Yet speaking to the tech who showed up to my house, there seemed to be some confusion from speaking to the woman who setup the appointment to him showing up on my doorstop. When I spoke to the woman, I informed her of my issue, and asked if they gave free quotes - 'Yep, sure do.' When the tech showed up, I informed him of my symptoms, hoping he is to going to diagnosis the problem. I direct him the furnace and he then states he's going to the van for a price sheet. So, after politely listening to his spill, I inform him I don't want a new furnace, I just want this one fixed. He states it will be $6X.XX to diagnosis. I state that's fine, but in the back of my mind, I'm like I guess that lady was confused over what type of quote I wanted. After he stated it would need a certain part, he informed me - that it could be more than that and he wouldn't know until that part was installed and these furnaces are prone to this and that. I have to admit - I was uneasy since the $6,XXX price list is the first thing we go over and the way he was preparing me for possibly more repairs. So, I decided to get a second opinion. Even the wife thought that was bad business, in regards to a price sheet - asking where I found them. Wasn't able to compare total price quotes, cause by the time another company came out - wife reminded me we had a parts warranty on the HVAC. Was conflicted between 3 or 4 stars, as the Tech was knowledgeable as the diagnosis was the same as the second opinion. He was also professional, as he was wearing those disposable shoes when he showed up at my door. But, alas, I didn't go with them...

Cameron responded to my initial inquiry promptly and provided a formal quote that stood out from the rest. Getting quotes from contractors in Tennessee can be a challenge, but Mid-South made the process straightforward. Their prices were reasonable, and Cameron answered all my questions thoroughly and promptly, so we decided to move forward with the work. I do have to mention that the day before the replacement, one of the crew members came by to inspect the ductwork, which required climbing through my attic. Unfortunately, during that process, he accidentally stepped through the ceiling, creating an 18-inch hole. This incident added a lot of extra work to the project, but Cameron, although not always the most timely communicator, took responsibility. He sourced and paid for the repairs, which included repainting the ceiling and an adjacent wall. I imagine it was an expensive mistake for him and his team. Even though I'll have to hire someone out of pocket to fix the lumpy drywall after two unsuccessful attempts from two different contractors, I'm still giving Mid-South HVAC & Electrical 5 stars, for now. The crew worked efficiently to replace the units, all while respecting our shoeless house policy, which I'm sure was inconvenient for them. The new AC is holding up well through the recent 99-degree heat, and we'll see how the furnace performs this winter. We also have a 1-year labor warranty, which I hope we won't need to use.

They came out even though I was not in their service area, and diagnosed the problem, explained that I would get maybe 2 to 3 more years out of it before it would be best to replace. Unit was 19 years old. Repair was less than 300.00, and I got 4 years out of it before it was time for a replacement. I called them back for that install, great price and 5 year warranty. One day service. Found some duct problems and fixed those too. Cleaned up like they had never been here. Very polite and informative. Highly recommend Mt Juliet Air Care !!!!!

I actually broke down and created a Yelp profile so I could list this guy…read more (I've been meaning to start Yelping because of some food and travel experiences but never got around to it. I've had a nagging feeling of guilt since I told the B&B where I got engaged a year ago I would give them a write up. They're next.) The owner and main tech is a guy named Mike. I have a duplex in East Nashville with two separate A/C systems. He has worked on both of them. Thumbs up all around. Excessive detail below: Mike was referred to me by a guy who owns several rental properties in Nashville. I went to this particular person for a referral because I was worried about getting ripped off and the guy doing the referral not only knows about building repairs but is also notoriously reluctant to spend money and outright on a mission in life to not overspend. When he told me about Mike he warned me that I could find a better price than Mike, but anybody working for less than Mike is light years behind Mike on quality. He said the big companies that advertise on TV offer cheap "inspections" and "tune ups" so they can find/create problems and most of the smaller companies overcharge for the basics. He said Mike gives the best price for doing it RIGHT and has a real old school "good ol' boy" way about protecting his reputation and work quality. When I bought the duplex both sides were trashed and we had to budget our paint and flooring and so on. Mike gave me a full breakdown on the age, current and potential future problems of the two systems, cost estimates, and so on. One side we replaced outright. It was our side because I keep my house freezing and I didn't want electrical bills to destroy me. The previous system on our side was poorly installed (like everything else in the house). When he put the new one in he helped us run a whole new line for the thermostat (which the previous owner had placed above the stove?!) without adding on the extra change for work beyond his bid. On the other side he added a freon boost, checked it up and down, diagnosed a leak, told us what to expect in terms of future costs, and when it was likely to give out. That was 2 years ago. I'M WRITING THIS NOW because what he told us 2 years ago was SPOT on. He's come out twice in two years after warning us we would see him once or twice a year, and the expenses were exactly what he warned us they would be at right around the time he warned us they might come up. After his second visit I called around for quotes to repair what he had just done just to check on him. Not only was he the best price compared to 3 others but two of them tried to hard sell me that the problem wasn't likely fixable and that I should look at a new system... without even seeing it. That system is still running and according to Mike probably has another couple of years left, which is long enough for us to budget in replacing it. He was around our house a lot during the install and became a friend. Guy has a great sense of humor (beware extreme sarcasm and "messing with you" jokes) and was really good about being careful to keep his boots clean and respect our new flooring in the house. He even fixed a dishwasher for us on the last visit after making us promise not to tell anyone because he doesn't do that work anymore... so of course I'm sharing that on Yelp like an a*****e, but only to make the point that the guy is just one of those people who can fix stuff. Anyway, this is massive overkill, but finding someone who does this work is like finding a good auto mechanic. When you find an honest one, they should be rewarded with business.
