I never been to this kind of buffet before where they only serve country foods like chicken fried steak, mash potatoes, corn bread, fried chicken, and fish. They also had fried rice too for some reason. For the most part the food was average. Nothing really stood out in flavor, but for an all you can eat dinner that's $7.48 (after tax) I'm not complaining. The service was good too. The one waitress they had worked hard to ensure all the tables were cleaned and drinkers were served. Most of the customers that go there are senior citizens. It must be because they have a lot of mushy food like cooked spinach and mash potatoes. I might one day come back here when I'm old, but for now I think I'll try somewhere else new.

    Bland buffet food.

Literally made an account while sitting here in the restaurant just to leave a review. First we come in and pay $18.00 but when sitting down we were asked what he had to drink and then told to go back to the counter to pay an additional $4.00 for drinks. Weird but whatever, I came in specifically for country fried steak and gravy. But the tongs everyone has been touching was literally laying inside of the gravy. I asked a lady if they would bring more gravy out and she said no she just made that and her boss would kill her if she threw it out. Wtf!? This makes me not want to eat anything. Here I am sitting and staring at a plate of bland Mac-N-Cheese, mashed potatoes, and chicken for $22. DO NOT EAT HERE.

Green Tomato Buffet has been around Carrollton for years. Its small but sufficient buffet, cozy dining area and reasonable prices has developed a cult-like following, especially among older adults. Our family visited during a Sunday in March 2010 and found that there was plenty on the buffet that appealed to all our kids ages 6 to 15. However, seating for groups larger than four or five is limited and the setting really is intended for more intimate gatherings. You'll find a much larger buffet at Ryan's or Hong Kong in Carrollton but the prices tend to be a bit higher per person especially if you include drinks. If you like buffets, intimate settings and new places you'll be OK at Green Tomato Buffet.

The vegetables were bland, no seasoning. Some food was hot other cold. Meat was dry and chicken wings were small.

Awkward Welcome, Bland Food, but Attentive Service Rating:…read more (2/5) Review (posted June 22, 2025): I visited Big Bear Asian Buffet at 6 PM on a Sunday evening, hoping for a fresh buffet experience during the dinner rush. Unfortunately, it fell short from the start. When I walked in, I followed the sign that said "Please wait to be seated." I stood there for several minutes as multiple waitresses looked at me but said nothing. It was uncomfortable. Eventually, a woman in a hoodie and sweatsuit appeared, said nothing, waved for me to follow her, and pointed at a table. Still no greeting, no words--just an awkward start to the meal. Once I was seated, one of the original waitresses came over to take my drink order. She ended up being the bright spot of the visit--very attentive and made sure my drink was always topped off. The food, however, didn't live up to expectations. Most of the hot dishes were lukewarm and lacked seasoning. I tried the sushi--five options total--and sadly, all were dry and very bland, like they'd been sitting out for a long time. Not what you'd hope for at prime dinner time. It's worth noting that the place seems to be a hotspot for locals picking up to-go boxes. I watched several people come in, pile food to the very top of their takeout containers, and head out within minutes. So maybe that's their main crowd--but it didn't do much to improve the dine-in experience. Bottom line: The service at the table was solid, but everything else--cold welcome, tired food, and lack of overall hospitality--makes it unlikely I'll return. There are better buffet options in the area where you'll feel like more than just another transaction.

The food itself is pretty good, the chicken and fish are the best around. The hush puppies have a little kick to them, what a delicious little twist. Sweet tea also really good. Actually what isn't? When I walked in, the dining room was packed and I swear, every single person stopped eating to stare at me like I was the entertainment. Super weird moment, but I wasn't about to let that stop me. The lady behind the counter was friendly and came over to help me pretty quick. Not gonna lie, most of the food looked like it had been sitting there all day, but the fried chicken looked fresh, so I took my chances. Two pieces and a hush puppy later (about $5), and honestly? Fire. The chicken was hot, crispy, and seasoned just right. The hush puppy was crunchy outside, soft inside. The food was good, but the vibe? Not so much. I felt like I crashed a family reunion I wasn't invited to. So yeah, I probably won't go back but I can admit, they weren't lying about that "best fried chicken" sign.

I am extremely glad I did today and can't wait to come back again. I understand it is an oyster house, but it is in Carrollton which is not near a large body of water. That being said, I was extraordinarily surprised at how fresh and delicious the raw oysters were and I feel the price is quite fair. Today I enjoyed the Tulane Avenue Shrimp as my entrée from the appetizers menu. The shrimp were tender and I loved all of the flavor. The little crusty pieces of bread that came with it were perfect for soaking up the sauce. It was a very large appetizer. I also had a cup of the gumbo that came with some garlic bread. The gumbo for me was just OK. I enjoyed it and liked the flavor, but it felt more like a savory stew to me than a gumbo. The service was good and friendly. I completely understand the aesthetic inside; however, the wooden benches are not very comfortable. That's just a minor preference for me. Overall this place is a hidden gem.

But it wasn't a problem because the two girls checking us in were fast. They explained that it's three different buffets. This is where I get a little confused. So, you have the Seafood Buffet, the Country Cookin, and one more. Now we chose the Country Cookin, and it was beyond good. I went back for the beef tips and rice twice. The fried chicken was the crispiest I've ever had. The baked chicken was falling from the bones, and I had that with creamed corn and collard greens. Not many people can cook collard greens or creamed corn. I was very impressed. After my first two plates, I started to sample because I wanted to try all the food, and because each item had its own flavor and the way it was supposed to be cooked. I think this lady and I were about to rumble over the hushpuppies. We were both trying to figure out how they were made. I also had a big bowl of green beans, and I was elated to know these were cooked the old-fashioned way. I'm not a big fan of Blackberry Cobbler. But since everything I tried was good, I thought I should try the cobbler, and ten out of ten, it was the best. In overall this is really a good buffet.
