I came in with battles hardened teeth...there was a point in time in my life first in high school being a wrestler and my later years practicing Brazilian Ju-Jitsu. Let's just say taking knees and forearms to my jaw didn't really help my teeth. Those collision caused my silver fillings to crack and break and added some chips too. So when I finally had to face the music and get my teeth right I was recommended this dentist office by a friend and my journey to a better smile began! I am so blessed by Dr. Greg Vigoren for truly caring about dental care! He is extraordinary and so is His crew! I had a root canal done was rough but I am no longer suffering my tooth pain is gone and I am happily eating again! I wish I didn't have to write this, but I think it's important to tell the reality of what ended up being a terrible experience. I was referred to this dentist by a former coworker. I'd told my coworker that I had some dental anxiety after a dentist I loved missed a cavity that ended up a root canal and a few other bad experiences. She told me that Dr. Vigoren was the one I should go to. I secured PPO dental insurance just so I could go to Vigoren and confirmed that his office would take my insurance over the phone. Turns out they were out of network and most of my visit uncovered. I walked into my first appointment feeling nervous, as I'm a wimp with dental anything ... but I was still optimistic. The dentist came in quite quickly and, within a few moments of meeting him, informed me that I have sleep apnea. Now, at this point he had done absolutely NO inspection of my mouth and he is not a doctor. I was shocked. I sleep great and feel energized. I told him this, but he insisted that he could tell by the grooves on my tongue. He told me that teeth grinding has been disproved to be stress and that TMJ ties into your brain stem and your body trying to keep you alive during apnea episodes. He ordered that I get what I thought was an X-Ray covered by my insurance. However, when my bill came I found out that a cat scan is NOT an X-Ray or covered at all. I believe it was several hundred dollars just for that (but I'll check my bill). After hearing that the dentist thought I had sleep apnea, I felt really worried. My husband was in the waiting room and I began texting him. The dentist reviewed my scan and admitted that he was surprised, as I appeared to have plenty of room and not have apnea. I felt so trapped at this point and wanted to leave, but really needed my teeth cleaned. The dentist let my husband come back at which point he talked (very rudely) to my husband and I about how I have some extra fat on my face and chin. I'm a women of 40 and normal, I certainly don't need to be discussed weight-wise. I found his comments so impolite and uncalled for and, frankly, not welcoming. He showed us large photos of my teeth and lectured us about his superior dentistry. He took us in his office to show us a PowerPoint about dentistry. He talked and talked. It felt like a used car sales and we were there several hours. By the time we left his office the hygienist didn't have time to clean my teeth and they told me I may have to come back. I told them I'd made sure my appointment would have a teeth cleaning too, in advance. Vigoren offered to do it personally and (frankly) bragged it would be the best cleaning I'd ever had. It wasn't. He didn't take the time a hygienist would and my teeth still felt gritty. Now, on one hand, I am sure he's a great dad or grandpa. He even told us he'd diagnosed his son (maybe son-in-law) who now uses a CPAP machine, despite being resistant at first. However, nice person aside, he didn't respect that you can't just diagnose people on a dime without medical testing. It did NOT make me trust dentists more to wrongly diagnose me with sleep apnea. It was also so disappointing. I thought he was the dentist I'd been waiting for, but I want someone who respects my boundaries when I'm nervous ... like not talking about my face fat to my husband! I hope they see this and consider that people who say they are nervous about dentistry should be treated better. I now have a bill after I thought the visit would be covered. Sigh. Flustered with my health situation I knew I had to have something going on w/my teeth. Three dentist consults later I found Dr. Vigeron. You first meet Rita who scheduled and is very welcoming. Diana who took my X-rays was gentle and they did not hurt. Meeting Dr. Vigoren is a wealth of information. Not on just your teeth but overall health. Things he said aligned with a diagnosis from my doctor. I would say he is more of an integrative/functional dentist. He goes beyond your typical dentist visit. He wants to know more about you to get to the root cause of underlying health issues. I knew I had infections as I could not chew on my right side of my mouth. I finally found someone that could help. The photos images he showed me I was amazed at - partly bc the prior dentists said I'm fine when there's obvious rot. My advice, schedule an appointment. Go with your gut instinct when you know something isn't right. With Dr. Vigoren I don't know how you could go wrong. He's kind, the staff are all happy and that says a lot about him and his practice. His dentistry is the best you'll find, I've had other dentists remark about my dental work and especially the margins--if you know about dentistry, you