First time playing this course with my son - he's new to golf. Sunday Oct 22. The course was good and it was a beautiful day. But the way the course manages the traffic is not good. The course doesn't use martials. No one is out there managing the traffic. We are in a cart, 4 veteran, large-framed guys behind us with hand carts. They had a 1:08, We had a 1:10. They were late getting to the front nine so the starter sent us out first. They were ticked by that I guess and pushed us the whole time - they didn't putt at all. One of them had a self-driving bag cart that followed him independently. Not sure if that is a luxury item or is needed for incontinence. I'm sure these guys are regulars and if you golf here much you've probably seen them. We pushed the folks in front of us the whole time. Even without the martial, it seemed the pace went well. We only had to wait a couple times. Young kid from the pro shop met us at the back end of hole 9 derisively told us to go to the pro shop. Went in and they told us the guys behind us were complaining about the pace, and wanted us to re-do the front 9. I pushed back, they comped us so I agreed. With a new golfer it was good to get experience of re-doing the front 9. Also good to get the experience of what a poorly managed course is like. Probably won't play here again. I'm sure the old guys had a membership and are generally miserable to be on the course with. Not too worried about that. But they need to start using martials here rather than letting the unpleasant element of their membership drive their traffic flow.

Without any hesitation, Tyler and his team were in action adjusting for the additional players. His crew was fantastic at helping keep game play moving forward without adding any pressure to players or eliminating the fun from the scramble. We ended up with 32 foursomes on the course, and had great reviews from the players about the condition of the course itself. My review takes into account the drought conditions we are currently having in Colorado. For the price the overall condition of the course is terrible. The fairways have a lot of dead grass spots and about a third of the greens are in similar condition. The City of Westminster should post the current poor conditions of course so golfers can decide if they want to pay that much for a round of golf given there current poor conditions.

The flags are those windsocks you would see near runways. Very cool. Great layout but most views are of the control tower or an office building. Very walkable with two long transfers (9 to 10 and 12 to 13). Greens are honestly boring. Very flat pushup greens for the most part. Fairways were soaking wet and the greens were firm. Tough combo for scoring that day. Otherwise, the architect did a great job navigating both sides of the major road that splits the course into two. The back 9 shines. 13 is a big, uphill par 5 with a split fairway after the tee shot. That third shot is straight up the hill. Then 14 is a short but tough par 3. Infinity green that was playing downwind with a front pin. Really cool hole. 15 and 16 are cool par 4s that dogleg in opposite ways. With 16, the second shot over water was nerve racking. 17 is a par 3 brute from the tips. 18 is that long par 5 with water all up the right side that plays towards the range and practice greens. Fun track and well worth the greens fee. I'll definitely try and come back and play more putts straight(er).

The front area is welcoming and the rear is devoted to golf. We're all probably pretty familiar with the technology by now, so not much new there. The lesson I had, though, was really great. I didn't feel rushed or pressured, just relaxed and accommodated. Tom and I spent some talking about my game , thoughts I had, thoughts he had, all while I was loosening up. Then we got to it. I won't get into the details of the lesson, but will I got three major takeaways and my swing and resulting shots into the screen were already producing results. Who could ask for more?! Tom obviously knows his stuff and knows how to teach it. Just what I was looking and hoping for.

I was able to play it again early this Friday morning with 3 great guys including one colorful character, Matt from Wausau now Golden. He's sporting the Loudmouth pants and golf bag. Fairways and greens are in excellent condition. The course is still cart path only, no problem for 6'7" Ben in our group that walks and carries his bag on every course. Fossil Trace is doing this to keep the course in prime shape while conserving precious water. The 12th hole remains my favorite. The standing rock formations require strategic shot placement. I carded a par today with a fortunate bounce off the rock stand behind the green then a good downhill chip save. Fossil Trace and Arrowhead remain my two favorite "fun factor" courses in the Denver area.

But every single day, the staff at the restaurant is above and beyond excellent. Never had a bad experience. Club management tends to let kids slide on bad behaviors, watches groups of kids throwing rocks at bunnies (young rabbits) and does nothing, and teenagers frequently driving golf carts around the club drinking alcohol (especially on holidays with fireworks viewable at the course, it's carts packed with teens drinking). There is a common lack of respect for the game of golf with little help from management; teenagers riding carts at high speed for one. Highly recommend, amazing kid amenities at the restaurant (kids eat free Tuesdays!! Buffet!!) excellent social value. Just be prepared to play with folks who learned golf etiquette from Tiger Woods. Look elsewhere for true adult golf "by the rules" experience, but this is as family as you can get with no rules enforced. Views are endlessly beautiful and course well maintained. Excellent for bird watching!
