You finally made it to Williamsburg? Now you're cool. That's just what you tell yourself. Keep that…read moreattitude. You'll fit in good here. In all seriousness it's not as bad as it's made to be. It's just so much fun making fun of hipsters. There's actually plenty of fun and interesting people. It's also a big neighborhood and has distinct areas. The south side is the home to one of the largest Hasidic communities in all the world. Lots of old synagogues to look at. There's predictably also lots of bagel places. East is the up and coming area. This includes the area around Sternberg Park. It has a more ethnic population than the north. The north side is what comes to mind when thinking of Williamsburg. A lot of oddball bars, restaurants, and shops here. Bedford stretch from Metropolitan to about 8th is the heart of the community, and where you should go if you want to experience the essence of this. So put on some flannel. Forget your razor. Live it up and let your inner douche out.

If you're part of the Polish diaspora aka Polonia, or remotely interested in WII, you've likely…read moreheard of the Warsaw Uprising of 1944. It was a major operation by the Polish underground resistance, led by the Home Army (Armia Krajowa / AK), to liberate Warsaw from Nazi-German occupation. It was the largest military effort taken by any European resistance movement during WII, but despite initial successes, the uprising was eventually defeated after 63 days of fierce fighting, leading to Warsaw's significant destruction, roughly 85% & significant civilian casualties (200,000 or so). Once Soviets seized control of Poland, this historical event wasn't celebrated by the authorities as the AK was loyal to the government-in-exile, and persecutions of those involved in the Uprising were the norm. Fast forward to today, a Warsaw Uprising is widely celebrated, and if you ever find yourself in Warsaw on the 1st of August, you'll experience something called Godzina W (W-Hour), where at 5pm the city comes to a literal standstill, with sirens marking the exact time the Uprising commenced. I get chills just thinking about it... The first rendition of this mural came into existence on the walls of the Warsaw Polish National Home in Greenpoint to mark the 70th anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising in 2014. Grzegorz Fryc, vice-president of Pangea Network was the main originator of the idea, and artist Rafał Pisarczyk was the muralist/artist. The mural pictured the Warsaw Mermaid armed with a sword, soldiers of all ages (including children & teenagers), a short description of the Uprising, and the Anchor (Kotwica), an emblem of the Polish resistance. Sadly, over the years, the mural was repeatedly vandalized, and it was quite a challenge to keep restoring it to its former glory. As of 2024, in three same exact spot, a new mural dealing with the same historical event has appeared, through the efforts of Grzegorz Fryc, president of Gram-X Promotions, who also was involved in the original mural alongside the Polish Army Veterans Association of America (SWAP). The Polish & Slavic Federal Credit Union (PSFCU) was also a funding source. The mural depict a massive Anchor monument, with a Polish flag draping it at the top, and AK soldiers engaged in an open battle with the Nazi occupant. "Heroes Who Lived Among Us" is painted on the upper right corner, referencing to the fact that many participants of the Uprising had to go into exile, and ended up settling in the USA, including Greenpoint.

I came to New York to celebrate her, so this dinner was supposed to be a special part of that trip. The atmosphere is very cozy and intimate, and initially, everything seemed promising. We were seated near the front, which wasn't our preferred location, but we didn't have a reservation, so that wasn't my main concern. I also appreciated that the bar was showing the Eagles game, and my friends really enjoyed the mussels and the drinks were good! The biggest disappointment was the service and THE FOOD WAS EVEN MORE. We had three servers throughout our visit, and the first two stopped assisting us without a clear handoff or explanation. They seemed irritated by our questions as we tried to understand the menu, including options we had seen online but not in person. We weren't familiar with everything being offered and would have appreciated some patience and guidance. Instead, I felt uncomfortable even trying to choose a meal. And I understand it's like a family based restaurant you know- so I expected the warm feeling of an Italian kitchen. Well NO. Our third server was much more patient and helpful, and I truly appreciated his effort. He orchestrated singing to my friend for her birthday(which they do for all birthdays ) and took a picture of our group, giving us some sweet memories from the evening. Unfortunately, by the time he took over, much of the damage to the experience had already been done. As for the food, I sent back the pasta e fagioli because it contained prosciutto. That could be my bad. Later, after discussing options with our third server, I received a pasta dish in chicken broth that was essentially a soup. It may be a traditional preparation I'm unfamiliar with, but it wasn't what I understood I was ordering or wanted for dinner. I ended up without a satisfying meal, although I did have a French 75. But like I've never seen this dish and like idk. I also asked for chicken scampi, but also was informed that scampi's only for seafood and they refused to make it because culturally not appropriate and I respect that as well but putting that out there as well. So then to get this from going from wanting an authentic pasta dish it just blew my mind. I do appreciate the third server trying to accommodate but like seriously what was this? One friend ordered the lasagna, which I would personally rate around a 6 out of 10. Another settled on spaghetti and meatballs after becoming frustrated with the ordering process. My friend who ordered shrimp scampi hadn't understood that it came with two sides rather than pasta. She ordered pasta separately, but felt it didn't complement the dish well. Not to mention that she asked for spaghetti noodles and they brought penne. I believe . I'm just confused like we didn't feel like we were being heard . Clearer explanations could have helped us make choices we would actually enjoy. It's just crazy because I really expected this to go perfectly and there's such great reviews and it's like what happened here.? If you're considering visiting, I recommend reviewing the menu beforehand to make sure it suits your needs. Be aware that some items we saw online weren't on the menu in person, and there were additional offerings we hadn't seen online. It may also help to call ahead and ask about the current menu and daily specials, although I can't speak to how readily they answer the phone. Our bill came to approximately $400, mostin our group left feeling hungry and dissatisfied. Spending that much on a birthday dinner and leaving so disappointed was incredibly frustrating. Three of us honestly wanted to send our dishes back, but in the spirit of our friends birthday, decided to just eat it up and try to enjoy the night to the best of our ability. I on the other hand on any other night might have caused more of a fuss. I can't speak to why the first two servers treated us that way, and I won't speculate about their intentions. I can only speak to how the service felt: unwelcoming, impatient, and uncomfortable. The space itself was cozy, but the energy of those interactions made it difficult to enjoy being there. I'm grateful to our final server for his patience, the birthday song, and our group photo. Those moments mattered, especially because we were there to celebrate someone special. But even with those bright spots, the overall experience was a 0 out of 10 for me. This reflects our personal visit, and based on that experience, I would not return.

VIBES: Welcome to Greenwich Village it's a historic neighborhood with nice buildings and cafes. The iconic spot is nestled in a lively corner of NYC with lots of foot traffic (tourists and locals alike), so parking isn't ideal -- I'd suggest subway or ride-share. The place has big energy: you feel like you're in an iconic, storied part of the city, which makes it fun and a little nostalgic thinking about all the episodes and references. I took no longer than like 15 minutes. TL; DR OVERALL: 4.5 Stars. If you're looking for a spot that mixes pop-culture nostalgia, solid fare, and a lively NYC neighborhood vibe -- this one's worth a stop. It leans more "moment experience" than "hidden gem," but its fun factor and overall quality make it memorable. I'll definitely keep it on my list for future visits and maybe bring F*R*I*E*N*D*S (ba-dum-tss) looking for an iconic NYC moment. TIPS: * The area is residential and mixed-use: be respectful, keep noise down if visiting early or late, and avoid blocking entrances.