know about margins. Dr. Vigoren is passionate about what he does and it shows. He takes super-magnified photos of what is going on and shows you in detail and enthusiastically explains each option. I had been grinding my teeth during sleep (umm...stress?:) and he made a night guard for me that I've had for several years -- I can't sleep without it! Because of the grinding, I had actually cracked some of the enamel along the sides of my teeth. Dr. Vigoren bonded these areas to protect them from potential decay and so that my teeth look perfect. Most of us will agree that no one likes going to the dentist. Sadly, Dr. Vigoren makes the visit worse. His lectures of his superiority as a dentist without regard for your boredom will lengthen your visit. And the disrespectful comments Dr. Vigoren makes to his assistant, Daniel and staff is inexcusable and contributes significantly to your level of discomfort. I overheard him yelling at a patient that was the last straw. I found a different dentist and discovered through a significant amount of research that he is very expensive - about 25-30 % over what most dentists in the area charge. I told Dr. Vigoren that the only way to best describe him was that he was the "Carl Sagan of Dentistry." I have had some extensive dental work performed in his chair, from wisdom tooth extractions to root canals, crowns and minor cavities. Every step of the way, no matter what the reason for my visit, I have always felt like I experienced incomparable first class care in his office. He carefully explains everything to you so you understand completely what his plan of action is to correct any dental issue you may have. Further, he will take high resolution shots of the procedure (before, during and after) so that he can show you exactly what he has done and where you may be lacking in your own oral care. He has a sincere desire for his patients to have the knowledge necessary to make major procedures the exception. His is the most modern, professional, friendly and competent dentist practice I have ever known and although I have moved away from the area, I continue to fly from 2 time zones away whenever I need to see him. His staff, whether it be his receptionist, hygienist, or his dental assistant are all very welcoming, cheerful, well-educated and make you feel relaxed, comfortable, accommodated...perhaps even spoiled. :) Where do I even begin? I had an emergency visit scheduled today with Dr. Vigoren because of an infected, old, poorly done root canal that was causing me health problems. Being brand new to the area, I had a referral to see him by a good friend who has called Dr. Vigoren his dentist for years now with nothing but absolutely amazing things to say about him, the staff, and the office. So this morning when they had a last minute opening for me today, I took it! Cheryl at the front desk was such a joy to speak with and truly made my welcome to the office so warm. She made an experience that usually can be scary very calm and relaxing. My experience in the office today was truly spectacular and we all know thats not normal for dentist visits involving root canal work. All the hygienists were extremely sweet and gentle. They really took time to make me feel as comfortable as possible. Also the office was extremely clean, modern, and fresh. When Dr. Vigoren came into the room he carried himself with such warm hearted professionalism. I explained to him I was nervous due to previous, horrifying experiences. All I can say is he is one in a million! The amount of time he took to sit and talk to me about my concerns, my health, and just life in general was a breath of fresh air. He is truly a caring man and wants nothing but the best for his patients. I had absolutely ZERO pain! The procedure was an absolute breeze. I used to love Dr Vigoren but over the last 2 or 3 years he has become a greedy person and seems to care more about doing procedures that are unnecessary and selling apnea devices. My husband who was a patient of his for 30 years has already switched dentist. Today my daughter went for a routine cleaning and he terrorized her by telling her that if she didn't fill in the pits in her molars before she had cavities, she would wound up with horrible things like root canals etc. If Dr Vigoren really cared about his patients, he would give them his professional opinions and stop bullying them when they come in his office and decide not do it. The procedure that Dr Vigoren wants my daughter to do costs about $1300 per quadrant and the insurance only reimburses about $300. My daughter did the two lower quadrants and complained that they were very painful. By the way my husband said that when he first saw him many years ago, Dr Vigoren had said to him that doing this procedure had weakened his teeth. So which is it? My daughter's teeth look great yet he had to bully her and terrorize her today to the point that she was in tears. I do not trust him any more and our entire family is moving on to a nicer more gentle dentist who has also pride in perfection and is trust worthy. I have been seeing Dr. Vigoren for approximately 6 months now. The first time I came in was because I needed a wisdom tooth extracted. Like most people, I am terrified of the dentist! I already had one wisdom tooth taken out years ago by another dentist in Irvine and it definitely left me scarred. I just remember a lot of