My stay was very nice! I'm happy I didn't read some of the other reviews on here. The owners only took over last year and from my understanding, they're working on bringing this place back from the previous owner's neglect. I stayed in room 1 which is on the ground floor in the main house. Right outside my room was a small communal fridge and microwave, coffee, etc. The room was very clean and nicely appointed, The bed was a large king and the bedding was crisp and clean. The only issue I had was the ac. It's an old house and central ac is what's available. The problem with that is everyone is different and one is either going to be too hot or too cold. I was way too hot however this may be due to me being a menopausal hot-flasher. The owner was kind enough to provide me with an extra fan to help me not melt. From conversing with him, I understood that they're taking people's issues with this seriously and are working on mini splits for each room. I recommended maybe portable fans in each room for the moment. The ac is there, just need a way to move it around the room a bit. My room had an absolutely gorgeous claw foot tub which I availed myself of. Absolutely lovely. At first test, I thought the mattress too firm but I am serious when I say I slept better last night than I have in a long time on smooshier mattresses. Each room is an auto lock and easy to access, no worries about losing keys. The one down side to this feature is that they set this up as a largely self-serve style place. I've stayed at b&b's before and what makes them stand out from hotels is the personal touch,.. being greeted by the innkeeper, chatting with them and getting the feeling that for a brief period at least, you've made a new friend. I missed that. However, that said, The rooms were, as I said, keyed to my personal info which in its own way, felt like a concierge level service. The expected room amenities such as soap and possible shampoos and stuff were there but the soap seemed to be of a lather-resistant variety. I held it under the water and it steadfastly refused to lather up. Most odd. Also, each room came with a comment card but zero pen available. These are not deal breaker issues of course and after more important amenities are worked on such as the ac issue, I would encourage them to pursue a nicer brand of soaps and put a pen out with the comment card. The only other issue I encountered was due to the age of the house, outlets were at a premium and all were blocked by larger furniture. You could see dings in the paint where people have shoved furniture around to reach the outlets. I was unable to charge my devices. This can be easily remedied by a power strip in each room. The breakfast was delicious and abundant. I read some reviews just now of the breakfast being scanty and also costing extra for a hot breakfast. I'm happy to report that this may have been the old owners policy because not only was breakfast delicious, they had zero problem with people asking for more of it. There was some toast and juice available on the side board as well. The dining room is small so I made a couple of friends as we shared a table. All in all a super pleasant experience. The issues I experienced were smallish and ones I've encountered at regular hotels too. I think given a bit of time, the new owners will be able to make the necessary tweaks that will make this b&b really lovely. I'll be happy to go back again in the future.

We decided to stay here at Greystone what a big disappointment. The room was dirty, the mattresses were old and I'm comfortable, you have no way to control the air conditioner Way overpriced for what it is. The lady was rude in her own way. The bed and the floors as well had ants crawling all over the place. Most likely because it's dirty The pictures are very misleading. I would never recommend this place to anyone in my family, we don't need anything fancy that's why we picked this place, but it was much less than expected

