Officially my favorite place to stay in Ocean Shores, hands down! I booked Grey Gull because it was what was available on short notice. From the photos it looked outdated, but... Everything in Ocean Shores is. The price was right for a huge condo, so we went for it. The condo featured a big kitchen that I was able to cook a full dinner in, a large living room with a television, and a huge wrap around deck with views of the water. We also had a bathroom with a full tub and a bedroom with two queen beds. The hotel also has a hot tub and pool. The pool isn't huge but the kids had a great time. They have a movie library where you can check out movies for your room which was appreciated since we couldn't figure out the cable whatsoever. Minor complaints: the cable as mentioned, the beds weren't super comfy, and the kitchen equipment was not in the best condition. That said, we made it all work. We'll definitely return! read more

Clean place, but the room was honestly really disappointing. It was extremely cramped, like they tried cramming way too much furniture into way too small of an area. For example, there was about 10 inches of space between the coffee table and the TV stand... plus just a generally bad layout and dated feel. That being said I was staying here as part of a large group and everyone else's room, including the one directly next to mine, seemed great. Modern, spacious, warm vibe, lots of open floor space to hang out... guess I just drew the short straw. In summation you'll probably have a good time here but just be aware that you're rolling the dice. They have great rooms and extremely disappointing rooms, all for the same price. read more

November 2024: This is a vintage hotel in Ocean Shores that has an outdoor pool, outdoor hot tub, elevator, large parking lot, coin laundry, clam cleaning station and pet area. These are apartment-style hotel rooms with kitchens and fireplaces. Unit doors open to an outdoor corridor and the building has two wings that are 3 floors high. The 3rd floor has ocean views. I stayed here back in the 1980s. It was an upscale hotel back then. Now, in 2024, you can still see remnants of the upscale level. The units are large with lots of amenities. However, due to time, the units now look a bit dated. The furnishings are more functional than fashionable. These individually-owned units are all decorated differently and there are some pet-friendly units. The units are clean, safe, quiet and in a good location. The staff are friendly and helpful. The cleaning staff does a great job. Just a suggestion- the pet-friendly rooms would feel cleaner if they had hard floors. read more

An eleventh-hour booking had us in Ocean Shores at the Grey Gull for the long Jul 4th weekend. It was great. All the staff are down to earth and amazing. Very liberal (not alluding to politics), and let revelers act like revelers. In that regard, nobody was out of control. It is also very family friendly, so during high season times expect the pool and spa to be filled with teenagers. Happy people are never a bother to our family. Our condo was great. Mattress in the bedroom was very comfy, and my wife even got the brand name from the staff. Even the Murphy Bed in the living area was comfortable. Nice little balcony area, where we watched the fireworks on the beach, and if you've never been to OS on the 4th, you may want to consider it a bucket list item. Basically, it's like 'the grand finale' for hours and hours without end. Leave fido at home. We'd love to come back here, but realize we got reeeeeal lucky because of a late cancellation... Note: City tap water is noticeably very, very chlorinated. Best to invest in a 24-pack of drinking water to keep in the fridge. Especially if you brew your own coffee... read more

Wow, wow, wow!! We stayed in room 311 and were super impressed. A beautiful view and happy, eclectic decor which featured local artists. The cupboards were packed with every pot and pan you could possibly need, there was a cozy fireplace, the bed was very comfortable, and there was a guest book in the room so you could read about the adventures and advice from past guests. We were sad that we had only booked 2 nights, as this would've been an amazing place for a longer stay. We found an Irish pub in town that had yummy food. Just be advised that most restaurants close around 8pm, so plan accordingly. The only drawback to the hotel was that the path from the hotel to the beach was unpassable due to recent rains, so we had to drive a bit to find access, but that's no fault of the hotel. We had an issue with the wifi, but maintenance was quick to figure out the problem and get us up and running again. My favorite part was the glow in the dark stars on the ceiling of the bedroom, which was totally unexpected and made me smile as I drifted off to sleep. Damon Point was not too far away and we spent a delightful day hunting for agates on the beach. I believe that the decor in the rooms is different in each one (timeshares?), so ask for room 311 if you want what we experienced. read more

