One of my favorite higher end used shops. So sad they closed the Red Bank location. I always seem to find something here. The prices are more than your average used shop but the quality is there and the labels are worth it. For the most part, the staff seems non-existent but no shade. I like it like that. I've been to the Princeton Greene Street twice this summer. Their selection above a size large in women's clothing is non-existent. It's disappointing that they offer very little for mid or plus size women. On my most recent trip, I stood in line to purchase a shirt, however, there were no staff anywhere to be found. They have a few shops in NJ and about five shops in PA. Always great prices. Only the shop in Princeton carries men's and women's clothes in New Jersey whereas all other stores in New Jersey are women only. There is a nice store for women's in Lambertville and there are four other stores in Pennsylvania. A few of them carry men's and women's and some of them only women's. Many name brands like Gucci, Prada and etc. available for sale! This store is located right in downtown of Princeton. It's organized with highly professional staff. They do take their time with each customer to assure best customer satisfaction. I would not be able to speak for prices since they have a huge variety of merchandise, HM to Gucci brands. Downside to this location: limited parking space (metered parking) and small men's celebration (upstairs). I'm not a fan of negative reviews BUT I have to share this really bad experience. But first, yes they do have some great pieces here but has never been my favorite Greene Street location. Lambertville has a much better inventory and so does Philadelphia. However, Nassau Street in Princeton is location, location.... We happened to be in Princeton and my daughter wanted to stop in. She settled on a nice pair of loafers/ slippers and a very pretty bangle with a solid covering of crystals. The implied AND spoken promise is no stains or damage in their inventory. You can see from the consignment reviews that they can be tough. Therefore we did not go over the bangle with a fine tooth comb.... I want to share that this bangle had five different colors in it and is a beautiful piece of jewelry, so we went ahead and made our purchase and when we stepped outside the store my daughter was showing me the bangle and in doing so I noticed that not one, but two stones were missing. We went back into the store to share this with the store manager and two other people on the floor. Shockingly, they basically said our policy is no returns whatsoever and we understand your frustration, but this is your purchase and you're basically stuck ....when we pointed out that a customer should be able to expect a finer quality of consignment pieces and as such this piece should not have been in the display counter for sale... they agreed, but still instead of offering a credit or for us to pick something else out (which is what I would've done and probably been happy to spend more money on an item of replacement) ....they just said sorry!! I've been in retail management, Wholesale sales and marketing all my life including my own businesses and customer service is number one.... I can't emphasize enough how disappointing the attitude is at this store, so just be cautious and beware. I'm reading these comments about bad customer service and can tell you that I have never in over 10+ years experienced any thing less than stellar service at this store. I just called the store today to inquire about consigning and Kristen was so attentive and answered all of my questions, half of which I probably could have found on the website, which you are directed to during the voice prompts. I didn't feel rushed and she was so polite. I always make sure I pop in when I'm enjoying a beautiful day in the heart of Princeton. I have made several purchases over the years and each piece has received compliments when I wear them.. The prices may be a bit on the high end, but it's a high end consignment boutique, not your local Goodwill. The staff are friendly and are always working when I have stopped in. They are RACISTS ! PRINCESTON GREEN STREET STORE !! Especially that Joya/the lady who smirks all the time. I have consigned with them easily 8 times in 2 years. ALL MY STUFF IS SOLD !!! EVERY SINGLE TIME !!! I usually go there in spring and summer and do a mix of branded clothing like loft, banana republic, lucky brand but also take Indian stuff like Fabindia Tunics/bohemian hand made purses/cute jewelry and I have a track record of everything getting sold. I went last week with a similar consignment and JOYA rudely said that none of them could be taken in. What changed I wonder !! Then I realized that their store has started to look boring, very repetitive and pricing is high too !! I see fewer people in there every time I go. the USP (unique selling proposition) of the store was indeed the global clothing, the vintage selection and the color popping cutesy stuff. What's the point of stocking boring branded clothing for the same high price as first hand stores when we can very much go to the "original" stores and get them first hand ?? I have been shopping at Greene Street for almost 10 years. It's a great place to find fancy stuff for cheap, and good quality basics for even cheaper. I've always wondered about consigning, but after reading the reviews, I think I will stick being just a shopper. One note in support of the complainants... I went in yesterday and found Lularoe items and Kohl's items, which were surprising considering the higher standard that Greene Street purports to have. I have seen similar items in Goodwill stores! The quality of the overall selection has definitely gone down, but prices remain good and shopping there continues to be fun. read more