Our double bed. Very cozy quilts

I'm glad I didn't read the other reviews before staying here, otherwise I probably would have been scared off. We stayed here for a night and were fairly satisfied. Our foremost reason for staying here was the inexpensive cost for a double bed room. The house is on the older side, as many reviewers mentioned, and there's only central air so you can't control the temperature in your individual room. Thankfully, the temperature was neither too hot nor too cold in our room so this wasn't an issue. The room isn't expansive, so there was our double bed, a small closet with a single lonesome coat hanger, a small set of drawers, and a bathroom with a tiny sink. There's not much extra space in the bedroom. I found the setup, including the tiny sink, cozy but others might find it a bit cramped. There's a small common area behind one of the staircases with a microwave, fridge, and some snacks, and a honor policy for paying 50 cents to $1 for a snack or drink. There's also an eating area for breakfast, which is complimentary from 7:30-9:00. Breakfast consists of pre-sliced bananas, some pastries/muffins, plain bagels, white bread, juices, and coffee. There are about half a dozen or so tables so inevitably, you'll have to share with a stranger but everyone seemed very open and pleasant to sharing, as far as I observed. As others mentioned, there's an extra charge if you want a hot breakfast so we passed on that. There are a lot of pretty flowers on the grounds. The pool was covered, it being fall. There are some scattered seating areas outside too, like a deck sofa, a high table with stool. Our favorite part was the cat. There was a greyish cat (maybe a tabby?) on the grounds. We didn't know if she was a stray because she had no collar but she was quite plump, well groomed, and we found her inside later that night, so it seemed like she was part of the house. She was very friendly and came right up to us when we beckoned, even jumping next to us on the deck sofa outside then squeezing in between us. Overall, I'd say this place was reasonably priced and suited our needs but it's not fancy, so if you want space, comfort, amenities, and reassurance of having wifi in your room, you might be better off shelling out the extra money and staying elsewhere.

Lovely front of the house windows

I don't understand the bad reviews of this place at all! The host was the only staff we encountered but I found her to be perfectly friendly, polite, and accommodating. What else do people want, a personal butler? To sit together during covid for happy hour to share your life stories? Personally, I stay in BnBs to not be bothered with housekeeping coming in daily and changing towels I only used once, etc. Also, the house is as clean as a 140 year old house can ever be and there was no odor, musty or otherwise, as one review complained. Pay no mind and book this place when you go to Lancaster county. This is a rare Victorian beauty, minus the arsenic in the wallpaper! We stayed in Room #1, on the first floor. Right outside the room door and behind the staircase is a little alcove with a midsize fridge, microwave, tea station, honor-system snack bin, and ice machine. It was also the only guest room on the floor and was directly adjacent to the sitting room with antique sofas. That made it feel special. We did not use the sitting area because doing things like that during covid seem weird to me, but I will when we return. The room itself was so lovely I never wanted to leave. King size bed, nice linens and plenty of pillows and extra blankets were provided. Both a radiator and fireplace heater so we could make it warmer if we needed to. The house was actually incredibly quiet so if you are a city person, you should plan to use a white noise app. That being said, this room is facing the road/highway, so the trucks going by at night were loud, albeit infrequent. The furniture and decor is exactly what I expect when I stay in a Victorian manor house (which I often do). Having a tv set & DVD player plus access to the ice machine and fridge was an unexpected bonus. It was an extra level of amenities that you usually only find at hotels, not BnBs. I loved the en suite bathroom more than anything. There were plenty of towels and a hair dryer, plus it has good lighting for those of us who like to wear makeup. The high-backed claw foot tub was spotless, utter perfection and I did take several luxurious baths during our stay. I cannot recommend it enough. If you're not a bath person, the shower has two shower heads, one detachable. C'est magnifique! The grounds are pretty even in winter so we've decided to come back in the warmer months when the pool is open and the fire pit in use. However, there are currently fat, happy chickens to look at, as well as an elegant old lady cat and a young, sweet orange tabby. The breakfast wasn't what many people expect when they go to a BnB, but this is covid times and every BnB I've stayed in over the last year in Pennsylvania has been forced to make regretful cuts to staff and budgets. This will, I'm sure, not always be the case. Our plate was full of food, so I was quite happy. We got a banana, yogurt, strawberries, bacon, and two Belgian waffles with fresh whipped cream. There was fresh coffee and a big selection of tea. Plus, I believe they've lowered the current room prices to reflect the lack of a full American breakfast, as our stay was significantly lower than advertised! All in all, it was the best little getaway a Philly girl in Amish country could want. Speaking of, there's a fantastic mini horse farm run by a Mennonite family about ten minutes away, which is free! They have tiny goats and alpacas too!

