Franconia-Springfield Metro Station - Spring in DC

Franconia-Springfield Metro Station

Dear reader,…read more Franconia Springfield Metro may not be the flashiest station in the system, but it is absolutely one of the better ones to use. It is spacious, easy to navigate, and generally feels far less chaotic than some of the other stations in the area, which is a blessing in itself. Whether you are commuting regularly or just heading into the city for the day, the whole setup makes getting around feel simple and efficient. One of its best qualities is how practical it is. There is plenty of parking, it is easy to access, and it connects well for people coming from different directions, which makes the whole experience feel very civilized by Metro standards. The station also usually feels clean and well maintained, and overall it is just a reliable place to start or end your trip. No great drama here, just a station that does exactly what it needs to do and does it well. In my book, that earns high marks.

From there, purchase your ticket at the kiosk by cash or card. If by cash you can get a maximum of $5 returned cash. A station agent is available near the turnstile should you need assistance. You will need your card both for entry and exit. Fares are different and less on the weekends and are regular price on the week days. Seats are in abundance on the weekends.

This isn't my preferred method of transportation however it's cheap and gets me where I need to go…read more The station itself is essentially a large room with a central seating area and many side doors where people meet their busses. A ticket and information counter with a slow and long line can be found at the farthest end of the room. It's easy to navigate and see where everything is from anywhere in the facility. The waiting area has the cleanliness of a public restroom The bathrooms aren't the cleanest but they're tolerable (I don't cringe with horror when I open every stall door). They're usually on time and I haven't had any major issues with my tickets besides weather related delays. It's a pretty average greyhound station!

I thought it was just the driver that was driving me to DC. Then I realized the one driving me from DC to Raleigh is just as rude. I don't understand how they can treat people with such low regards to them daily. It is very sad.

A nice eco friendly way to get to Dulles Airport without the headache. While helping family…read morenavigate to get from and to the airport, I discovered this gem. Pick up is Lfant plaza. The cost is $7 each way. Drop off in front. However plan ahead like for any trip, get here at least 2 hours early in case of traffic. And don't be a seat hog. Put your luggage in the luggage compartments. Your luggage shouldn't be rolling down the aisles, hitting my feet.

Quick and convenient sums it up most of the time. This is an express bus with 4 total stops: Dulles…read moreAirport, Herndon-Monroe Park and Ride, Rosslyn Metro Station, and L'Enfant Plaza Station. The two metro stops are transfer points to other lines. Note that the pick up and drop off locations at L'Enfant are different. Depending on traffic, the trip can be from 30-60 minutes. Other than not having many stops, this bus is able to take Dulles Toll Road in the express lane. While this is an express bus to Dulles, it is essentially a commuter bus. This, there really isn't a place to put your luggage like the airport buses. If you intend to take the bus to catch a flight, plan accordingly. If major accidents/inclement weather occurs or its rush hour, the arrival time of the bus may vary. If there are people waiting, then the bus operators do their best to fit everyone on board. However, this can lead to people standing for the commute until the last stop. If you are pretty short and the bus is packed, aim to stand near the doors where the poles are or hold on to the headrests of the seats. Otherwise it's painful to hold on to the overhead bars for so long. The fare is $7.50 via SmartTrip card (can be bought at any metro station) or exact change. There is no metro operated vehicle parking at the two metro stations. The parking at Herndon-Monroe is currently free, but I imagine that will change once the silver line station there opens up. Then it will be $4.95. Dulles Airport has its own paid parking. Note that WMATA is considering ending Bus 5a when the silver line metro station at Dulles Airport opens. This is still a proposal and not yet decided upon as of February 2020.

However if you park and ride it's very misleading. So most parking stations has the long bar when you when entering. You tap to pay when you exit. However here, its confusing. Some parking spaces has numbers let's say #40. You go to the kiosk you try to pay However its certain times that you pay and certain times thats its free. You cant pay ahead. When you do pay its like $1 an hour. If your waiting for someone to p/u the car lines cause a huge backup because its in a shared lot (I think) with restaurants. Theres no signs mentioning hours or anything. Luckily, I was meeting with friends nearby and I waited til 7pm to pay for my parking. I made sure I took a copy of my paid parking.. though my time expired... by 30 minutes. Nothing happened.. I hope i dont get any surprises in the mail.

Yes, it may be policy you're the only parking garage in the 21st century that doesn't let me leave for free in the first 15 minutes. At the end of the day it's $9. But when people are already having a bad day getting around driving in bad weather and your reflex is to laugh, there's a special place for people like that.