I am extremely put off by my experience trying to consign clothes at Greene Street. I made three trips in one day to bring in my clothing for consignment. For the first two trips, my clothes were examined by two different sales clerks who were both very pleasant. The first sales clerk selected 4 of my coats and told me to definitely bring them back (you need 10 items total for Greene Street to open a consignment contract with you). When I came back with more clothes, the second sales clerk selected 3 more items (7 total). I asked this clerk if I should bring in more items of clothing to try to get to 10 so that a contract could be opened. She said yes. I asked if they would hold the 7 items behind the counter so I could come back with more items. She said yes. When I came into the store 15 minutes later with a third bundle of clothing, the third sales clerk (who I assume to be the manager) saw me coming up to the counter and immediately shook her head at me. Before I even reached the counter -- and before she had even looked through the bundle I brought -- she said that they were not going to accept any of my items. I was confused and said that I had 7 items that previous clerks had accepted and were holding, and that I was bringing in this bundle to see if I could get to 10 items. She made a cryptic comment about how they had had a conversation about those 7 items and that they were no longer accepting them. The manager said she could look through the bundle I had brought, but that they were towards the end of the season and probably weren't going to accept anything. Totally different from what the previous clerks had told me. Given her obvious disdain, it was no surprise that the manager didn't end up accepting any of my items. She then handed me a list of brands they accept and said specifically that they don't accept Anne Klein because it is cheap. I consign frequently and I don't normally take offense when stores don't accept my clothing -- that's how consignment works. But the rude way in which I was treated by this manager was really unnecessary. I would have been understanding if she had said it was an honest mistake and that she would train her clerks to select more carefully in the future. Instead, I received a half hearted apology and barely any explanation for why clothes they had previously accepted were now being rejected. People take time and effort to go through their closets to look for consignment items, to drive them to the store, to find parking, and to bring them in for evaluation. It was very disrespectful to me and to my time to have been treated this way. I hope people who want to consign with Greene Street in the future don't have the same experience. read more

Great experience shopping here. I walked in looking for some colorful dresses, pulled 6 from the rack tried them on, and settled on 2. In and out within 20 min. Both stylish and sophisticated, perfect for my engagement shoot. I was very satisfied with the quality, as it was exactly what I was hoping to find. Paid less than $50. Place is clean and organized, with a huge selection of colors and styles, where sizes are appropriate. I could have easily spent a lot more time looking if I was browsing rather than on a mission. I walked into the store with 3 bags of freshly laundered, neatly folded clothing and brought it to the counter. I was told to leave everything there and that I would be texted once they had gone through it. I walked around the store (as consignors are not allowed to leave during the clothing review), put more money in the meter, looked around upstairs, sat on a bench near the counter, wandered over to the jewelry section, sat back down, put more money in the meter, made another trip upstairs, came back down, and sat near the counter for another 7-8 minutes when a woman behind the counter called me over. "We're done with your bags" she said with a rude smirk, adding "Yeah, we've been done", leaving me to wonder why I had not been notified in that case. "We're not taking any of it. We would take the coat, but thats just one item and we need 10". She condescendingly waved her hand towards the bags bulging and overflowing with now wadded up articles of clothing, not deigning to touch them again, indicating she was done with my clothes and me too. I am not a stranger to consigning, having done it for over a decade at various boutiques around NJ/NYC. I know that many items will be rejected and sometimes arbitrarily. But I was taken aback at this ill-mannered woman's manner of speaking to me. "Ok" I