I went for a private birthday party event. Started off with a tour of how they make their spirits. The owner was very informative and the staff was very friendly. Service and ambiance were great. They really took care of the place, because everywhere was nice and clean. When we were making cocktails the staff was very encouraging and wanted us to try and create new flavors with our own twist. Overall was a fun and unique experience, and I would recommend to someone who has never been.

Took a tasting tour of the distillery on a Sunday afternoon when regular operations were shut down. It made for a rather boring presentation. I could barely follow the tour guide as she speaks fast and low and assumes everyone is following her (internal) references and run-on thoughts. I've gone to tons of tours of distilleries and wineries all over Europe and can understand tour guides even though they speak English as a second language because they incorporate humor, quips, and present in a loud voice. There was very little show and tell to bring alive the points about processing. For example she mentioned wheat used in making alcohol. How difficult is it to pass around a bottle of wheat kernels and point to the vats where the alcohol is fermenting? Then again there were confusing conflations. She mentioned 100 percent organic locally-procured ingredients. So where is the wheat grown locally?? Oh, except the wheat. I simply had a hard time following and keeping in mind the different information pertaining to each of the spirits and liqueurs. I wouldn't recommend this to international visitors since I am barely able to follow along. It's a shame because their products are very interesting particularly as they use organic infusing herbs and plants. For $15 in France I would have had a full flight wine tasting with nibbles and a glass of wine. Here, although they aren't allowed to give you over a certain amount of alcohol in the tasting, surely they could offer some complementary smelling/tasting experiences with food or herbs? We had a taste of five spirits (choose between three tequilas, two gins, two whiskeys, two rums, two vodkas, two amaros which are European bitter style liqueurs and a variety of herbal liqueurs.) The tequilas are made in Jalisco and their anejo aged tequila at $70 is incredibly good. Every one of their spirits is top notch I will give them that. Presentation for the price was a bit of a let down, but still an eclectic find in what is a bleak, industrial setting under a highway...very metaphorically underground Los Angeles.

Came here for a work event. Excellent private tour. My favorite drink is the ginger liquor.

We came here for a company event. The appetizers and samples of the tequilas and wines are amazing. Ginger was my favorite. The 5 course dinner was also amazing. It was an Excellent private tour. Our guide was incredibly knowledgable and gave us a fantastic evening at the Greenbar Distillery. We learnt about the history, culture and much more. We are familiar with many distilleries in Cali and this one is one of the greatest. We were very happy with our tour. Time and money well invested! The waiters are very professional. The ambiance of the establishment had a great vibe! Definitely worth going again!

Ambiance: Spacious modern bar and distillery. Service: Tequila Tasting Loved! the staff informed us about the different types tequila, blue agave, and preparation styles. Their open and approachable nature made the experience super fun. Alcohol: Their choice of tequilas are smooth and high quality. So good sipping them un-chilled was pleasant. I usually steer away from hard alcohol, but I truly loved their product. Highly recommend! The space: I loved the layout of the entire distillery. It's very spacious, clean, and modern. In addition, there's a glass wall which provides a view of the manufacturing facility. Parking: Street Tips: Definitely ride share

I went to one of their private events and it was incredibly fun and informative. I learned how to make mock tails. The staff was friendly and kind and the ambience was extremely fun and inviting, but still professional, and very clean. The drinks were very cool.

Loved the tour of Greenbar Distillery! Our guide was very knowledgeable and witty, she kept the group laughing throughout the tour. The distillery is pretty small, probably expect to spend about an hour or less for the entire tour. You get tiny tastings throughout the tour, and a few more at the very end. Because of distillery laws, they're only allowed to serve up to 6, 1/4 ounces of tastings per tour. You also cannot purchase most of their alcohol on site. Check their website for more tour info: https://greenbardistillery.com/visit-distillery/distillerytour/ Overall, it was a fun experience. I've never heard of Greenbar before but now that I've learned much about it, I'll have to seek this out at Whole Foods. Love that everything is made organically and as environmentally friendly as possible. There is plenty of free street parking. During colder weather, bring your jacket! It's cold inside the distillery.

