Went here on Tuesday to take wire in. The process was pretty easy. They have some cool stuff up front and the people working there where pretty chill. There scale was correct too. At least for my 300 pound run. Tuff area though, saw a bunch of cops on the way in and lots of homeless around. It's east oakland not somewhere I go alot but still got paid. read more

This is by far the best recycling center. Today was my first time at this one and I will never go to another place. You pull up, they empty your recycles into bins FOR YOU and then take them to the scale. The process is quick and painless. Adam at the weigh station gets you in and out with an awesome attitude. Aaron Metals runs a tight ship. With all those grocery store parking lot recycling centers closing this Oakland firm is the best place. Always was great but not as convenient as some of those store sites. You should drive carefully in getting there and you'll find the location itself is well run and safe. Safer than many of those former grocery store locations because Aarons doesn't allow people to hang out or loiter. Also it has the best prices paid for aluminum cans which more than compensates for the extra gas to drive there. Week days never seem to be very busy so you can get in and out within 15 minutes. Only wish they'd take bottles, but I understand they do so at their Hayward location. I used to find coupons offering a extra 10 cents a pound, but I've been told they no longer issue such coupons. For better or for worse, we drink a lot of canned fizzy water. Fortunately we have the good sense to save our cans to recoup the CRV. Please note this location only accepts cans, not bottles or plastic. Aaron metals is historically busy on the weekends but not unmanageable and very well organized by their team of employees. Sure - now I'm $4 richer! This place was buzzing with contractors and cars and trucks going in, dropping off loads, and coming out with green, green, green! It was intimidating and chaotic for a first timer, but there's plenty of staff to guide you and don't be surprised if you leave inspired to buy a used pick up and circle your 'hood looking for scrap metal to sell. read more

My family and I have been coming to Aaron Metals for our can/bottle recycling needs for over 20 years. We've always gotten a good amount of money for our return and the speed of service is phenomenal. It can get pretty packed, though. And parking is minimal with 10-20 slots inside. The work areas have always been clean when I have come here, and they guarantee to pay the best. It can get a bit noisy as the machines crush the cans, the workers move loads around, or or when the train goes by, but you can still hear what the person next to you is saying, at certain times. This place is located in the ghetto and the homeless are frequent supporters of the business, but the workers do try to get them to stop their panhandling. My husband and I go to Aaron's all the time they pay the best however the owner who is a white man constantly harasses my husband my husband is a welder who is a member of the union yet every time we go the owner asked my husband for his union card even though he's already in the system and has been in the system for over year he is always asking forall kinds of documentation yet the white owner never bothers his own people he harasses us every time I wish there was other places that paid as much as Aaron so we wouldnt have to deal with this every time we go there where a regular customer however the harassment is very uncomfortable . I always go to aarons metal because they pay well and are the FASTEST. I bring in copper wire 3 times a year in macro bin used to haul wine grapes. There is approx 800 lbs in each bin and aarons metals has forklift that is not only equiped with adjustable hyrdaulic fork spreaders, they also have a rotator on them. With ease, the forklift adjusted the forks to fit my abnormal size container and then "spilled" the copper wire into one of their wheeled carts ready for the scale. I got a couple of big bags full of beer cans in the kitchen. I refer to them as my "retirement fund". The last time I went to this wonderfully-named place I took away $80. Yes, it is in a part of Oakland that I tend to avoid, be aware of that, but if you have more than ten pounds of aluminum cans (buurrrp!) you can print out a coupon from the website and get a bonus. This place is hectic but they have a experienced staff who will guide you through the process. It's very near to 105th and San Leandro Ave, but the part where San Leandro Ave goes underground (I got lost the first time I tried to go there) Your best bet is to follow the directions from the website! They also take other metals, but I haven't gone that route. I have heard the market for recycled stuff has flattened out, but any beer cans have CRV, and are still a good investment.