said, mentally planning to bring the clothes to a different consignment shop a few blocks over. "Most of these are just too old, more than 2 years" she stated, watching me try to cram my once neatly folded apparel back into the bags. I was stunned because 7 pieces were items I had brought in just a month before and were "accepted" but I didn't have that magical 10, so had to bring them back home. So... they got "old" in those 3 1/2 weeks between mid September and mid October? And 3 items were brand new, currently being sold at Macy's at that very moment (I had stupidly removed the tags before realizing they didn't fit me - I swear clothes are being made smaller these days). Not to mention, I had spotted a few items hanging in the store that I knew were from possibly a decade ago because thats when I had seen and/or bought the exact same pieces in the past. Her attitude was insulting and uncalled for. This was on top of being made to wait long after they had gone through my bags without giving me a heads-up, costing me time and money. This review is as a shopper, not a consigner, as I am not a local. Since we have relatives who live very nearby and our son goes to school in the city, we have been here many times and have always found a great deal. The shop is well-curated and maintained and the staff is friendly. The first floor features the newest items and they're arranged by type and size. They focus on contemporary styles. Given its location to the university, it's not surprise that the bulk of items and big deals are small sizes (clothing) and average (too large for me) sizes for shoes (8, 9). Still, as a short and portly almost-senior -- as I've said -- I've found something fun each time. Upstairs are the sale/clearance items, which include clothing, shoes and jewelry (and also, the men's section). The deals are really good if you're able to find something to suit you. read more

For a few years I decided to buy only things that were either made in the US or purchased second hand. Greene Street was a staple for me, although I would only find something about once every three times I stopped in. Unfortunately, they've changed the rules about consigning in the past year. They need to accept at least 10 of the seasonal items you bring in order to consign with them. This is quite restricting since it means you need at least 10 items that are in season, in good condition, and meet their brand limitations. In addition to having a minimum number of items, they are very picky about which brands they'll take. I've come before with items that they said they would love to take, but since they would only take 3-4 of the 20 items I brought, they decide not to take any. I think a lot of the nice clothes people bring in a re rejected in favor of clothes that often aren't as nice but they meet the designer standard the store is now going for. I liked it better when they looked for nice clothes, not just expensive clothes. read more

As a buyer, I'd give Greene Street 3 stars. Nice quality items in good condition. As a consigner...well, let's just say I won't be consigning with them again. I brought in a pile of high quality items (many with the tags still on) and all never worn. Apparently, they only accept items 2 years old or less? There is no way that labels I see there are 2 years or less. I have personally purchased items there that are more vintage, so not sure if this is new. They also told me that one of my newer dresses which had never been worn was too old when it was actually the newest item in the lot. I think their selection is completely arbitrary depending on the person you get. There was also a line, and they weren't exactly polite or personable after waiting so long. They weren't rude, but definitely an attitude of arrogance, rather than respectful business relationship, which was rather off-putting. Personally, for the chintzy amount of change they give you when you finally do get a measly 40%, I'd rather donate my things to local women's shelter or Vietnam Vets of America. 1 star. Alrighty. Yelpers, I refuse to be a silent bystander any longer. Usually I lurk. I'm a lurker, a user and a taker. I read other reviews and benefit selfishly from the joys and/or mishaps of other Yelpers. But I'm aggrieved enough by the negative reviews of Greene Street to take action and throw in my two cents. And mind you, I'm the kind of person who picks up pennies on the street; two cents can add up! So, here it is: Greene Street (especially the one in Princeton) is the best consignment shop I have ever seen. I came, I saw, I shopped and, man, I did some serious retail therapy. I travel extensively for work and I may be one of the few here who has been to all of the Greene Street chains. I bought Roberto Cavalli at South Street. I bought a Fendi watch and Kate Spade at the Mainline location. I've purchased BCBG and Burberry in Lambertville. I am, at this very moment, wearing a Hugo Boss brand new with tags (yes, I did take the tags off) Tshirt and Calvin Klein jacket that I bought in Princeton. I wasn't fast enough to buy the Tori Burch ballet flats that were being held behind the counter for another shopper (darnit!). If you