(Good for the customer, but maybe not so good for the proprietor.) Easy on-off access to the Hwy. 99, Northbound or Southbound. Lots of bathroom stalls. It opened concurrently with the interstate in the 1960's and was named for the nearby community (which was named after a historic buttonwillow tree, named a California landmark in 1952) It's about 2.5 hours from Long Beach as one is passing Bakersfield, and became a convenient stop to take a break and change drivers. The lone building housed his/her washrooms, and a drinking fountain that also allowed water bottle fill-ups.

The gas prices are also better than the other surrounding gas stations in this area. Parking is ample if you're stopping to order some food get travel information. Etc... There are well over 20+ gas pumps, so even though it's busy the wait for a pump is minimal. I can't speak on how good the Dairy Queen is as it wasn't opening time yet. It is really convenient if you're hungry. Overall, if I'm traveling down I-5 and have to make a pit stop Lost Hills will definitely be one on my list of Truck/Rest stops.
