Bus driver assured me I would receive refund if I did not continue with the bus. Called customer service requesting refund. Was assured I would receive a refund. Made alternative transportation arrangements. Customer service refused refund because I had boarded the bus, despite the fact that the replacement bus ultimately did not arrive until 3.5 hours after the breakdown and all passengers were left stranded for that time baking in the sun at a location where the nearest services (including water) were over a mile away and over a highway overpass. In short, Greyhound failed to deliver services paid for, refused to issue even a partial refund for their failure, and lied about the availability of the refund. Bad value under all circumstances; will never use their services again.

It's a good station, and it's large and underrated, in a massive and somewhat dangerous and rough City. It's hard to get around the city without a car and it's hard to get to this Greyhound station without a car, which was just one of the problems I had here, even though it's not too far from Highways and downtown and whatnot. I was robbed in Fresno. When I played a show here they stole my tip jar. I was accosted sleeping at truck stops here. I was offered drugs here. They started a viral campaign against me filled with lies and malice and violent threats through the internet, and I'm fairly sure that the people who robbed me were connected to that. The person that started it all works for the Fresno Bee and they'll be getting a nice review from me accordingly. So it's one of my least fave towns in America, and easily the most dangerous in Cali in my opinion. There's lots of palm trees here, and don't let that fool you. I'm not a huge big fan of this Fresno passenger Depot which is also known as Fresno station, but the station itself is beautiful and old and historic. The trains and Greyhound and regional transit services including Fresno area bus is all stop here and it looks like an old Spanish fort or something, so it's really pretty. It's known as the Santa Fe passenger Depot which can be a little bit confusing and looks like an old Spanish Mill or something. Pretty nice. I took off a star because of what happened to Quintina in the other Yelp review, sigh. Horrible.

Now the same man has been operating and running the place since I was a kid, that's a loooong time, so I'm happy he has a job and that he has it quite easy since Delano doesn't have terrible transportation traffic. Some people come, some people go, no biggie. The station is extremely outdated, and usually closed. I know the poor gentleman needs some rest throughout the day, but this causes the station to close during those hours. Sometimes this causes a scare since you cannot purchase tickets at the station, luckily that is now fixed with the smartphone, web-site purchasing process of getting your ticket and using your phone instead of printing out a ticket. The station lacks AC, or heating, there's nothing particularly interesting in it either. An old arcade game. Bathrooms that are non operational. A super old phone booth that obviously doesn't work. And that's about it. The challenge is finding out information on delayed buses, and other useful information. I don't think increasing the station size is necessary, but maybe a face-lift and updating aspects about it would be helpful. TIP: there's usually a "first-come first-served" mentality when getting on the bus at this stop. Try to set your items by the side of the building, next to the poles. This will "save your spot" so you don't end up boarding last because you wanted to wait inside the shaded building. Just a thought.

I can sit at and write or eat something or play a game with someone who is with me instead of having to focus on traffic and being uncomfortable about not being able to change my seating posture for a long trip. I like the fact that I can go get a snack whenever I want to, and start up a conversation with a stranger and to make a new friend. That's what I think you want to hear when you want a review, but I want to tell you another special thing about why I love Amtrak. The sound of the train is something I have loved and that has comforted me from the first time I ever heard it when I was a child, until I bought my first house and discovered that there was a train track right on the other side of a fence that was 8 feet from my house. I learned later that the realtors were supposed to tell you that, but I was young and dumb. I had no idea of that. I was a newlywed and that happened the first night we slept there. It rattled the ground and knocked pictures and clocks off of the walls and terrified my husband and I, thinking it was an earthquake, until we heard the horn. Then we looked at each other and laughed and responded that same way as long as we lived in that house. I missed it for the longest time until many many years later I moved into a senior mobile home park that was nearby a train track, and I was thrilled to hear a train the first night I spent there. I was there five years and smiled every time I heard that that and felt my walls rattle. Between those two experiences, I had a Red Hat Society group for 12 years and we used to take the Amtrak train from Bakersfield to Hanford and spend the day there at different events they put on in the Civic Park, and then Fred the antique fire truck would pick us up and drop us back off at the train station and we would have fun riding home sharing the rolling adventures we had had that day. But the trips there and back themselves were also very fun because there were a few very sweet conductors who played with us and let us take pictures of them with us, and even tried on our hats and let them take pictures of them with us, and that kind of thing. We were a very silly and fun-loving group and we loved that! That's been many many years ago and I wish I could find those pictures...

If you go north, it does go all the way to Emeryville. However, if you're trying to go to Sacramento- It Ends in Stockton with a connecting bus to Sacramento. The ride is pretty smooth and you get complimentary, snacks, waters & sodas. I personally wish they would upgrade the Coast Starlight to how the San Joaquin is. The San Joaquin is state funded and because Californians pay so much taxes, it's a really nice train and only travels in California. The seats are more comfortable. There's tables in coach. There's wifi and restrooms are huge. Sometimes the Conductors are nice, sometimes they are very strict. When I was on my way from Emeryville to Fresno, I asked one of the conductors about sitting on the bottom of the train and he said yes. From my experience, the male conductors were nicer than the female conductors. I was already extremely exhausted from riding in from Portland into Emeryville as I had a migraine the night before. As I was sitting downstairs, I started getting told something about sitting downstairs by the female conductor, I was trying to explain to her that the male conductor let me know i can sit downstairs and she did not want to hear it and stated that this was her car that she was in charge of. Maybe, communication between the two would have gone a long way. Other than that, I have felt safe and had nothing, but comfortable rides on the San Joaquin.