    Dirty

BUYER BEWARE total waste of money. Pool was green, cushions had mildew all over them, hot tub was dirty and did not work. Breakfast was continental with stale , store bought muffins and old fruit. In fact, the same food was set out each day of our stay. Our ottoman was full of crumbs . Room had a balcony but no chairs. Inn keeper, also the owner, was scarce and impolite. Our last day she was slamming doors throughout the building which woke me and startled my wife to the point she said " let's just get out of here ". Total waste of money. We stay at many B and Bs and have never been to one with a rude innkeeper or one that does not serve a hot breakfast item

Very dissatisfied, double bed, tiny tv, and this was not the$99.00 special they always have on the sign at the road. Old bed cover on the double bed (was told we were getting a queen, that's why it was $149.00 when it was booked) I wouldn't want this to happen to anyone else going on vacation. Oh, and it's central air, hot in the room, and was told to open the window.

dirt stuck in the cobwebs in the corner of the room

I would give this "Bed & Breakfast" zero stars if I could. They are charging B&B Prices for "Seedy" motel Quality. This was supposed to be a romantic getaway for my husband & I- we go to Amish country every spring & this was the FILTHIEST "bed & breakfast" we've ever stayed at. We had to stay at the Soudersburg motel last year & it was soooo much cleaner than this & for half the price. We wanted to cancel our reservation & leave once we saw the actual room & realized we had been TRICKED by the outside decor (the outside garden is very beautiful), but the owners wife nearly screamed at my husband that there were NO REFUNDS, so we were stuck. The pictures speak for themselves. We stayed in the carriage house. The 1st picture shows what the room looked like when we booked it online & because we've had good experiences with staying in Amish country in the past, we trusted that we'd receive good quality from this place as well. NOT TRUE! THESE PEOPLE ARE FALSELY ADVERTISING. When we arrived they told us it would cost extra for breakfast- the dryest continental breakfast was included: old coffee, half drunk cheap juice from their refrigerator, fruit that hasn't been cleaned. The following pictures show the filth we encountered when we actually entered the room. There were ant motels & cobwebs all over the room, cobwebs w/ dirt in the corners, a beatup dresser & chair from the 80's, the sheets smelled clean, but they were obviously old worn out & stained, the hair dryer was from the 80's & had more dirt caked in it than the corners of the room. The shower had the hot/cold mixed up so i burned myself when turning it on. The "fresh" towels they kept bringing us had these dark red stains on them. The screens were ripped so we couldn't open the windows & get fresh air without fear of even bigger bugs coming in the room. The walls were absolutely filthy & there was paint chippings everywhere. Absolutely disgusting. There are so many affordable motels, hotels & B&B'S in Amish country that provide much better quality. DON'T BE SUCKED INTO THIS PLACE W/ LOW PRICES OR PACKAGE DEALS OR BY THE OUTSIDE SCENERY.

Easy check in, full breakfast, all had private baths, was perfect for a group. Held a wedding on site and was perfect.

I paid $200 to sleep on an air mattress...

Each room is decorated with a variety of Victorian furniture and named after something musical. This is the place where we discovered their very yummy hot apple cider! Breakfast was filling and yummy. I believe we had French Toast with a size of fresh fruits and tea/coffee. We usually come up to Lancaster to go to our favorite restaurant there, Dienner's Country Restaurant. While we were here, we also got a chance to visit Jennie's Diner, conveniently located right across the street. There are no TVs in the rooms, but we enjoyed that idea it gave us a more intimate setting. We ended up playing cards and with the chess set available in the nicely decorated living room (we were there during Christmas time). They were kind enough to take some pictures for us near the fireplace and Christmas tree. This time, like others, we went In December, and was able to enjoy our short time here. We were greeted warmly by Tim and Heidi again. I even got to enjoy some hot apple cider at breakfast! We enjoyed our time here and hope to visit again soon! :)

We topped it off with a very nice bubble bath in our in-room jacuzzi. The location is in the Amish countryside, but only a mile away from the outlets and lots of restaurants (we highly recommend Checkers Bistro in Lancaster...top notch!) All in all it was a great first experience and it definitely won't be our last. We could not recommend Candlelight Inn B&B more,
