonsais. They even sell minerals and cute hand made paver stones that look like reds wood trunk slices. Scott, the owner, was a delight and gave me the honor of seeing his private collection (an expansive selection!) of Dyckia and bromeliads and rare euphorbia and other succulents. I could have spent hours in there just taking in all the beauty of the plants. I felt like I found a kindred plant loving spirit in Scott. He's a really nice guy and treated us really well. The best part was the prices were really great. I picked out numerous plants expecting really marked up prices as is typical for nurseries (it IS a business after all). However, I was pleasantly surprised by the fair pricing. I can't wait to come back to pet the dogs, check out the pigeons (they have homing pigeons in a big aviary out back), and nerd out on bonsais and succulents again. If you are curious I highly recommend stopping by.

I parked in front on the 116 side. When I walked in the door the first thing I noticed was all the cute knickknacks and gifts. There were different stones and crystals home decor and of course plants. Then I walked out to more plants, trees, ponds.. This place is huge! In the far back is ponds with aquarium plants. They didn't have much on the Friday I went but they get shipments on Tuesday so I will be back! All the workers were very friendly and seemed knowledgeable. Prices were very fair. I ended up coming home with a couple flowering plants for my front porch too. I will be back for plants and also some stones for gifts. There is so much going on here it would be fun to just walk around even if you don't need anything.