yanking and discomfort (even though I had anesthesia) and then a week of a swollen cheek. I had expected the same thing going into Dr. Vigoren's office and even planned the appt after my birthday so that I wouldn't have that swollen cheek during my celebration. When I first arrived he took the time to explain to me how I won't feel any pain and that I won't have a "swollen cheek" for the next few days and he explained why that had occurred at my previous dentist. Honestly, I didn't believe him but I knew I needed this tooth out because it was causing me so much pain. I let him do his thing and to my surprise, he was right. It did not hurt one bit and for the next few days my cheek was not one bit swollen, I was able to go back to work that day and my coworkers couldn't believe it either. I decided to follow up with getting the rest of my wisdom teeth taken out because of how easy it was. I do have to mention Dr. Vigoren is really great at making sure you feel comfortable and having the most relaxed appt. He had informed me before I went in to get good sleep the night before my appt and to make sure I had a good protein-filled breakfast. He explained how this would calm my nerves and the anesthesia wouldn't ware off as fast. I followed his instructions and it really did help. THE PART YOU SHOULD KNOW is that when I did return to get the rest of my wisdom teeth taken out, Dr. Vigoren found several problems with my previous root canals. The X-rays visibly showed the root canals were broken due to poor dentistry (from my previous dentist) and he was able to show me how it was causing an infection. He immediately took them out and showed me the actual root canal that had been in my mouth for the past few years. It was disgusting. I am SOOO happy that I have finally found a dentist who genuinely cares about his patients and takes the time to sit and talk with you to explain to you everything. This is definitely the first time in my life that I do not dread going to the dentist or try and find reasons to cancel my appts! I have been telling just about everyone my experience with his dentistry and I strongly urge you to see this dentist! He's also very chatty, which I enjoy :) read more

It's so important having a dentist you can trust, and I definitely trust Dr. Vigoren. I know his work will last because it has! He's also given me the knowledge to be confident in his work. He likes to explain how getting rid of all the rot and making very good seals are so important. Then after a procedure, he'll show you these magnified pics taken during the process, so you can actually see the real work he's done, every spec of yucky stuff gotten rid of and repair stuff put in. It's quite amazing! Fortunately, they also have a great hygienist Robin. She is gentle, effective and always makes sure she's not causing undue discomfort. The office is very clean and professional. I'd definitely recommend going here =) p.s.: Kinda silly, but I really love their dentist chairs!!! I remember when they first got them, and I was all trying to ask what they were made of. Dr. Vigoren is the best dentist I've ever been to - because he's saved me thousands of dollars.. I went to another dentist who said I definitely needed a root canal. He sent me to a root canal specialist who said, yep, I definitely needed a root canal. It was going to cost me several thousands of dollars so I searched for another opinion and found Dr. Vigoren. He said 90% of patients who come to him from other doctors who "need" a root canal really don't. He said I didn't need one either. Instead I got just a filling from him using his special techniques. I have to begin with the disclosure that Dr. Greg Vigoren is a close friend that I have known socially for years but until recently, he was not my dentist. I came to Dr. Vigoren because my dentist had been very critical of the fact that I had been grinding my teeth down in my sleep and would not wear the night guard he had made for me. The thing made my teeth hurt and I couldn't sleep with it. I was facing a situation where I believed every one of my teeth were going to need what effectively would have been replacement with artificial teeth. I wasn't convinced that the proposed course of action was the best option. I came to Dr Vigoren for a second opinion on the pain and hot/cold sensitivity I was getting on most of my teeth and wanted to see what he would say. He started with what many people here comment on... he repaired and/or replaced several crowns, overlays, and on-lays, many of which were installed over improperly prepped surfaces that still had significant decay UNDER previous dental repair! To be fair, the really bad dentistry was done when I lived out of the area years ago, not my dentist here in OC. Greg cleaned everything up and repaired all the damage then set about building up and bonding every tooth in my mouth to repair all the damage I've done grinding my teeth at night. My teeth are now completely restored to their original size and my smile looks great! all the pain, the hot and cold sensitivity is gone, Best of all, I still have all my original teeth, Greg is not cheap but the level of care and the quality of the work is worth it. The office is very clean and modern, the staff is wonderful and everyone does their very best to ensure a minimum of pain and anxiety. Thank you Greg, I would recommend you to anyone! read more

