Zaky Zak's had exactly what I was looking for. I didn't want much for dinner and had a taste for baba ganoosh. This is a smoky egg plant dip with olive oil, paprika, and tomato. You eat it with pita. This is a quick spot for it with an amazing A/C and a good amount of tables and chairs. My order was given to me right away, & from what it appears the pita bread is baked in house. Their baba ganoosh was very tasty and a good size amount that I couldn't finish it. I'm looking forward to eating it for leftovers tomorrow. Super friendly and quick service too. Located in a shopping center on Fowler ave just between the dead University Mall and USF, Zaky Zak's is a hidden gem. I was in the mood for a good pita and I found one of the best here. I would describe this as a quick serve/takeout restaurant. The staff is attentive and welcoming. The restaurant is noticeably very clean and spotless. You walk up to the counter and order your food Chipotle style, choosing a protein and type of entree, then selecting fresh toppings. The toppings are clearly fresh. The shawarma looks great as you can see it being cooked behind the counter. We ordered a pita and a saj. Both were excellent but the saj was the favorite. It's wrapped like a burrito and then browned on a griddle. The spicy pepper topping was excellent. I asked for mine extra spicy and my wife asked for hers with little spice and it turned out exactly as we asked. As we were eating I think we must have repeated the phrase "this is so good" about 10 times. Overall, this is an excellent restaurant to eat shawarma. The meal is so satisfying you will want to eat it again. I think the quick service style where you choose your toppings and see all fresh ingredients in front of you is perfect for what they are offering. I will be returning. read more

The restaurant is clean & the workers were very pleasant. I ordered a chicken shawarma pita. I excitedly got it topped with cabbage, tomato, sumac onions, pickles, tehina, & amba. I went in to get a falafel wrap on pita bread, I was impressed with the fast service, the falafels were perfect and cooked to order, the french fries were fresh and hot. I recently visited Zaky Zaks and while I have to say the food was fresh and overall really good, I couldn't help but feel a bit disappointed by the pricing. They charge an extra $3.99 just to substitute rice for fries, which seems excessive... especially considering fries typically cost less to make. As much as I'd love to keep coming back for the food, it just doesn't sit right with me to pay that much for a simple substitution based on preference. Because of that, I'm giving them 3 stars. Great taste, but the upcharge left a bad taste in my wallet. read more

