So, Green Land has a high reputation for Middle Eastern food as well as their stellar line of spices sold in many Middle Eastern groceries (which I use a lot in my own cooking and are the best I've yet found). In Tampa, Green Land has two locations: this one and a larger one which seems "fancier" as well. This one worked for lunch as it was next door to a Middle Eastern grocer we wanted to shop at and wasn't busy. The interior is small but nicely decorated with murals of locations in the Middle East as well as Ramadan decorations--electric lights in the shape of crescent moons in example, which since it's not quite yet Ramadan I assume get left up year-round here. Or, perhaps were put up slightly early? They're pretty in any case. There was however no one at the counter when we came in. There's a bell to ring for service so we did and a lady appeared from the back. We ordered quickly and then waited . . . and waited . . . and waited. A man came to get a very large take-away catering order and another lady came to help him but she seemed to only speak Arabic and he didn't, he looks at me, I explain I can speak Turkish but not much Arabic. Finally the first lady appears and helps with this huge order, which is ready to go but apparently had several problems with it. While that's being solved apparently all else is on pause here. It was nearly an hour before our food arrived. Now, it was all absolutely excellent especially the meze sampler but most items on that were cold and should have been easy to plate and get out quickly. Again, it was good food--their hummus especially was wonderful. But the restaurant seemed--at least today--disorganized and understaffed, though granted this was at lunch not dinner so maybe that is part of the reason. I also didn't like how the customer with the large catering order seemed unhappy with his order. read more

I've taken food to go from here quite a few times. It has always been delicious! I love how tender the meat is, lamb or chicken, completely falls off the bone. The rice is seasoned well and the meat usually comes with some kind of sauce that goes well with it. The food sometimes takes a while to be ready but it's good so I don't mind waiting. Definitely a family friendly spot there's always people dining inside when I go. read more

We gathered here one Thursday night around 5:30 pm before an event at a nearby church. There were 8 of us and the restaurant is clearly not used to a large party like us dining in but they did a GREAT job getting the food out to us in a timely manner and it all tasted fantastic. I loved the labaneh, some of the BEST I have ever had in my life. The pita that accompanies it is so fresh, so soft, that you just want to keep eating more and more. The hummus is made fresh at GreenLand and it is amazing. Our party agreed that this was a GEM of a find in Temple Terrace. The Chicken Shawarma plate was ordered by 4 of the 8 of us and it was raved about for days and days. Some of the best Mediterranean food we have ever enjoyed. This place was somewhere I was recommended over and over... and I did not go for some time! Now that I've went, it's actually part of my weekly order! I order the chicken shawarma platter or the lamb. The sauce is absolutely to die for, and the shawarma is both juicy and well seasoned. When I had issues I've called in, and found no issues there. The salad is also something I would recommend to all (and as someone who's not a fan of the salad, that's rare! My one complaint is the price. It has gone up twice, and I'm thinking about ordering it less, and less. The food is amazing, we discovered this place a few years ago and since then we moved further away, but still try to return every few months because it is so good. My husband is obsessed with the falafals and has not found anything in Tampa Bay on par with them. In addition to that he is a fan of the chicken schwarma. Their pita, hummus and rice are also great. Our first time there and we are over joyed with the experience. The restaurant is pleasant and the food was delicious. We are enjoying our 7th year anniversary and decided to share a platter and an appetizer. There was plenty enough for the both of us. I ordered a Chicken Shawarma Combo to see how well they compared to other restaurants in the area and they did not disappoint. The actual food was of the right portion: just enough to satisfy but not too much to stuff yourself silly. The chicken was juicy, the bread had a little crunch to it, and the fries had great seasoning on them. The waitress was very nice and service was quick. The store is also very clean, maybe the cleanest of the Arabic restaurants I have been to so far, though none of them have been dirty by any means. I would recommend! read more

The waitress got our platter order wrong and gave us a sandwich instead (which she fixed). When we asked for a cup of water, she literally gave us an empty cup. Tasty Mediterranean food. This review is for take out. It appears that you can dine in again, but no one was eating in the restaurant when I was there. I called ahead and ordered. I was told that the food would be ready in 10 minutes, but I asked that they prepare it in 30 minutes as I don't live nearby. There was a bit of a language barrier, but it wasn't insurmountable. When I arrived, there was a woman ahead of me. She was picking up for friends, and the cashier accidentally had her pay for my order, but when I went up, she realized the mistake. Fortunately, I had exact cash in my wallet, as it appeared that the cashier did not know how to give refunds. (It looked like they lost the other order, whoops!). The food was not packed well. They use those flimsy Styrofoam clamshells, and the cashier put them in too high a tower in the plastic bags. As a result, everything tipped over and spilled inside the plastic bag. Thankfully, the bags kept the food from spilling all over my car, but it was all a less-than-appealing mess when I opened up the bags. I ordered a mixed grill plate, a half order of the daily special, a small babaganoush, a side of pickles, and the kids meal with chicken tenders. The mixed grill plate was pretty good, although my son thought it was too spicy (mind you, he's 5 and was looking for an excuse to eat some of his sister's chicken tenders). The lamb was a little dry. The daily special was lamb shank and rice. The lamb was wonderfully tender and mild tasting. The rice that came with the daily special was really delicious (whereas the rice with the grilled meats was rather tasteless). I was given the choice between yogurt and salad, and I chose salad. The salad was rather anemic and needed more acid (I should have gone with the yogurt). The babaganoush was good, but it was also packed in a Styrofoam clamshell, and about 30% spilled all over the napkins and utensils when the bag tipped over. The pickles were excellent, perfectly spicy and acidic. The kids meal consisted of pale frozen chicken tenders and tasty looking french fries. It served the purpose of letting my kids avoid adventurous food, but it looked pretty blah to me. Overall, I enjoyed the food, but I think I prefer Petra (better salad and pickles, equally good lamb and grilled meats), and there is a Petra much closer to where I live. read more

