My father and I have stayed at The Inn & Suites at 34 Fifty three times in the past several months,…read moreas it's a short drive from Buffalo Gap, Texas, home of the superlative Perini Ranch Steakhouse*. I was surprised to see such a low overall review of this place. The rates are reasonable, the manager is friendly and responsive, the room (#108) is clean and spacious, and the complimentary breakfast buffet is a fantastic value. The exterior of 34 Fifty is admittedly a bit ramshackle, but the front desk area, room, and halls are all clean and well maintained. My dad suffers from idiopathic neuropathy and has difficulty sleeping in most beds, so the manager was kind enough to book us room 108, which includes a comfortable leather recliner. This has been our room on three separate visits, so I know it very well! I won't bore you, dear reader, with an exhaustive (and exhausting) recount of the various amenities, but rest assured that everything you'd expect is present (HDTV, microwave, refrigerator, etc.) and that the room -- albeit a bit worn down -- is clean and comfortable. If you've read my reviews of other budget-friendly motels, then you know I usually steer clear of their complimentary breakfast buffets, as I'm not too keen on powdered eggs, flaccid bacon, and packaged, processed pastries. I was pleasantly surprised, however, at the quality of the breakfast items offered here. In addition to freshly scrambled eggs, juicy sausage patties, and plenty of fresh fruit, the buffet includes a made-to-order egg, omelet, and waffle station! That's pretty fancy for a budget motel! Many of the negative reviews of this place were written in haste or hate. Shame on user "C.F." for making borderline racist comments about Indians in his review from 2017. No, not all establishments run by Indians are dirty, nor do the linens "smell of curry." I wish they did, though, because I love lamb vindaloo. Mmmmm... Wait...I'm getting off topic again. Here's the bottom line: this place is a great option for the value-conscious traveler. *I really must review Perini Ranch Steakhouse soon. In the meantime, just check out my stellar food photos from there.

No bugs... we always check... except this sad little half dead cricket near the bathroom. The pool looked great and I was ready but the weather said nope! The front desk seems to be exclusively manned by the owner (which is fine) and he was very attentive and very nice. The really harp on no smoking, also fine since I don't smoke, and that keeps the place smelling good too. Highly recommend!

We overall really enjoyed our stay here. The front desk staff were amazing from check-in to…read morecheck-out and helped us with everything we needed. They even took time to answer our questions about the area since we're a military family relocating from Hawai'i. Their hospitality was excellent. The only downside was the housekeeping. During our 13-day stay, our room was only serviced about five times. A couple of those days we asked for no service because our toddler was napping, but other days it was missed even after we were told someone was assigned to our room. We often had to bring our own towels down for replacements and take out our trash ourselves. With six people in the room, that made things a little stressful. That said, a couple of the housekeepers did a wonderful job--especially one military spouse who left the room spotless and the one who serviced our room on 3/5 who took the time to change our bedding, vacuum our carpet and mop our tiled floors. The hotel itself is nice, common areas are really clean and the front desk staff truly made the stay pleasant. I would stay again, but for longer stays I'd just be prepared for inconsistent housekeeping.

I wish I could give them zero stars. This travel agency is an absolute joke. No wonder this is a…read moredying industry. I visited the travel office in the Abilene Mall the first week in June and after sitting there completely ignored for over 30 minutes a young clueless girl comes out and says all the travel agents were busy but she was going to take our initial information and have someone contact us. She took down all the pertinent information and said someone would call within a week. I was like okay?? We were really excited to plan our trip to Paris but all I received was a promise of a call within a week. I asked if they had brochures about Paris or anything we could take to help inform us about prices/ accommodations etc. Unfortunately I was told by the young lady that they didn't have anything like that and she didn't know of anything online that could help me but that someone would contact me "really soon." So we left anxiously awaiting our phone call. Well three weeks went by and no one called. So I called the agency back. I spoke with Hester. She told me she found my info and was not sure why no one hadn't called back but that they had been really busy lately because this was their peak season. I told her that was fine but I was really anxious to plan our big trip to Paris. She said to make it up to me she would have me some options available by the end of the day and she would email them to me to look over and then she would call later that day to see what I thought. Well I waited and I waited and I checked my junk mail to see if she had sent anything. Needless to say nothing ever came and no one ever called. It is now 4 months later and I still have not heard from this joke of an agency. Thank goodness I booked the trip through America Airlines Vacations and got the dream vacation we had been hoping for. My advice- skip these clowns and go straight to one of the airlines. They were able to schedule everything and do it at an excellent price ASAP.
