Our experience with this facility was deeply troubling. It took nearly six months and thousands of dollars in legal fees to obtain custody of my 86-year-old mother and remove her from this facility.
The administration refused to accept my properly executed Power of Attorney documents and initially refused to release prescriptions that my mother had personally paid for out of pocket. With assistance from her primary care physician and local pharmacy, we were able to secure her medications the following day.
I also received visitations from local Police Department and Adult Protective Services, both were more than satisfied with my mothers state of mind and her new surroundings.
The facility appeared consistently understaffed. Residents were frequently grouped together before and after meals with limited supervision. I personally witnessed residents wandering into other residents' rooms without staff intervention.
Hygiene and medical oversight were significant concerns. My mother experienced recurring urinary tract infections during her stay. There was no documented follow-up after her most recent infection. After removing her, her primary care physician confirmed the infection was still active and initiated proper treatment. She is now improving and scheduled for follow-up testing.
My mother was prescribed risperidone by a nurse practitioner during her stay. Her primary care physician immediately discontinued the medication upon review. We were not provided with a clear explanation as to why it had been prescribed.
We repeatedly raised concerns about medication administration. On more than one occasion, I found her pills left in a cup near her chair after being told she had taken them. When questioned, staff responses were inconsistent and often shifted responsibility between shifts.
Hydration was another concern. A water dispenser was placed in a common area, but cups were not consistently available, and many residents did not appear capable of independently accessing water.
During visits, I personally observed residents sitting or lying on the floor without immediate staff response, and one resident in a geriatric chair repeatedly asking for shoes without assistance.
Since removing my mother from this facility, she has improved significantly with proper medical follow-up, hydration, and attentive care. Her anxiety medications have been reduced under physician supervision, and her overall condition has stabilized. read more