We made a reservation 8 days ago only to get a phone call the day before our 7 day trip down highway 101. Grey Gull calling to tell us of the impending construction noise close to our room proximity. We could cancel or reschedule with no charge. So who is in charge of guest services, there is lack of considerations and compensation. This is just plain bad business, won't be returning. read more

Room 311 was beautifully decorated, everything worked, comfy beds, it was clean, it was quiet (couldn't hear noises from other water running or people, etc), well stocked kitchen of everything (the kitchen even had a popcorn popper and crockpot), beautiful view from the deck as well as inside from the wall of windows. I loved the open beams, the ceiling to floor gas fireplace, the wall of windows. My husband said the checking in and out was great. The property was clean. The only thing I could say negative is the pool decking needs updating. When we go to Ocean Shores again I want to stay at this room again, we found our second home. read more

This place has nice views. However, we had an issue with the door lock which was difficult to close. The carpet also smelled and the low battery for one of the detectors also happened to wake us up at 3:00am unfortunately. The bed was also quite hard and uncomfortable. How I was hoodwinked by untrue reviews to pay over $600 for 2 nights I do not know- Avoid unless you like overpriced greasy spoons, dated taverns, 1/4 mile walk to beach and decaying property amidst others that look the same.... I can give this hotel a 1 1/2 -2 rating because the staff is very kind. The cleanliness of the room we stayed in is very sub-par Coffee splatters on the dish drainer, stains on the carpets, and the electrical switches are in conviene and hard to find. This was my first and for sure not the last time I will stay at The Grey Gull! This hotel is perfectly located near everything you wanna see and do in town. There's also a neat little pathway you can take to get to the shore. Our stay was awesome! No loud neighbors, the rooms were clean, and just about everything you needed was provided. There's a bedroom, a bathroom, and in the living room is a murphy pull out bed. In addition, there's an amazing fire gas fire place. There's a dining table, a kitchenette with silverware, dishes, cups, coffee, a T.V with not so basic channels, and comfy couches. There's a pool and hot tub for relaxation, and the staff is super friendly and helpful. House keeping did a great job as well! We felt very relaxed and comfortable with our stay here. This three story ocean side resort is a great value for your money. It has one bedroom apartment style rooms with decks facing the ocean. An outdoor pool and hot tub are perfect if the weather is warm enough to hop in. Each room comes with a fully stocked kitchen which allows you to bring and make your own food. There are also dish washers which make cleaning up much easier. There are tv's in both the bedroom and the living room. Each of these rooms is owned by an individual and then rented out by the Grey Gull. That means that each room is decorated by the owner so each is unique; some decor is better than others. This also means that some of the rooms allow pets for an additional fee. Our family has stayed here several times and we have enjoyed it each time. The walk to the beach is about an 8-10 minute one. If you are on the second or third floor you have a nice view of the ocean, especially on the third floor. While the outside of the hotel is nothing special the convenience of the beach, the rooms, and the closeness to downtown Ocean Shores make for a really great value. The kicker is how nice the staff is. They all say hello when they see you and are polite and kind. Everyone seems genuinely happy to work there which I appreciate. I would totally recommend this to families wanting to get away to the ocean but don't want to pay for one of the fancier house rentals in Ocean Shores or Seabrook. We looked at renting a house in Seabrook for two nights and the total cost was going to be $1300 for Seabrook. We stayed at the Grey Gull for under $460 and had a blast. read more

