He was very systematic, taking the time to ask professional and in depth questions to navigate the many variables of my case, including recent international travel and a recent bout of pink eye. As my full-body soreness spread and intensified rapidly, Dr. Zimmerman quickly ordered over 20 labs to rule out various infections and conditions. Before working with Mike, I had been to the ER twice without receiving any answers; they simply didn't have the time for me. What I appreciated most about working with Mike was his genuine care. I truly felt that he wouldn't stop until we had the answers we needed. Incredibly, Dr. Zimmerman had already identified Vasculitis as a top candidate before my primary symptom, a severe full-body rash even appeared. He had already helped me schedule a dermatology appointment in advance, so my skin graft was set for the day after those symptoms surfaced. Just as I became too weak to walk, we received the diagnosis and I had Vasculitis and began the proper treatment. Not knowing what was wrong while my condition worsened was a very scary experience. That may be the general guideline but I have a family history of colon cancer. The recommendation for colon cancer screenings for people with a family history is every 5 years unless something abnormal like polyps are present. I gave her a document of my medical history that I always bring to new doctors (first saw her in 2016) and I have a section on my family history. When my current PCP referred me to a GI for unexplained abdominal pain, my GI doc said I should be having colonoscopies every 5 years based on my family history. I stopped seeing her in September 2017 because I moved to Fremont and found a great doc at Sunnyvale's One Med location (though sometimes I go to Palo Alto because I work in Menlo Park). Overall I thought Susan was a caring doctor who listened to her patients but maybe needed to review my records more thoroughly before deciding when I needed a colonoscopy. I think she might have been inexperienced so maybe her recommendations will be more accurate as she becomes a seasoned doc.

Dr. Merupula has been my PCP for several years…read more What I respect most about Dr. Merupula is that she respects medical choice and bodily autonomy, and respects your role as the primary decision-maker in your own care. This should be a given with any provider you go to, but too often medical paternalism still rules the day, where you are treated like a child who is to be told what to do with your own body. That attitude doesn't fly with me, and thankfully Dr. Merupula does not have this mentality. She has accommodated my requests for additional testing I want for my own information, which some previous providers have inexplicably vetoed, as if the cost is coming out of their own pockets, or as if I'm not sophisticated enough to understand the results. She also respects my decisions to say "no thank you" to certain one-size-fits-all 'standard of care' protocols that are not right for me, without argument or pushback. She is easy to talk with, and is a good listener. I absolutely recommend her if you're looking for a physician that respects your fundamental right to be in charge of your own health care.

friendly and professional. i went here to get my USCIS…read moreimmigration medical exam, they were able to schedule me in the next day and were on time. they were able to provide me with the blood test for TB instead of the skin test, which is the only test that most USCIS approved physicians provide. for me the skin test would have come out false positive since i got the BCG vaccine as a baby, and resulted in my having to take a chest x-ray... the blood test is expensive but i'm so happy i did not need to go through the whole x-ray thing as happened to some of my friends who were forced to take the skin test. the doctor also went through my recent medical records so that i didn't have to pay extra for any lab tests that had already been done in other facilities. i never felt rushed, and they took the time to answer my questions. i really appreciate their service and would go back anytime.