I'm going to admit it, I'm very biased towards another certain Arts District distillery. But, I'm still glad I visited Greenbar. I think their company story is cute and their commitment to all-organic ingredients and sustainability should be praised and admired. Plus all their offerings were delicious too. Definitely try the Jasmine liqueur! If you're coming here, take advantage of the Groupon deal to be worth the experience and liquor samplings you get. Parking is a breeze so don't worry. When you arrive, you are greeted and checked-in. Tour starts promptly and you are guided into their distillery room. The room size is modest but the power of their machines was impressive to learn about. My tour guide was amiable and open to questions, which was appreciated. The tour will cover the history of Greenbar and its bragging rights as LA's first legal distillery post-Prohibition. Then you'll go over all the the distillation machinery and their quality control process. It's interesting how they attempt 95% quality for all their products, thus, apparently a bottle produced from years ago will taste the exact same as one made today. So why 3 stars? I know legally, you're alloted only a certain amount of tastings so you don't drive drunk, etc. but I found it a bit lacking and overall unfortunate you could only try 3 other options through the 3 drink tokens they give you during check-in. Overall, the other distillery experience was just so *magical* I really can't help but compare. I think the cocktail mixing class they offer might be a better experience than just the tour with limited tastings.

All respect to cocktailians! The whole "designing a new cocktail" thing is waaaaay harder than it looks. When my friend invited me to partake in a Cocktail Class at Greenbar Distillery, my first thought was: do I get to drink the cocktail I invent? And the answer is yeah, of course you do, if you can: my first attempt was way too heavy on the herbals for more than a few sips. While my second cocktail was a huge improvement over the first, it still lacked a certain something. Bow down to the cocktail artists of the world. So I am not a big fan of cooking in general and sometimes am challenged in the area of following directions, especially if numbers are involved. But Greenbar made the learning process so simple. Our class started with a brief lecture about the best ratios of alcohol to sweet to tart for our cocktails. Then we were provided with a worksheet to help us select our ingredients (Greenbar spirits and all organic produce were provided). We were shown step by step how to muddle, shake and pour. And it was a lot of fun. Of course, the best cocktail by far was the City of Angels we were given right at the beginning of class, compliments of the Distillery. While I do like the name of my cocktail (Tequila Thyme), astute cocktail experts will observe that an herbal is probably not the way to go with tequila. (See margaritas, all-time favorite cocktail of Americans.) The spirits and cocktail tools are all available for purchase in the Distillery. Many of the spirits are made right there in the Distillery (tours are available, call first.) And by the way, everything is locally sourced and organic when possible. Taking a cocktail class here would be a great bachelorette party idea, date idea, or girls' night out. Street parking.

My friends and I toured the Greenbar Distillery for a friend's birthday. The distillery is conveniently located in the Arts District area and it wasn't hard finding street parking nearby. We arrived late, but we easily joined the group while they were already on tour. For ~45 minutes, my friends and I listened to the Greenbar guides as they provide excellent overview of the distillery, the distilling process, the ingredients they use, and the resulting organic spirits and liqeurs. We got to sample three flavored 1 oz. tasters during the tour and another three of your choice afterwards. My favorite was the jasmine liqeur because it tasted like a sweet jasmine tea syrup. The guides were all enthusiastic with great sense of humor, which made the tour more enjoyable. Overall, I thought my first distillery tour was fun and educational. I learned a lot and had a blast with my friends as a group. My bf even bought a bottle of whiskey towards the end at the gift shop.

    Anita M.

This place makes an excellent product. Al of their ingredients are organic and any of their flavors are intense and clean. I often find flavored liquors to taste artificial, but I like all of theirs. My favorites are the jasmine and ginger, but also the hibiscus, but that one is more like an aperitif for me. The staff is knowledgeable and willing to help make a selection. It is housed in a beautiful space with an airy upstairs bar that overlooks barrels below in the distillery. Parking is free on the street.

