I ended up finally booking the garden for a large party this month and was impressed by the experience from start to finish. It's hard to believe that it's entirely volunteer-led! Everyone I met was clearly knowledgeable and passionate about the house, its history, and its preservation. Making a reservation was easy and the coordinators were kind and courteous during the whole process. The day-of place settings were beautiful and the food was some of the best I've had for tea in addition to being generous and variable in servings. There were even some kid-friendly items (including some non-caffeinated beverages) as I had a few young guests in attendance. The tour we had following our tea service was detailed and informative without being boring. The house itself is incredibly preserved and in immaculate condition. It was great learning about the history of the Pardee family and their influence in the Bay Area, California, and beyond. There were some interactive parts too including getting to touch some antique items and listen to some hand-cranked music players. I will undoubtedly be back sometime and highly encourage anyone who likes good food and vibes or learning about local history to book a visit themselves. If you have people from out-of-town visiting, the Pardee Home is an excellent first choice for doing something low-key and private but still touristy.

The last survivor put the home in a trust that is run by a Board of Trustees. It's self-supporting and run by volunteers. The father (made money in the mines, was an eye doctor and a California State Senator) and his son was Governor of California who made the poppy flower CA's state flower; reformed prisons; and established the EBMUD. All furnishings and collections are original and left intact. The tour is about 1.5 hours. Tour was educational and interesting - it covers the entire residence of 3 floors. The tour guide was nice and knowledgeable. She kept the tour intense so you wanted to know more. She gave insights and tibits of the family. All questions were answered. The afternoon tea is delightful. The food is prepared from scratch with lots of love from the volunteers. They were friendly, personable and thoughtful. Since it was the day before Easter, they put some Easter bunny theme to the tea. Just lovely people who made a delcious three course of food assortment. I definitely recommend the tour to learn about Oakland history and to visit one of the last standing historical mansions. Tea was authentic - no crust on the bread :)

They did not give me my laptop and other valuables. Coincidently all my brand name clothes was not given to me either when asked where the rest of my things were I was told it was not in the room. I was not compensated in any way they didn't even try to find my things I lived there for almost 2 years. The employees were okay, but the waiting in line was something else. It's almost similar to the lines at DMV. This time around the line moved quicker. I had to talk to an officer on duty about a crime being committed on one of the streets in Oakland. It was one of those breaking into a vehicle and taking a back pack from the back seat. I took a few photos and showed them to the officer. He is aware of the crime, as several other people reported the crime involving the same vehicle - a black VW. I can only speculate that there is an ongoing investigation occurring. He thanked me for reporting it. If you see this vehicle, do not approach and be safe out there.

They tend to be some of the nicest, down to earth, all around great people, and top notch as far as police officials go. I've dealt with AlCo Sheriffs plenty of times in my life, and have always had the best experiences. Recently, in my area, there has been a lot of mischief going on, especially in terms of car and house burglary. I have seen officers respond super promptly and catch the perpetrators on more than one occasion. If more departments were run like the Alameda County Sheriff's, we'd be a lot better off.

It's a nice building n the exterior that's well maintained…read more There are two towers to this building identified as North & South towers. From the landscape, the rotunda inside to the skywalk 13 floors up it's a beautiful building at face value. There is no public access to most of the building including the skywalk...unless you sneak up somehow. The views from the skywalk are seemingly endless and go from views of San Francisco( the bridge included), through Oakland/ Alameda and the surrounding cities. Most either work in the building or have official business with a federal agency. There is a cafe/cafeteria on the 5th floor of the North tower in addition to a nice outdoor wrap around patio with views. There is a second outdoor space in the other tower as well. The IRS, Coast Guard, Va, Social Security, TIGTA, and the federal court are a few things located in these buildings. The highest traffic tends to be for the IRS walk in office. It's one of the nicest buildings in the downtown area and i'd somehow to get a chance to get inside the rotunda offers the best pictures.

This is a beautiful establishment with two 17-story towers connected by sky bridge located at the 13th and 14th levels. I asked the security guard at the plaza across the street if the building is accessible to the public. He said he doesn't know but flagged down two gentlemen who according to him were federal employees. He asked them and said yes, it's okay to enter the building. I entered the lobby but tough luck, there's officers by the entrance who will stop you right away. I was told that you'll only be allowed if you have an appointment for a hearing. What do you mean? I have to be involved in a lawsuit or be part of a jury before I'm allowed? Just kidding but I do wish I had the chance to see what's inside the buildings and more so, to be able to walk that connecting bridge. Oh well, at least I tried.