We went here to Grey Gull Resort on Vacation at Ocean Shores the room was nice and clean and the staff was very professional and well dressed for their dress code and the Resort is pet friendly. The pet friendly rooms are only on the 2nd & 3rd Floors the only thing I wish they had was a 2 Queen sized beds one in the living room and the bedroom I didn't find their pullout sofa all that comfortable because of the metal bar that goes across under the mattress of the sofa I ended up sleeping uncomfortably on the floor during my remainder of the visit which I didn't sleep well during my stay. The only thing I liked was that the Grey Gull hotel was close to shopping and that was it. The room we stayed in was 210 I wouldn't recommend this place unless they have a more comfortable beds. I also wish they didn't allow noisy kids to stay in their resort hotel next to other renters there that wants to sleep in and also to relax there's nothing resort about this place it's an over priced hotel that is old and mediocre and is close to the beach that's it nothing more and nothing less plus we heard kids screaming and crying their little stupid heads off and the parents didn't do anything to shut them up. The mattress was firm and the pillows and blankets we're not comfortable it felt like I was sleeping in a passenger jet with cheap linen and the staff didn't even accommodate us with additional towels or toiletry for our room during the 3 nights we spent there plus they don't even have any small essential store in the main lobby like you get in a decent hotel resort in Vegas or at a Disney Resort that are more high rated than this hotel in Ocean Shore's so since I'm being a little generous I'll give this place 2 stars not more. The other thing was that I had to change out the bedding in my hotel room and replace it with clean bedding because the housekeeping wouldn't enter into the room to do it for us. read more

We stayed here last minute on Valentine's day weekend! We didnt except much to be honest, but really enjoyed the shortened stay! We had planned to stay the whole weekend but had to cut it short due to a massive ice storm which caused power outages in the area. Loved the unit and had everything we needed to cook there in our unit, and the staff were amazing and super sweet! Considering were we drove to next, we should have stayed there! But with the winter snow storm and the ice storm...we needed heat! That was the only reason why we left. read more

My 80 year old mother and I stayed for 4 nights in March. Condo 311. You need to be on 3rd floor to see the ocean. The unit had a balcony, kitchen, separate bedroom with a king and nice Murphy bed in living room (that is not too bad!). Elevator and path to the beach. Although the property is dated, many properties in OS are so if you expect that, you're good. Everything worked and staff was super friendly. We will come again. read more

I love the nostalgia of this beach resort. We used to stay here when I was a kid, and it has not changed a bit. Although the units are extremely dated, that really is just part of the experience. I felt that the units were clean and "well kept", although older. My issue with The Grey Gull is unfortunately the staff. When we checked in our room was not only not ready, but we also never received a phone call (as promised) telling us when it was ready. We tried to call the front desk multiple times to ask if our room was ready (6pm on a 4pm check in time), and each time no one answered. Both times we interacted with the front desk personnel (at check in and also once when I went down to ask for some towels), the staff seemed annoyed with us. We definitely will not be returning based on their lack of customer service. read more

The Grey Gull is a great place to stay. It's a unique setup, each of the rooms are actually a condo that is rented out when the owner is not staying there. This means that it's a fully functional living unit, with a bedroom, bathroom, living room, and full kitchen. There are a ton of amenities, including a heated pool (which was actually warmer than the air outside of it when I used it), a hot-tub, a sauna, coin-op washer/dryer, and even a couple arcade machines (which were a surprising find!). They provide coffee/tea in the lobby area, there's vending machines, and even a computer with internet access (which I used for some last minute recipe searching). The staff is friendly, and easy to work with. We brought our dog and was worried that she would either scare them or run out of the room when housekeeping came. They worked with us and everyone turned out happy. It's right on the beach, and at night you can hear the frogs, crickets, and waves. Such a relaxing getaway from the hustle and bustle of the city. I'm definitely coming back! read more