The food arrived quite quickly and I was amazed by how fresh the food was. The fries were still very crispy. I ordered meat shawarma platter and the flavor was really really good. The amount of meat, however, was quite little. They add lots of other sides to compensate, but I do wish there was more meat. My husband ordered the rice and lamb plate and was also very pleased with the food. From all places I ordered shawarma, I think that this restaurant also has the best garlic sauce. I ordered Mancef which was not the special of the day at this location, but it was the special of the day at that 56 street location however, they did accommodate my order because DoorDash would not deliver from the 56 street location. The Ramadan month is a fasting month according the observance of Quran. It usually last 30 or 29 days due to the visual sightings of the crescent moon. During this month, the Muslim eats only after sunset. Greenland Restaurant during this month serves the special buffet after 8:30 pm. The restaurant will not start the buffet until sunset per the observance. The buffet certainly is great since many of the believers have been fasting for the daytime. The restaurant will fill up quickly and please come 15 minutes early to get a seat. Tonight the buffet include two different hummus, lentil soup, tomato base soup with Arabian spice, Arabian salad, bidet, fruit salad, yellow rice, grill chicken, roasted whole lamb and more. Yum. Got to try it before is over. The lamb is certainly my favor. The lamb meat is well prepared and you cannot smell the lamb smell. The season is will balance. Greenland Restaurant serves really food lunch and dinner platters, my go-to is the Mixed Grill Platter which comes with a variety of chicken and beef kebabs. I grew up in Dubai, so my standards for Mediterranean food are pretty high, and I must say that for the price and the hospitality, this restaurant is absolutely amazing!! Their hummus and garlic sauce is by far the best I've found, and their khubbus (Arabic bread) tastes fresh. OK. So we drove from Gainesville (2 hours) and spent some time at the zoo with our kid. We told ourselves what would be a good lunch /early dinner after a long tiring day than mixed grill at a middle Easter restaurant. We arrive there and unfortunately many things were very disappointing 1- They had two servers in the restaurant but the service was very poor. Tables were left dirty the whole time . The server didn't even offer a cup of water ( I guess u have to pay for water here). 2- The mixed grill was salt less and spineless. As far as it gets from authentic. The kofta meat was dry with no Kosta spices noted. The chicken Tawook was basically dry chicken with curry . They serve yellow rice with the grill which is surprising. The arayes sandwitch was only meat and bread ( didn't notice any garlic, pomegranate concentrate or any arayes specific spices. The meat was bland 3- The Hummus was actually good and authentic 4- after all this poor service ( the server actually forgot my order and had to come again and ask me about what my order was) after all of this, they charge 15% mandatory "service fees" for me, my wife and our 3 year old saying that this is house policy! The food is great, they give good portions, it's inexpensive and my order is always ready in like 10 minutes. This is my favorite mediterranean place in the area and there are quite a few. I've tried probably 6 or 7 other restaurants in the immediate area but I've eaten at Green Land dozens of times. Be aware the only drawback is that they regularly forget small bits of your order. Stuff like sides or hot sauce and they occasionally forget to put pita in your hummus order. This is not a big deal at all and they are always friendly and quick about correcting it. Mixed Vegetable Soup: Frozen grocery store vegetables in flavorless water. Shishkebab Samwich: Meat onions and tomatoes. Sort of dry and underwhelming. House salad: Looked gross. didn't even try it. The middle eastern community is strong around the USF area. Mays alreem is right across the road to this hole in the wall and it's also next to a hookah lounge. There isn't a host and you order at the cashier where they have a menu. The service was different, but friendly. Make sure to request water at the cashier because they won't assume to give it to you. The food was amazing. You could eat here for 5 dollars if you go for a shwarma wrap(fresh and tasty), which my friend ordered. I followed previous yelpers and went with the kafta kabob, a ground beef/lamb dish. Came with pita and hummus. The meat was seasoned really well. You can wrap the meat with the pita, rice and/or veggies which were very fresh. The portion was so huge my friend helped me and I still had enough to box. It made a great snack the day after.
