Snickerdoodle & chai ice cream pedal-powered
    Julie L.

I remember walking through downtown LA in heels one evening, looking for a place to eat. We couldn't pick one because there were just too many places with 3-4 stars. This trip to downtown LA was a lot more successful. Sure, I could go to Bottega Louie again, but instead, Madeline takes you on an adventure and she's more than a guide, she becomes your friend and your group becomes your friends, at least for 3 hours. You can go it alone and meet new people or go with a friend and still meet new people. They cater to most food allergies or preferences. We met at the Upstairs bar at the Ace Hotel (actually, it says United Artists outside so that was a bit confusing), which has its own sign to the elevator that brings you up. She was easy to find and had a sparking wine waiting for me. Madeline's personality is as sparkling as the wine and SHE GETS TO CHOOSE THE RESTAURANTS ON THIS TOUR so her passion for the food really shows through. Not only did the chefs and staff know her, they said she went in a few times a week to eat there on her own. Our guide walked us to the Eastern Building where we introduced ourselves and our favorite foods and gave us information on the revitalization of DTLA's food scene. First stop was Wood Spoon, a small cozy Brazilian restaurant with a great story. We were treated to cinnamon water, the best sangria I've ever had, and an appetizer trio. I don't know much about Brazilian food, but I know they don't skimp on the stuffing inside their shrimp croquette. For the entree (part 1), we went to Cento Pasta Bar, a permanent pop-up restaurant in a wine bar. That means that they cook fancy pasta dishes on 4 or so burners! We had the beet pasta with goat cheese on top. I stopped eating pasta because I was over-consuming and if I lived nearby, I would have a problem. They served the dish with Malbec. For part 2 of the entree, we had 3 mini tacos from Guisado's. Yes, the famous one, but it's worth coming to. Oh, and our guide graciously went to bring us all water. On the way, our guide stopped and told us about the historic Alexandria Hotel and all the quirks on Broadway. It made the history nerd in me come alive! Finally, we went to Peddler's Creamery. I've been here before, but this time, we got a backstage tour of their small establishment. We got a scoop of half snickerdoodle and half chai. It was the perfect ending to a warm summer afternoon. Also, I got in about 5,000 steps. Hey, can I work here?

Our walking food tour in Venice was truly divine! Lobster rolls, hidden food markets, vegan crab cakes, and fresh donuts made for one perfect afternoon. Eating my way through a neighborhood I've been to so many times was just so cool for so many reasons. Madeline was knowledgeable, friendly, funny, and inspiring! 10/10 recommend.

Exploring downtown Los Angeles with AvitalTours was so much fun! The afternoon was filled delicious food while learning about the diverse history of downtown Los Angeles. I really enjoyed the professional tour and delectable dishes. I highly recommend the tour as a unique and memorable way to explore Los Angeles as a LA native or tourist!

We had an amazing experience. Let me start off by saying I have done this tour twice in the past but my experience this time was great. Jody the new owner was our guide and we all left with a new outlook on the city of Pasadena and its Old Town history. Second, new locations were added since my last tour. OMG! We had Sipping Chocolate & Venezuelan Chicken Empanadas from Amara Cafe, Chicken Wraps & Pickles from Sincerely Syria, Samosa's & Veggie Pakora from Tibet Nepal House, Garlic Naan, Curry Chicken & more from New Delhi Palace, Scones & Two Pots of Delicious Teas from Chado Tea Room. The Chado staff also gave us a complimentary Iced Hibiscus Tea to try. Last but not least we had wonderful Chocolate Candy from Mignon Chocolate. We were even allowed time to shop for goodies in the great Old Town specialty stores. There is plenty of parking in a garage less than five minutes from the starting point. If you are looking for a fun-filled day, reserve your spot with Melting Pot Tours. Wear comfortable shoes as you will be walking for 3.5 to 4 hours. Stay hydrated. Have fun.

She told us the history of the market and the surrounding area and then took us through the market to sample of the top places. My daughter doesn't even like falafel but she loved the one we ate. Jody told us about the vendors and food. We were part of a small group which allowed us to take our time and really feel like locals. I highly recommend their tours if you want to eat, explore and learn about LA. So fun being tourists in our own town. Can't wait to try one of the other tours. Come hungry because you leave stuffed. And these are just a couple of the goodies we tried.

Daisy's LA Black Food Tour is not just about eating (although trust me, you will EAT), it's the whole vibe. From the moment we started, it felt like being part of something special good energy, great people, nonstop laughs, and music that just set the tone the entire time. I even vlogged the whole thing because I already knew it was going to be a day to remember. Every stop was a hit. Marathon Burger? FIREEE. Wangs N Thangs? Don't even get me started. And Earle's On Crenshaw patties?? Yeah... life-changing. By the end of it, we were so full we could barely move, but somehow still didn't want it to end. They also had a variety of lemonades that were super refreshing, plus Black-owned water brands (which I loved seeing it's the details for me). Everything felt intentional, curated, and rooted in culture and community. What really made it special though was the atmosphere. It didn't feel like a "tour" it felt like hanging out with friends, discovering amazing food, and celebrating Black-owned businesses all at once. If you're even THINKING about booking this tour, just do it. Come hungry, bring good energy, and maybe wear stretchy pants because you're going to need them. I'll 1000% be back.

Totally not the guide's fault, but there was a bit of huddling under awnings and leaping over puddles throughout the evening. Also, there were times we wished that the guides waited to tell stories when we were inside, instead of standing in the weather. We were a big group and they split us into two - we started in different places and met up halfway through. Several members of our group had food allergies. The best part of the evening was the diligence our guide took making sure he accommodated the special diet needs, including some bizarre allergies. There were no slip ups or mix ups, and there was a couple of things everyone could eat at each place. The stories we did hear were very interesting, although it was really limited to a couple of anecdotes here and there. There was more socializing and sampling than touring and learning the area's culinary history, which was fine. We felt like the delivery could have been more engaging and the tour more interactive but overall it was really enjoyable. Good variety of different restaurants, and this was one of the only tours we could find that could do an evening slot instead of just daytime. Food was pre-ordered, and all the choices were really good. A great way to learn about the area and try a lot of different things, while spending quality time with groupmates.
