This is a long review, but if you want the short version. Bottom line, the company and the people…read more(Rick, Horatio, Skip, Tercio, and Willy) working here are awesome, when I save up some more money I will be looking to do a few more projects. First and foremost everyone with Before and After Home Improvement has a work ethic and it's a good one, no shabby shoddy work here. When Rick came to give me an estimate for the project he brought books that had the different colors and grades/levels of composite decking as well as a book with the different railing and baluster choices. Now I did have other estimates set up, however one did not show, and the other company was very nice but they emailed me the quote a few days later and told me they used Trex decking and that was it, no brochures or explaining the different options, nothing, made me wonder if I was supposed to do my own research. Rick explained the high and low end options and the differences in the type of boards Trex carries, which were also pictured in the brochure. If you are within a budget he will let you know what the pricing differences are, your best option, how long the product will last, warranties, ect. He takes the time to talk to you like you're a person and not just a customer in the assembly line. The gentlemen that came to do the work have a work ethic (getting harder to find in people nowadays), they showed up on time, didn't mind me asking questions here and there and wanted the installation to be and look the best. I highly recommend Rick and his company, he uses the same crews on all projects. Here are some before and after pictures.

When I explained what we needed, he continued with the attitude challenging me, "Well how do you know it's not coming from the roof??" Um... because that's 3 floors below our ceiling that has a leak. Wtf. He was either that stupid or going for a money grab. AVOID AVOID AVOID

AMAZING! If I could give Whitmer Decks six (or more) stars, I wouldn't hesitate…read more Cliff Whitmer and his entire crew--Sam, Mike, Pavlo, Wade, and Keen--truly knocked it out of the park from start to finish. From our very first meeting with Cliff (the company owner!) to the final walk-through with Sam, the project manager, the experience was exceptional every step of the way. The communication throughout the entire process was outstanding. Not once did we feel anything less than a top priority. Texts were answered within an hour, and emails were always returned within hours. That level of responsiveness gave us complete confidence and peace of mind. Mike, Pavlo, and Wade were the primary builders, and they were phenomenal. They treated us like rock stars during the entire three-and-a-half-week build. Mike, the lead carpenter, took the time to explain every phase of the project in detail, which my wife and I truly appreciated. Whitmer Decks removed our old deck and built a beautiful new 14x12 screened porch, along with a 10x10 deck and staircase. I'm no professional photographer, but the results speak for themselves--we are absolutely thrilled. We can't wait for warmer weather so we can fully enjoy our stunning new space. The craftsmanship is simply incredible. These guys are true artists. Every time we look at the work Whitmer Decks completed, we're blown away all over again. Thank you to Cliff, Sam, Mike, Pavlo, Wade, Keen--and Spark Roofing as well. You are all amazing, and we will not hesitate to give our highest recommendation to anyone who asks. I want to mention that their estimate/upgrade process was incredibly easy and actually fun to work with! Each upgrade came with about 5-10 photos that were VERY helpful in envisioning what the final product would actually look like! With gratitude, Shawn Purcell

Complete waste of my time. To set up the appointment for a quote, I shared I wanted to replace my…read morewood decks with composite and screen in the lower deck. It was very clear. Spent an hour at my house discussing and taking measurements. Waited nearly two weeks for the quote and get a call they don't "replace" and confirmed they said they only do new construction per the "manager". Missed HOA deadline for May due to waiting on this final quote to make my decision to submit the application. Frustrating. They clearly didn't want the job or update your website to remove "deck replacement".

I spent more than 3 hours with the PWI representative. He came up with an estimate and I mentioned…read morea competing one. He instantly produced one in that range, citing a 30 day window as the reason for the discount. It seemed to me that his spreadsheet generated the new estimate to match the information I provided from the other company. Then he offered a substantial discount if I allowed PWI to take before and after photos, put a sign on my lawn, or post a review on social media. It seemed too good to be true, so I asked three times if I incurred any legal obligations or commitments by signing; he replied "no"each time. After signing, he informed me this agreement required a significant and immediate deposit. This deposit is refundable only by initiating Virginia's three day cancellation rule, which seems onerous, and obviously, includes considerable time pressure. I ripped up the agreement.

Here is a review I also left on google -…read more I reached out for a quote on a deck restoration/re-decking project based on the company's strong reviews on both the Trex website and Google. The representative was on time, personable, and clearly knowledgeable. However, after spending over two and a half hours reviewing their presentation and proposal, the quoted price came in at 70% higher than the average of four other estimates we had already received -- all from companies also vetted through Trex and with solid reputations. Even with the time-sensitive incentives (13% off for signing on the spot, plus another 7% off if they could use our project for before/after marketing), their price was still 45% higher than the others. During the presentation, the rep proudly mentioned that 93% of their customers sign immediately after the appointment. I can only assume those folks didn't get multiple quotes. To be clear, I believe Prince William Home Improvement is a solid company and would likely do a great job. I just can't justify paying 45-70% more for a project when other equally reputable companies are offering comparable quality for significantly less.