I had high hopes for some really good shawarma today... and have wanted to go to Zaky Zaks for while now. The reviews have been decent, and the pictures look good. Arrived, ordered a Chicken Shawarma plate with everything but Baba Ghanoush, as I wanted to order a side of that. The fries have looked awesome also... so ordered that too. Wasn't paying attention... and the bill came to $27.00 not including the tip. Lol... Ok. Well... what the heck, right? I figured a good lunch would be worth it. Interestingly, they shave the shawarma with a large handheld electric meat shaver... and it is set to a very thin setting. Probably makes for a much more precise serving than cutting by hand as is tradition (and more profit that way)! I got what may have been 4oz of thinly shaved chicken... no real chew, or texture.. and not as much as flavor as I had hoped either. The hummus and pickled veggies were good... and the very thin layer of chicken on top made it look pretty substantial. But not really impressed.. I have had tastier shawarma at mall kiosks. The Pita I received was very thick, and soft... but not hot, barely warm... and not much flavor there. The Baba Ganoush was ok... nice serving, and great presentation. Taste was good except for what seem to some sort of smoke flavor enhancer, or something that made that delicious eggplant taste sort of artificial. I make Baba Ganoush at home, and yes... the recipe calls to get the eggplant really well roasted, (charring the skin which is removed before preparing the dish) which does give a wonderful smokey flavor. But this was just a little off for me. Just tasted like burnt plastic or something. The fries were ultra crispy, and delicious. And a decent serving for the price. The bottled Tea was good... lol. This place is really excellent for Middle Eastern food! I decided to get the Falafel Pita and it was delicious! Loved the freshness of the toppings and vegetables. The highlight was definitely the falafel itself. Nice and crispy on the outside while staying tender on the inside. I love the vegetal flavor of it. The fries were also delicious. Hot and crispy on the outside while soft and tender on the inside. This place makes for a great meal! Service can be a little slow at times depending on time of day or number of orders. We were headed out of town on a road trip, but we needed some lunch before we rolled. We were both craving shawarma. I saw this spot pop up on a buddies feed, so we decided to check it out. I am glad we did, it was excellent. We walked in and we were greeted immediately. We reviewed the menu and they explained their offerings. They had a bowl, a wrap, and a pita. They had a selection of proteins, a bunch of toppings, and a good selection of sauces. My buddy rolled with the beef saj and I rolled with mixed grill bowl. The saj was like a tortilla, but a bit more stretchy. The mixed grill had chicken and beef shawarma along with all their toppings and sauces. We were interested in trying the falafel and they made a couple patties for us to try. We grabbed a seat after our food was made. It looked amazing and tasted just as good. The falafel had great flavor, good texture, and wasn't dry. We loved it. My mixed grill bowl was perfect. It had an amazing mix of flavors and textures. The sauces made it extremely flavorful. My buddy enjoyed his saj. It was a lot less messy than a pita and was super tasty. Overall, we really enjoyed our lunch. The food was exceptional and the folks serving it were really nice. I always come back to this location when I'm craving shawarma. The Sajj bread is so soft and the shawarma taste so good. The toppings are also very fresh! This place is the jam. We were looking for a quick k place for lunch, and I remembered this was new-ish in this plaza. It was sooooo good. We got both a chicken and a steak bowl. We added all of the toppings, and they were all amazing. The s'kug is pretty spicy, so be prepared. They only had rice today, but it was also really good. Hubs got the tahini sauce, and I got the garlic sauce. We even had enough to bring home and eat the rest for dinner. Service was great. The gentleman answered a few questions and was very friendly. Can't ask for much more! Stopped after busch gardens on my 7k mile 24 city food trip for a "snack." And this is where i landed. Super quality. Friendly counter service made to order chicken bowl shaved thinly right off the spinner. Yellow rice, red cabbage, fresh jalapeño, sumac onions, shatta, cucumber, and hummus! everything blended nicely. The shatta was the star. Nice touch to add a schmear of hummus on side of bowl. My only feedback is consider serving with a few triangles of pita to get the residual sauces and whatnot. read more

The post I gave wasn't bad or good, I simply said that this place was ok and if I am in the area again and feeling like stopping I just might. I went here the week they opened, and I purchased the chicken bowl. One of the owners/investors greeted me and I commented on the decor of the place, in reference to what they had on the wall which I thought was cool. The food was not bad but it wasn't popping or making me want to drive over there with a quickness. First time coming in and I'm glad I stopped in! The front manager (didn't catch his name) was extremely kind and patient while going over the the menu. The establishment was extremely clean, as well as the topping/kitchen prep areas (bathroom was very clean, too!). I ordered a steak bowl with a couscous base, cabbage, cucumber, tomato, onions, tahini sauce, lettuce, hummus, and some spicy stuff to mix the hummus with (think, like a Chipotle bowl set up...you pick your base, meats, and toppings in a similar way). I also ordered a caramel cashew baklava and got all of it to go. The food was delicious, and so was the baklava. My only reservation is that I'm not entirely sure that I received the correct baklava because it just tasted like a classic baklava to me (either way, the baklava was very tasty). WOW, I cannot believe I have not reviewed Zaky Zak's yet. This place is a weekday lunch/dinner STAPLE in our household. Anytime we want a delicious casual dinner, we pick it up. First of all, shawarma isn't really even one of our top choices of food, but it is SO good here. The best shawarma I've ever had. And there are so many different toppings, sauces, sides etc. You really can't go wrong. Everything feels and tastes so fresh - you can't help but feel healthy after eating this. The service is also very fast, as you order at the counter then pay at the register. We will continue to come here at least once a week while we live in the area. It cannot be beat! read more
