I came here cus zaky Zak's was closed til 3. I fell in love with Mediterranean food recently, although I always loved Greek and Italian. Middle Eastern food was mysterious and I was intimidated. My forked is Lebanese and Emirate ( Emirates) and she recently prepared a lunch for me that blew my mind and now I'm hooked! Searching all the Tampa spots for the best. This meal was very delicious and they had 3 of the dishes she made for me so I ordered two and tried something new. Service was kind, gentle and generous. As a Turkish native, and with a husband who has experienced the food in Türkiye firsthand, we were thrilled to find a place in Tampa offering a traditional Turkish breakfast spread. Angora did not disappoint! We arrived around noon on a Sunday and were seated quickly. We ordered the Breakfast for 2 and, coming hungry after the gym, we added a Lahmacun just in case. The breakfast spread was incredible. The cheeses, tomatoes, and cucumbers were fresh and flavorful, and the baked breads were delicious. The breakfast also comes with a full pot of Turkish tea (enough to fill our glasses 6+ times!). For the egg dish, we chose the Menemen, and it was genuinely as good as what I make at home--which is saying a lot. We ended up taking more than half the Lahmacun home because the portions were so generous, but it was baked to perfection. My friend and I decided on this restaurant because it had such great reviews and we wanted something new as we are about an hour away and was just in town shopping.. As we walked in, we could tell that this was an authentic restaurant because of the decorations, the atmosphere, and the staff. We were definitely impressed by the amount of guests who were there and we were confident in our choice as we sat down. We were directed to a table and then were asked to wait while they wiped it down, no biggie, I appreciated the heads up. We were approached and our drink orders were taken promptly. We were impressed by the selections on the menu and actually had a hard time deciding because so many things look good and we were starving. We finally decided on several things, which was way too much for the two of us. I've included pictures below of the lentil soup, the cheese straws, the chicken Alana, and the Turkish tortellini with cream sauce. I personally thought the lentil soup was the best thing I had. The cheese straws were the second best. The other food belonged to my friend which she said was good. We each took our food home and plan on eating the leftovers so it must've been good. A couple of downsides, one of which couldn't be helped on their part. The first was there was a leak because of heavy rain storm and they promptly move us to a table with profuse apologies and wouldn't even let us move our own stuff. So actually, I guess that's a good thing. The second downside is that we had to wait a long time to get our check and my friend actually had to get up to get boxes herself, and we never got a refill of water. Celebrated my pre-birthday tonight at Angora with some family and close friends. It was a purely wonderful experience! I made a last-minute decision to have dinner at Angora and it was worth it.. from the greeting to the meals being delivered the service was very intentional. For the location the area had pretty good ambience which I didn't expect. The menu is Mediterranean, however, leaning more towards Turkish food. I'd like to start this by saying I have had flavorful Mediterranean food before this did not hit the spot at all. The dishes lacked spice my Mediterranean ravioli came out late and lack flavor. The meat on the inside of the little pockets was good, but it just tasted like bland dough with little meatballs on the inside that I got after the person I was with had already finished half of their chicken, Gyro (because they forgot to cook mine). Angora open not long ago. The restaurant is well furnished with nicer furniture. The kitchen is viewable from dining room. The menu is about 4 pages. For the drink I recommend the Turkish sprite. My friend said the taste is different. We got the kibbeh to start. This is a fried stuff meat in the dough. I think the coating is a bit hard. We also got grape leaves stuff with the rice and pine nut. I also think this item is just average. For main entrees. We got the mixed grill for two and the chef special mixed grill. Since we have 7 people in the group, I think the portion will be enough for all of us. These two items are similar except the chef special come with fresh dough bake in oven with the mixed grill protein in the cover dough. It look spectacular when it open up. My hubby told me about this place when we were wondering where to go for Dinner so We went along with our 12 yr old son and guest from overseas. The place is nice and clean and the server ( Anas) was so welcoming and extremely helpful. I wanted a sampler of hot appetizers, he made it happen, then we got the cold appetizer sampler. My husband ordered a pizza like appetizer and for the main meal we order the fest for 4 that had a bed of rice and all sit of meats on top all covered with the piping hot Turkish bread, Anas cut it out and the steam just came out with heavenly smells. You can watch the chefs make your salads, chopping the vegetables to order right in front of you. The location is impeccably convenient, right by