The view from the third floor was incredible, however, the room was still dirty when we arrived, with several things not functioning. When we informed the front desk, they simply told us they'd tell the staff to, "do a better job next time." We absolutely love it here. Years ago, when our daughter was little we stayed across the street at the Gitche Gumee, and dream of the day we could stay there. We've come here for years, but have missed the last few. That's what grandkids do to your lives. We have been here at different times of the year, so have experienced all weather. Nothing like coming back to the comfort and coziness of this place after a couple of hours on the beach. The staff could not be friendlier. We are here Mother's Day weekend, looks like our last visit. I will retire in less than 8 months and we will move to Georgia, to be near those grandkids I mentioned. Check in went smoothly front desk attendant was nice and made sure we knew the rules. We got 2 rooms one on the bottom floor (right by the pool) and one on the second floor (pet friendly). This is definitely not a new building however it appears they have been keeping it maintained. The groundskeeper was mowing and we had to walk by, we were going to just walk around him but he shut it off so we did not have to and he had a smile!! They have laundry on site, ice machine and vending machines (although my soda was expired). The rooms are actual keys which i love and the wifi password is right on the key pouch they give you so it is not missed, smart. There is a great little BBQ area outside. The pool was a little green and scummy around the edges. Second floor 210 = had a little sliver view of the ocean (it is far away otherwise would have been full view), one bedroon with a pullout sleeper sofa, fully stocked kitcken and bathroom was stocked with supplies (the little soap said the grey gull, so cute). As with most hotels they only put enough bathroom supplies for one person however a quick trip to the front desk and we had all we needed without issue. We couldn't find our cookie sheet and they had one brought to the room very quickly. Really the only issue has been the tv in the bedroom loosing signal every few minutes. And the pullout sofa bed was oh so horrible to sleep on. The bed in the room was firm but comfortable. We got a little pack of supplies in the room for our 4 legged guest as well! Ground floor by the pool 107 = the gate slamming shut is very loud in this room and it sounds like you are in the pool area if you have windows open. The pool does close at 10 so not an issue after that time. The gas pipe in this room is a prominent not hidden at all. One of the chairs had an issue and almost got dumped through the glass window it sits by when sat in. We would come back. read more

I seriously LOVE this place! We have been coming to the Grey Gull since I was a little girl. It is not like a regular hotel. It feels more like a condo but the price of a hotel. I always get a good rate when I go there. Although, weekends, it fills up fast in the summer, so book in plenty of time. They have an outdoor pool and hottub. It sound weird, but I swear it is amazing. Having the rain fall on you while you are soaking in the hot tub is so amazing. The gals and guy that work the front counter are wonderful. They are pleasant and very helpful. When we need a night away, we always book the efficiency room. It is so cozy. When we bring the kids, I recommend the double bed rooms on the ends. Some of the rooms I have stayed in definity need to be updated. Like, the tube tv's and VCRs. But I think that is my only recommendation. Oh, and they need better Wifi. I just can't say enough great things about this place. I WILL NOT stay anywhere else in OCean Shores. This truly is my home-away-from-home. read more

This place has not been kept up. It is old and tired. If you like smokers, you are at the right place. People can smoke all over the grounds including the balconies of the rooms. The smoke blows right into the next deck and room. The cleaning and maintanance staff are really friendly which is the only good thing about the place now. After staying there for years, we will not be back. Not only the smoking, but the lack of maintaining the building is really showing. The pool appears dirty as well. They do not make up the rooms until late afternoon due to getting the vacant rooms done first. It is overpriced for what you get. The supplies in the rooms are very limited as well. The only thing worse than finding dried blood spots on the inside of your "clean" sheets is having your concerns be completely disregarded by the staff in defense of their employees. I understand defending your employees but compromising your customers integrity in doing so shows a severe lack of compassion. I didn't expect to be refunded or compensated, but at the very least humor me and dont indirectly call me a liar. The 3 minute conversation with the front desk, which consisted entirely of them telling me there is no way this was possible, left a worse impression than the 3 hours we spent laying in the bed before noticing someone else's bodily fluids. read more