love shopping and you covet designer clothing at a fraction of the price, this is your mecca. Like all consignment or thrift stores, you will want to hunt for the good stuff. But isn't that also half the fun? If you've been around the block a few times (get your mind out of the gutter) you know that you need to inspect the clothing for faults, tears, stains, makeup smudges, snags, etc. Especially under the armpits, the collar and the sleeve cuffs. Nonetheless, by and large, Greene Street does an excellent job at maintaining high quality merchandise. You will find everything from brand new with tags Marc by Marc Jacobs to a beautiful Escada black skirt that has become a wardrobe staple of mine. I usually shell out $25-30 per item. No, its not Goodwill prices . But quite honestly, you will pay $5-7 for a Tshirt at Goodwill these days and personally I would much rather buy something of higher quality for double the price . Anyway, my two favorite locations are the Princeton and the Main Line. I swear, I think there are women on the Mainline who wear their Chanel once and then consign the item. Hey, the more the merrier! I seriously will save up my money all year to shop Greene Street knowing that it is better than any outlet shopping I will ever find. And all in one store! As you can tell, I'm a fan. I also want to say that my experience has been that of a shopper. As a consigned, YMMV (your mileage may vary) and it sounds like quite a few people have their panties in a wad as consigners but whatever. Just know that is their baggage. This is one of my favorite places in Princeton to shop. I stop in once every few weeks to see what they have, and I always walk out with something really excellent stuff. Overall, the store is laid out very nicely - they have a ton of merchandise, and it is laid out in a manner such that you are not smashed up against the shopper next to you. It's very clean and bright, and the staff does a good job of displaying special items. They also sell merchandise made by local vendors - scarves, candles, etc - very cool and fun. Unlike other consignment shops I have visited, Greene Street really places a premium on presentation. They have a great selection of jewelry, and it's all very nicely laid out and well organized - no untangling necklaces or fishing for rings in a bowl here. I've had some AMAZING finds here. I bought my dream Michael Kors bag here, a gorgeous black BCBG gown, several pieces of cool and interesting jewelry. My boyfriend bought a beautiful, brand-new Italian-made suit here for a price that was almost criminally low. The staff is really hip, professional and friendly, they are always really happy to help their customers. This place just opened in Princeton and it's a huge hit! Being a consignment store, this place is choosier about the kinds of things it sells and as a result, has a lot of hidden gems. There's a wide variety of brands, ranging from Old Navy and Gap to more high end ones like Jill Stuart, Ferragamo and they even pride themselves on having some Gucci, Versace, etc. I think the prices are very reasonable and that they assign prices fairly. They have everything: pants and shorts, tops, jackets, dresses, shoes, hats, accessories, a men's section, etc. etc etc. Everything in the store is in good shape and the prices reflect the quality of the item. When I go, I mainly browse their dress section and shoes and have made quite a few awesome finds! I think most of their items fall within the 15-35 dollar price range. They update their selection often so I always pop in when I'm around to see if I can find anything new. read more

Whoever curates the selection has great taste. All the clothing reflects the upscale and tasteful but laid-back vibes you get from Princeton women shopping on Nassau street. Most of the clothing is meant for a 30+ crowd (i.e. tons of Banana Republic) and you won't see seapunk creepers in the shoe section or galactic-print anything. I have found amazing deals here. Black skinny J-brand jeans for 10 bucks, Missoni (for Target) vest for 15 bucks, Nicole Miller vintage geometric print shirt for 15 bucks, just to name a few. For $80, you can basically get anything in the entire store, which more than likely includes at least one amazing thing by Prada or D&G. What impresses me most is the curation of the clothes here. They're not afraid to include expensive-looking Forever 21 pieces next to the very Ralph Lauren pieces they are knocking off. What matters most is the overall look this store promotes. That's something I don't really see in vintage stores in Manhattan, and the prices are much lower. Probably my favorite store in Princeton! read more