    Private part

We did a private party here for a birthday where we learned how to make cocktails and mocktails... it was the most amazing experience and everyone was so kind and open to sharing about their business and their tips and tricks. Highly recommend Greenbar Distillery!!

    Sean Matthew L.

Greenbar is taking the traditional concept of a distillery and twisting it while maintaining the core spirit of it all. Rooted in a desire to get his wife drunk at family events this distillery isn't just making the classics, they're pushing into infusions and making what could have just been a vodka into a spicy ginger liquor that mixes well or sips as a digestif. Asking, 'why does everyone only use white American oak for whiskey?' And answering with a blend of 5 different woods infused into their aging process to make their smooth and unwieldy 5-woods whiskey in barrel strength and diluted for those that can't hang. They started using organic ingredients simply for the stronger flavors, but then pushed further to become a carbon negative facility. Every 2 oz. pour puts them and you into a carbon neutral to negative state because they plant a tree for every bottle sold. The amount of carbon offset on the lifetime of the tree far outweighs the impact of producing the bottle, so sit back and enjoy!

Fast forward to the middle of December, now it's *really* expiring, so I was there last night for a tasting before it expired! I imagine it could get busy sometimes, since it's not that large - but when we were there, Saturday around 5, it wasn't busy at at, so it felt nice and intimate, and our bar service was great. (I'm definitely glad indoor seating is available and relatively safe again, cause their speakeasy setup is a great vibe, way better than drinking out in the parking lot or whatever, haha.) I can't comment on the food or the cocktails, since I was just there for the tasting (the beer and cocktails looked pretty good, but we had dinner plans this was on the way to, I wasn't going to keep my wife waiting for the Ethiopian food she was really out here for! That and they're pricey - the coolest-looking ones were like $18!) I also sadly can't comment on *all* their spirits, since a tasting only includes 3 spirits and they have a decent range at the tasting room! I was lucky enough to be tasting with my wife, though, so I can comment on 6 of them. I'll also mention the price of the groupon, if a deal happens to come back that includes a tasting, the included tasting is their three core (cheaper) bottles, or you can pick any 3 and possibly pay up to a few extra bucks depending how expensive the bottles you want to try were, which is pretty reasonable. (The same goes for the bottle, if you want to use a Groupon that includes a bottle for a different one than the included bourbon, though in this case, I took the bourbon - it's a great bourbon! I also didn't notice that you still have to pay tax on the included bottle, but I'm not going to complain, we still got two tastings and a bottle for less than the price of a bottle, haha. Though that Groupon isn't currently available - tastings are normally $18-23 depending on the priciness of the bottles, which is a bit pricey, but I also get that making small batch whiskeys and aging them a long time is expensive, especially in LA. Was nice having a Groupon though!) The specific spirits I tried included their base bourbon and a smoked version (the base version was great, the smoked version was even tastier, but I didn't think *enough* tastier to justify how expensive it was. The core bourbon was totally worth its $46.) Also tried their flavored whiskey, which absolutely tasted like liquid caramel corn, and is totally affordable. Their reposado gin was great, but in that price range, there are a few aged gins I've had I've liked more (it was still great though). On the other hand, their spiced rum absolutely does knock my previous favorite local craft spiced rum bottle down to second-favorite, theirs is so good! Too bad I already had a bottle of spiced rum at home, and you only use spiced rum so often! Finally, I had to try their very pricey absinthe, which, you know good absinthe is going to be pricey. It's quite good absinthe, haha. I did also love that they served the tasting with droppers of water, in case you wanted to add water to your whiskey. I don't like adding water to whiskey usually, but I do like adding a few drops to absinthe, so that worked out! Plus it just looks super classy. I look forward to when they open a second location much closer to us, because I *do* have to try all their spirits. (It sounds like one is coming relatively soon.)
