Although I've never actually eaten AT Royal Garden, I've had leftovers many, many times. This place is where my parents tie one on every Friday. You probably know my Mom...she's the loud, red wine-drinking woman who sits at the bar with my Bud-drinking Dad. They don't mean any harm so just try and ignore them if they get out of hand. But often on Sunday visits, I will be given plate fulls of leftovers from Royal Garden...and man is it good. Their ginger noodles and chicken lo-mein is amazing and I'm almost always happy with the general tso chicken. I grew up eating at Chinese food restaurants north of Boston and this place can hold its own. Maybe one day I'll take my Mom up on stopping in for a few mai tai's or beers and actually try out the food. I know it will turn into a debacle as usual though. read more

A very dependable place - you always know what you're getting, which is high-quality Chinese food made from fresh ingredients. Not the most adventurous menu, but some of the offerings are among the best I've had, even from Chinatown restaurants. The General Gau's in particular is unlike any General Gau's I've had - an excellent sauce, not too sweet, with large chunks of fresh white chicken breast (dinner is automatically white meat, but if you're there for lunch ask for white meat). Other standouts are the Chow Foon, Schezwan Crispy Beef, and the veggie dishes. Also an excellent Mai Tai! read more

Came here twice last week and sat at the bar both times. Great drinks and delicious food. The combinations dinners were huge! The bartender was extremely nice and remembered us from our first visit as well as what we had ordered. We will be back! read more

Been going for 15 years, the people are great there, Royal has a repeat cliental that supports it as there are many chinese resterants in the area. The best Mai Tai's anywhere. The food is fresh out of the wok, none of this buffet junk! You will not have a bad meal here, guaranteed. Unlike others Royal will prepare a dish to your desire. read more

I know friends who rave about the Royal Garden and I just don't get it. It's not a terrible restaurant by any means and the bartenders are always attentive and affable. I went there recently after a four year hiatus just to see if I was being unduly critical in my several times eating there in the past. I got the Peking dumplings and they were filled with what looked like ground chicken and not seasoned pork. The ginger sauce was watery. The Kung Pao beef was decent, no complaints there except it could have been spicier for my taste but for most I am sure it was fine. The hot and sour soup was good, not great. Which seems to be my overall opinion of this restaurant. If I could give this 3 1/2 stars I would but it's not four stars in my book so I will stick with three. read more

I have been coming here with my family for over 22 years and was pretty saddened to see they have closed. Not just for the food which was simply the best Chinese food on the North Shore, but for the friendship of the staff as well. There were no better host than Long, Wua, and Paul who always made you feel so welcomed every time you walked in that door. I feel bad for the people who drove by this place and never stopped in, it was a gem of a restaurant if there ever was one. It is not half bad. Decor can be updated a bit but food is cross between old Weylu's and Out of Asia. Not really traditional Polynesian stuff like Kowloon but good. Food was very fresh. PuPu Platter was good with great boneless ribs. Mooshi was OK and definitely have had better. Guy Po Lo Mein was not very traditional and decent. read more

Love Royal Garden, it's been a family favorite since my childhood. I have an aunt and uncle that moved away and their highlight is this restaurant, they always invite everyone out here when they're in town. One thing about this place to note is the atmosphere. It's bright and quiet! Sometimes it gets busy but not always. Not sure why it's not always busy! Staff is so so friendly. My husband and I are always warmly welcomed by the man that is usually the one to seat people. Always remembers us and everyone else, I can tell. Also, ROYAL GARDEN makes the BEST MAI TAIS!! Everything on the menu is fantastic... You just can't go wrong! Price is the same as most other Chinese restaurants too I'd say. read more