We would honestly give this quaint condo community 5 stars save for one really pervasive negative. But first the good. The front desk was super friendly and very helpful. Great recommendations for local food and beaches. As was everyone we talked to at local establishments. The individually owned condos give it the feel of staying at your families place at the beach rather than a corporate chain or hotel. The bad. And honestly it was so bad it went beyond just annoying. We were literally laughing at the end of our stay because we were making bets on whether it would or even could get worse. And it never disappointed in becoming so. The noise. My lawdy the noise. Incredible. Even though we were one of only 3-4 occupied units each night of our stay we were placed on the second floor under another occupied unit. Now keep in mind the noise issue is so bad management would have to be aware of it. Plus it's the only negative listed consistently in reviews. Thru out our stay every tiny move by the guest above us gave the feel of living under a bowling alley. And they must have been practicing for a salsa dancing competition up there. Until about 11 every night and starting at 8 every morning. When...we are not kidding here...we could hear the alarm go off on their cell phone. We had to max the volume on the Tv to hear the dialog on the movie we got to enjoy next to the fire on the rainy evening. It's like this place is made of cardboard. Then at 9 every morning the housekeeping staff gets rolling. As the bedrooms are abutting the walkway A La Motel 6 style it puts you in close proximity. When they roll the carts by you get the effect of a 747 taking off and the bed shakes like you just dropped two quarters into the Magic Fingers box. Our apologies to travelers under 50. We will wait while you Google. This is the only place where we fault the staff. You've got about 3% capacity. You couldn't let us sleep until 10? What's the point of a generous 12 o'clock check out otherwise. And please look into some inflated rubber wheeled carts. We live on a houseboat and that is the first rule of being a good neighbor. Don't use hard wheeled carts up and down the boardwalk outside your neighbors bedroom. So. If you plan to spend a very minimal amount of actual time in the room you pay for and be up before 9 every morning this place has got it all. Great staff, beautiful location and comfortable homey feel. But the noise is going to send us to check out some other options for our next stay on the Cranberry Coast. read more

This is out second trip here. The hotel is on the ocean side of the strip. It is a one bedroom apartment with a stocked kitchen. The king bed is comfortable. The bedrooms are located next to the walkway and yet it is very quiet. It has a gas fireplace that we used last winter. We cooked our breakfasts here and had to go down to the desk for salt and pepper. I wish I had brought plastic wrap. They do supply paper towel and clean kitchen cloths. They have a heated pool that was open last winter. We could see the steam rolling off it. Black tail deer visit the yard. The 10 minute walk down the path is a trip! During the winter it was flooded in places. We passed a doe and a young buck on the way. This place is pet friendly with plenty of places to walk the dog. We will return. The shower had strong pressure with plenty of hot water. read more

Was in room 312. Awesome view of the ocean. Little balcony perfect for two people. Downfalls unfortunately were the mattress was extremely poor condition very Lumpy. There were only three pans in the place a small skillet,a medium Skillet, and a saucepan. Nun had lids. Everything in the refrigerator froze. It was on the lowest setting. When we checked out we found out they have extra pans and extra dishes in storage. Never bothered to mention it to us until we complained about not having any. Two burner stove both burners work. No oven but there was a microwave. This room also had a very nice fireplace that was set on a timer so you could enjoy it. For those of you who need it, There is an elevator. read more

This gem amidst the sad, dying town that is Ocean Shoes makes you remember why you wanted to vacation there in the first place. Each individual apartment (and the rooms are more like apartments than typical hotel rooms) is different, because the hotel is essentially a collection of privately owned condos that are rented out. I'd imagine that the quality of the room then depends on what room you book, but our room was amazing. It had the distinctive, unique quality that you find in rental homes, but rarely hotels. We had more than enough space, a fireplace, an amazing view with a balcony, and a full kitchen that was stocked to the hilt. We planned on stormy weather, and that would have made the incredible lodgings (and cheerful, helpful staff as well as great heated pool and hot tub) a vacation-saver. Instead we were treated to great weather, which highlighted the Gull's proximity to the ocean, and its great views. The hotel had a vibe that would make it great for romantic couples as well as families. Some of the spacious rooms are also pet friendly. I heartily recommend the Grey Gull! read more

We had a wonderful stay here for our short but sweet "babymoon" in 308. The photos on the website don't do the rooms any justice! We stayed on the 3rd floor and had a beautiful ocean view. The hotel was quiet and the staff was friendly. We had everything we needed in our room to cook, and the fireplace was also a really nice touch when coming back from the freezing cold ocean! We will definitely be back, and next time we will bring the doggies (and new baby!). My only complaints were that the heated pool was not very heated and looked a little dirty, and the shower couldn't keep hot for more than a minute at a time, which was really uncomfortable and frustrating. read more