My teeth have been under attack since 2006 when an undiagnosed(to this day) illness took over my life. All the different medications along with night grinding and grinding during pain episodes, my teeth have taken a brutal onslaught. My original dentist wanted to replace every tooth in my mouth, while I'm still dealing with an unknown debilitating illness. I was dealing with enough pain already and couldn't have handled that. My pain doctor at the time suggested talking to Dr. Vigoren and I'M SO GLAD HE DID! Not only did Dr. Vigoren save ALL of my teeth, he did it virtually painlessly and explained everything he was going to do before he did it. In other words, he made sure that I understood exactly what was going on and happening in my mouth. the office is spotless and the chairs quite soft and comfortable. Dr. Vigoren's patients go years and sometimes decades between visits because of his work (assuming one is doing their part in the daily care of their teeth); I have spoken to 2 people myself while in his office who hadn't seen him since before 2002! I've been seeing him since 2013 and I feel blessed. He has/is making my teeth as acid/medication proof as is possible and it's showing. The reason I have been under his care for such time is due to my illness which limits my ability to get to him and stay still enough for him to do his work safely. Dr. V and Cheryl have been more than accommodating when it came to my health interfering with scheduled appointments. Outside of my issues, my teeth have been saved with virtually no pain or hassle whatsoever thanks to Dr. Vigoren. If you are up in the air on your dentist, DON'T HESITATE; GO visit Dr. Vigoren. I mean really, who does't only wan't to have to go to the dentist only once or twice per decade(or less)? read more

Dr Vigoren is by far the best dentist I have ever gone to. I have had braces and dental implants and a lot of mouth trauma so I require many different types of dental treatments. I had a appointment with dr. vigoren a few weeks ago and I liked him. the office was pretty and clean. his office receptionist was not nice and rude when i asked her a few basic questions. she is not a people person and i noticed how she was with others that came in. he has a male assistant in the back that seemed confused and lost with things. i will go back because dr, vigoren was nice even if my appointment ran a hour late. read more

I first started going to see Dr V. in 1984 and can state unequivocally, he is by far the best dentist I have ever gone to....I am 60 years old and have significant dental issues that have reached critical mass in recent years...due to insurance (or lack thereof) I have occasionally had to go to other dentists over the years, and to experience their level of care has only reinforced my belief that his care is truly special and unique....to the point that 3 years ago I had to go to a different dentist for a crown, and after his roughshod work was complete, he said that a number of my teeth were beyond repair and would need to be pulled.... subsequently the following year, I was able to return to Dr. V and as of this writing, he superior abilities have allowed me to keep ALL of my teeth, with none removed....additionally, due to my lack of dollars, there have been times in the past when he has put on temporary crowns that have now lasted beyond what other dentists permanent crowns have....wow in closing, I would question Sabine R's comments about a more "gentle" dentist and one with "pride in perfection"...those descriptions personify Dr V and his staff...her verbiage (greedy, terrorized, bully - seriously..??) seem inappropriate and disconnected from what I have experienced....I believe one visit will justify all that I have said...thank you Dr. Vigoren, for taking such good care of me for 32 years...rick read more

His knowledge, personality and presence makes every visit to his immaculate office worth my valuable time. Dr. Vigoren is a very fascinating person who I heard about through a dear friend years ago. Not only has he fixed years of dishonest, functionally non-existent dental work from cosmetic dentists, he has also advised me on many health related decisions. Dr. Vigoren's philosophy is rooted in the simply belief that you shouldn't build a masterpiece on top of a rotting foundation. What I have taken from my experience with other dentists is that a majority of the time, what looks great when you look in the mirror, or when your friends compliment you is not a reflection of good dental work. Rot is rot, even if you doll it up with a beautiful exterior, the structure will fail, as it did to me.  Dr. Vigoren uses high-powered magnification and an aggressive approach in cleansing the foundation of the tooth before building any cosmetic aspect to his work. This is certainly costlier, it takes longer, but ultimately has given been an exceptional investment; what had become typical in my life, I would experience consistent tooth ache, my gums would often be sensitive and would bleed easily, I would often get sick (including the guaranteed 2 weeks per year where I would be sidelined because of severe upper respiratory infection). I no longer experience these things I had just come to expect, and I had no idea that my dental health was so tied to sickness. Dr. Vigoren is quirky guy, but he's a hell of a dentist. Recommend him to anyone. read more
