My husband and I spent our honeymoon at "After Eight Bed and Breakfast" May 2023. Robert was chock full of helpful info, Luis was a great chef and we had something delicious every breakfast. There were small table throughout Breakfast area so you didn't sit at a long table with others but everyone got to know each other as we conversed during breakfast. The rooms were delightful and clean. Bathroom was updated with beautiful tile. I would definitely return. Don't be concerned, as we were, with how close to RT 30 it is. Once you get out of the car, you are transported back in time with the back yard and the adjacent amish farm. read more

We rarely stay at the same place twice, however, we returned to After 8, following a wonderful experience last Oct. Robert & Louis are relaxed detail oriented hosts. Their property adjoins a beautiful Amish farm, so interesting to watch. The beds are comfy and provide the most relaxing sleep (yay). Then there's the breakfast.... DElicious! I highly recommend After Eight. It's an extremely nice and inviting bed and breakfast in the Lancaster, PA, area. The innkeepers, Robert (owner) & Luis, do an amazing job of making the house feel warm and inviting...really homey. "Rude"Rude"Rude"Rude" After Driving 4 1/2 hours we arrived 14 minutes early in need to use the bathroom and lay down to relax. We were abruptly greeted "Hissy Fit"and not allowed to enter the building. He was too busy blowing off his side walk. Told us we had to come back when he was done or we can sit in his Gazebo ( Dirty, Filthy, smell of cat urine ). Checking his watch as walked around his grounds . At 3:01 he finally called out "I Can Check You In Now" It seemed like punishment. During checkin I was interrogated, Did I receive his text? "Yes" Why Did you not answer ? "I was driving and I don't read text while I'm driving" I requested to go to my room? response was ; first we MUST do a tour !! I responded "I don't need a tour I need a toilet " So he was kind enough to take us to our room. Very confusing DO's & Don'ts and told us breakfast was at 8:30. Our room was abutting RT 30 , all night long the none stop tractor trailer traffic roaring uphill kept us awake. Breakfast was to his liking , no choices you only get to eat what he likes. We stayed 2 nights and could not wait to leave. I only made it through by avoiding eye contact with this innkeeper. "TOO Many Rules and Regulations" I would Never Never Stay here again. My wife and I loved it here. When we arrived, checking in was as painless as can be. Robert, the host, had everything ready. Shortly afterward, Robert gave us a tour of the common areas. And after asking if we had an itinerary for our stay, he gave us a number of possible sites to visit (complete with brochures and business cards to refer to later). The atmosphere was very pleasant. It was right after easter, and there were a number of easter themed decorations, but not so much to make it gaudy. Over-all the interior design is calm and relaxing. The breakfast day 1 was pineapple french toast with water-mellon and kiwis. Breakfast day 2 was stuffing pie with cantaloupe and strawberries. During breakfast, Robert also proceeded to entertain the guests with jokes. In my book, the amount of detail and effort put into this bed and breakfast really shows. On top of that, the host went that extra mile so we felt comfortable and enjoyed our stay (not only indoors, but also in Lancaster). read more

Robert was super helpful and welcoming. The house is clean, quiet and inviting. We stayid in a queen bed room with its own private balcony overlooking the farm land behind the building. The breakfast He cooked for us in the morning was soo good! He told us all about the area and what local thing we could do and see the following day. We came to stay at this bed and breakfast on the recommendation from a friend and our fellow yelpers and we had a really great time. The place is clean and well decorated; the pictures on the website really didn't do it justice. Robert was very accommodating since we were checking in rather late. He pointed us to some excellent restaurants and had more than enough information to help us make decisions about where to go and what to do. Breakfast was excellent and I saw he accommodated several dietary considerations. Homemade scones and whipped cream, fruit and a flavorful egg dish. He told jokes as we ate breakfast that entertained the room full of guests. I would definitely come back. read more

Charming B & B a few miles east of Downtown Lancaster, but near enough to some local Amish/Mennonite produce stands, Dutch Wonderland, and the (wretched) outlet malls. My girlfriend surprised me with a night here, and I really appreciated the gesture, and what turned out to be a sweet, sweet experience. Where to begin? It's a delightful, repurposed house, which has been turned into only six or seven suites, set on a peaceful tract of land off the main road. The living room and furnishings are wonderful, but the real surprise here is the wonderful breakfast! We had marmalade-stuffed French toast, fresh fruit, and sausage. Had a fabulous bed and breakfast experience here!!! Will definitely return, and recommend to anyone visiting the Amish country. Had a warm welcome which started with a brief tour of the dining area and common rooms which were all decorated with a cozy-feel. Our room had a private entrance from the porch and was very clean with a home-like feel. The bed was comfortable, sheets were soft, and bathroom was clean with plush towels. Breakfast was hot, freshly made, and consisted of Apple pie French toast, sausage, and fruit salad. There was also a selection of coffee, tea, and juices. Amazing place! Robert was a wonderful host. The breakfast was also great and I love how clean the place was kept. It was a very cozy place and much better than staying at one of the local hotels. My only complaint was that breakfast was served a bit early at 8:30 in the morning. Extra snacks and drinks are kept in the kitchen in case you get the late night munchies. After staying at "After Eight B&B", we will definitely consider a B&B again. Robert was a great host, providing a great deal of info about the area, dinner restaurants,a map that he marked everything on and even a coupon! Breakfast was great, we stayed 2nights in a lovely room, comfy bed and a wonderful double shower. Kitchen was accessible for drinks and homemade cookies all day. Rooms were clean, great A/C, and activity areas to enjoy. One room had a jigsaw puzzle in progress for all to join in as desired, nice to meet new people this way. We spent one night at this off-the-beaten-path B&B and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. It was on the outskirts of the hustle and bustle of touristy Lancaster and while it was on the main road it was far enough out that traffic was not heard. Robert Hall was a most gracious host. He is a one man band and can actually cook! Breakfast was wonderful and filling. The room was perfect, clean, not over done as some B&B's can be. Although the room was small, the queen size bed was perfect. If one wants a huge fancy antibellum home this is not for you. I would recommend After Eight to anyone. This was the first bed & breakfast experience for my girlfriend and me. We thoroughly enjoyed it. Robert was very friendly, funny, and helpful. His recommendations for attractions were spot-on, and he mentioned many things that you couldn't find on a map. We stayed in the Candlelight Room. It was the perfect size with a beautiful shower/jacuzzi tub combination. The room overlooks Route 30 where the clopping of the horse and buggies is a constant reminder of where you are. The breakfasts that Robert made (German Apple Pancakes & Breakfast Pizza) were fantastic. Overall, a great place to stay in a great area. read more

On May 10, 2013, my father in law passed away after a month long illness. My fiancé and I had planned a weekend away at After Eight on May 17th. However due to the circumstances, neither of us felt we could enjoy a weekend away at that time. We were too busy making funeral arrangements and dealing with the emotions of losing a beloved father. I contacted After Eight through Expedia (I had booked our room through Expedia). Expedia contact the owner Robert to explain the situation. Robert unfortunately refused to refund our money or allow us to choose another date. If we did not use it that weekend, we would lose our money. We were not able, in our state of mind to pick another date. In an effort to not completely loose all of our money, I sent my daughter instead. It is incomprehensible to me that any hospitality business owner would be so uncaring and unwilling to work with a customer to make the best of a very emotionally stressful time.