A great consignment shop that looks and feels like a "real" retail shop. Large and bright, GSC offers a variety of gently-used clothing and accessories to those looking for cheap(er) clothing. There is more mainstream clothing than vintage; lots of Banana Republic, JCrew, Ann Taylor, BCBG to some pricier brands. All clothing accepted and consigned is in impeccable condition. I wasn't impressed with the shoes, for many of them looked surprisingly scuffed and worn, unlike the clothing. Prices aren't dirt cheap, but hey, it's a consignment shop in Princeton! I bought several items, including a gorgeous embroidered silk scarf, a Banana Republic grey silk top ($16), another Banana black silk skirt ($22), and an Anthropologie dress ($40). The store is clean, well lit, and it appears that the women's section is well organized and stocked. In stark contrast the upstairs menswear section is a drag. Clothes are packed onto the racks - it's difficult to tell what is what or get anything off of the rack for a closer look. Its a two story shop located on the main street in Princeton. First store has regularly priced merchandise, and the second floor has clearance. Prices are not "consignment/thrift store" more like Filenes Basement. Most of the clothes is kinda of ....well, not really something I would ever consider wearing, but there were a few nice pieces, however those were overpriced, my luck or maybe I just that classy. Overall, I expected the selection to be much much better (considering, this is Princeton), then what was there. I just had a comically bad experience trying to sell some clothes at Greene Street. I've been a regular customer for years and spend a ton of money there (no more). The girl running the consignment area was so rude - -while being simultaneously VERY cheerful -- I felt like I was in some cringe comedy or prank show. She said to put my clothes by the door -- I didn't know if I'd maybe missed a bin by the front door, or if she meant the employee's only door? She sarcastically laughed and said "uh.......YEAH. BY. THE. DOOR." pointing at the employee door. Great start. When it came to the pricing process she managed to make fun of one of my dresses (hint, if you've never heard of Au Jour Le Jour and say you're not sure if it's high end enough for the store, even though it was $700+ retail and I saw something from H&M on my way in, pricing consignment might not be the job for you) as well as cut me off multiple times and berate me for not bringing at least 10 items (how was I supposed to know??). I said I could come back with five more items and she cut me off to say "LET ME FINISH -- I'm going to make an EXCEPTION for you." Oh, joy. The kicker: they would email me in 2 weeks with the prices. Great! And I asked if, I wasn't comfortable with the prices, could I come back for my items, she looked utterly shocked and said "that is HIGHLY unusual. We're professionals. They will be priced correctly." Listen: I've done consignment in NYC, I sell all the time to an array of clothes dealers, and they always say that if you want to take something back, that's fine. They want you to be comfortable with the selling your clothes. I said after thinking about it, I'd rather not sell at Greene street. She huffed and puffed and slammed my bag in front of me, with a curt "GREAT. THANKS SOOOO MUCH FOR YOUR TIME." I felt like I'd deeply upset a particularly 6 year old I used to babysit. I'm not shopping at Greene street anymore. Too many wonderful vintage / consignment / thrift stores in NJ/NY. I think this woman thought that because she was crazily smiling at me half the time, she was a beacon of quality customer service. The designer handbags section here is fantastic! I have been able to find both vintage and in-season bags in almost new condition for great prices. They also have probably the largest selection of shoes, too, including Jimmy Choos, Manolos, Ferragamos, and Pradas. Prices here are on par with the other locations and everything is in great condition. The manager here is also very helpful and sweet, as are the staff. Parking on Nassau is a pain but you can park in the empty campus lot/municipal court lot on weekends (it's a block down and across the street, near the old Chem building). read more

Edit: I've dealt with the owner, and she is incredibly kind and helpful! I think she gets 5+/5 for being genuine, friendly, and helpful. I'm an avid vintage collector and fashion addict who likes to go thrifting a lot--sometimes I'll luck out and find something special in an otherwise ordinary place (ie. Goodwill in the middle of nowhere). I've been to Greene Street more than 12 times in the past year, mostly only dropping by because I live on campus and often go to Fruity Yogurt next door for a treat...this place isn't worth going out of your way, but if you're already next door, then why not? A few times, I've found something I'd take home--one of my favorite pairs of shoes, from Spain, and summer dresses. If you're a fashion and vintage addict, I would not mark this place as a special shop to visit. If you're looking for a lot of up-to-date contemporary basics for the office and everyday wear (ie. most of Princeton life), then this is a good place to go for affordable clothes. The staffers are really hit or miss--I've had incredibly nice staffers who go out of their way to compliment my outfit and help with my purchases (thanks!) and other staffers who have been brusque and rude. The prices are not good for the selection--only one rack of high-end designer clothing, and most of those are very generic in design (this may be the fault of Princeton consignors and not the store--though why not outsource from other locations?).