Great cuisine! Crab Rangoon, hot and fresh, pork on a stick, tender, chicken wings, crispy. Entree was cooked to perfection. It was also timed nicely to let me finish my appetizer. Lots of it too! I've eaten here fairly regularly for a while now and have never been disappointed. There's never a wait, the staff are attentive and courteous, and the food comes out quickly, correctly, and hot. I go more often for lunch than dinner, so I can tell you the lunch specials go until 330pm, and come with an appetizer and soup. In a word: Horrible! I went to the Royal Garden for the first time yesterday, and ordered an appetizer of egg rolls and a main of shrimp lo mein. The egg roll was greasy and the lo mein was cold and tasteless. The Royal Garden did not even provide any salt, pepper of soy sauce on the table. I did not order a drink because the Royal Garden does not put prices on the drink menu, usually a sign that a place is about to rip off their customers. The only good thing was the pot of hot tea. I will not eat at this place again, and would advise others to give it a wide birth. read more

This place has great food. Although Paul at the bar needs to be fired for talking trash to the customers about the other paul and management. It is like he thinks he owns the place. He sucks up to his regulars at the bar and trashes the people employing him. If they get rid of him they will do better. Wake up management he is killing you. Great bartenders, great drinks, knowledgable sports fans and oh ya, spectacular food! Sit at the bar and have the best mahi Thai ever. Order the walnut shrimp, scallion pancakes and General T's chicken spicy. You will not be disappointed. We have been customers for years of the Lynn Restaurant. We came here to experience the service and support the owner but never again. The food was horrible the lobster was raw the rice was cold and burned and I waited 20 minutes for water. When I ask the waiter for water he got an attitude and asked what my service is not good to which I said no. We ask for the check. I sign it and put 0 for tip because I was going to give him cash just because and he starts yelling. My husband and ai asked him a few times to lower his voice which he replied go tell the owner I dont care he is not going to do anything to me. I go to speak to the owner and he follows us and starts yelling to my embarrassment the owner does nothing and lets us walk out with out saying anything yo him. We have been to green tea in Lynn for many many years and have spent many hundred of dollars there. I will say this never again. I rather drive 20 minutes and eat at a very delicious and friendly establishment and not spend $1 supporting Greet Tea again. read more

One of the better Chinese restaurants on Rt 1. Since I moved a bit further north I don't go here as often as I used too. I still remember the first time I went here. Me & my buddy put in our order. When I asked the bartender to please make sure the Kung Pao was hot, he stated "I make so hot it burn your ass off" I was hooked. Royal garden first opened its doors in the early 90's. Like most Chinese restaurants the upkeep has been less than perfect. But this is still a nice looking restaurant, clean & relatively modern. They have two dinning rooms, a throw back to the days you still had a smoking & a non smoking dinning room. The bar is a decent size, but there's no tables there & the last time I was here they still only had one TV. Strange enough the restrooms are in the basement. The food is much better than average & unlike some other Chinese restaurants its very consistent. I particularly like the crispy fish. Voted best of the area several years in a row for their Mia tia's, I would say they can be a bit on the sour side. If you sit at the bar say hello to the two Paul's, yes they have two bartenders named Paul. This is one of your better choices on Rt 1. However the area around it now looks like war zone. read more

My family use to love going here and were so excited when it reopened but am absolutely disgusted with them. The food was great but the service was horrible. The waitress spent most of her time on her phone. She took forever to take our order then didn't bring us our drinks for 10 min. We were the only ones in the dining room. My order was wrong she gave me beef teriyaki instead of the crab Rangoon when I pointed out the mistake she took the food off my plate and brought me 2 rangoons. If you love Egg Foo Young, this is the place! I've had a really hard time finding good Egg Fu Young in New England. This one is perfect. The brown gravy is perfect and not salty like some are, and the three huge patties would easily feed two people. My husband had the Kung Pao Chicken and it was delicious, too. Excellent!!! This review is for the new ownership/ remodel. The inside décor is very nice, looking and smelling like a brand new restaurant. Everyone was very super friendly, food and drinks (planter's punch, mai tai's) we're excellent. We ordered the sizzling pepper sirloin, hot n sour soup, tangerine beef, general gau's chicken, chicken vegetable soup, white rice, and all was cooked perfectly and super fresh. Highly recommend that you give them a try with this new ownership. Also, I hear they retained the same bartender as the drinks we're phenomenal just like the old days. Give them a try. read more