USF. Prices are in line with the quality and portion of food, which to me is a value. You can go hard and order huge platters or simply order a wrap or lunch portion. It's up to you. While I've had Turkish kabab, in all our travels, we've just never come across an authentic Turkish restaurant that doesn't try to just placate the American palate. The food here isn't just a game changer for the epicurean, it's life changing. We started with the Ezme (think olive tapenade and salsa had a baby but a spicey baby) accompanied by their "baloon bread", heavenly. I ordered chef's casserole w/lamb (I know that sounds seriously pedestrian but I'm sure it's just the translation so bear with me.), The lamb was succulent, bathed in tomato based bell pepper stew with mushroom and it was divine! The rice to soak up the casserole was cooked to perfection, something that Bobby Flay himself could learn from. My husband ordered the Manti, essentially carefully crafted tiny tortellini (although menu says ravioli, you would recognize it as more like tortellini) with a light beef filling and a funky yogurt sauce that I used my freshly baked "balloon bread" with black and natural sesame to mop up what little he left behind. If you are looking for a carb holiday, spend it here on the bread! They make their version of a deep dish pizza with it and I'm sure it's just as amazing. The service was great, lovely people, and prices oh so reasonable for the quality and quantity of such authentic food. Best bread I've had in 10 years, even better than Italy. I was just there this past weekend trying out there brunch deal. Every Saturday and Sunday they do a breakfast deal from 11am-3pm. $89.99 for 4 people or $39.99 for 2! Overall the service, presentation and quality of food was 10/10. We did have a group of 4 and I never felt like I was waiting for service. The bread was so fresh. Anytime our bread was getting low they brought us new fresh ones. The waitress was very nice. We sat the moment we walked in even without having a reservation. We got a falafel sandwich and a gyro sandwich X2 each - they were huge and mostly a thick soggy bun that the hummus had soaked into. The falafels were soggy. The cheese cigars were soggy. There is see what the food would be like as we are not very experienced with Turkish food. It is situated in a strip mall that has very good parking and well lit. The inside of the restaurant is extremely clean and inviting. Our waiter greeted us warmly gave us a seat, and took our order immediately. Our food was simply amazing. We had the sultans platter and the cheese cigars and the pepperoni pride. Each dish was better than the next. The food was simply amazing and cannot really say more about it. Stopped in here for a casual dinner with colleagues while at a conference nearby. It's quite unassuming, since it's in a strip mall not too far from the USF campus. But surprisingly, the food is great! It's a casual atmosphere, though your waiter will come and take your order once you're seated. We started with a mixed cold appetizers that featured fresh hummus, babaghanoush, two more kinds of eggplant dip (sauced and salad -- one of which was spicy), and haydari (a yogurt dip). Everything was fresh and delicious, and served with warm pita strips on the side. We also ordered the calamari, which came out nice and hot, but there wasn't much seasoning in the batter. I enjoyed it with the eggplant dip. For my main, I got the shrimp casserole that came with a side of rice which had some vermicelli mixed in. The shrimp came in a tomato sauce with peppers, which with the rice had a flavor similar to Spanish Rice. It was all very filling! Some of my colleagues ordered the large meat platter "Sultan's Plate" with lamb, beef, chicken and meatballs. It all looks amazing! Although I was too full for dessert, they had it in a display case off to the side. There was rice pudding and small Baklava. All in all, it was a great spot in an unlikely place. First visit.... so far, so good. The hummus was creamy and delicious. The bread was excellent, not like pita I am accustomed to in other Mediterranean restaurants, but just as good. My co-worker had a gyro. I had the pide, both were delicious. Servings were very generous... so much so that my wife loved the leftover pide. We got three meals out of one order. I'm born and raised in the middle-east ( Oman) and I've lived there for almost 25 years. Some of my most favorite cuisines apart from Indian food has always been Turkish food. Having lived in Tampa for the past 8 years, I can most assuredly say that this place has some of the best authentic Turkish food I have ever tasted in Tampa! We went here twice and have tried their Lahmacun, hummus, bean salad, mixed plate gyro, cheese pie, chicken gyro wraps, manti and Adana kebob ( lamb). I wouldn't order Manti again as I only wanted to try it because of my love of dumplings in general. The Manti sauce was great but there was barely any filling. Apart from that, everything has been absolutely flavorful and amazing! The service has been really great. They have TVs on that shows how food is cooked in Turkey and I love watching that. Give this place a try and you will not be disappointed! If you are new to Turkish food, try the Lahmacun or the pies, it's pretty delicious! My go to for wraps is the chicken gyro! read more
