I've never had such a smooth moving experience! I've had issues with movers I've used in the past, but Green City went above and beyond to provide a good moving experience. From the start, they gave me the most competitive quote of any moving company I asked, and it came with lots of packing materials that they dropped off at my apartment almost instantaneously. The movers that we had went at a fine pace while taking care of our furniture with extreme care and navigating challenges as they arose. There were zero hidden fees - they came with all of the packing blankets, shrink wrap, tape, etc. that they needed, despite us having a ton of stuff. !!!HIDDEN FEES!!! There was a large gap of miscommunication with these guys. First, I was quoted an amount per hour with 3 hour minimum plus 1 hour travel for 4 guys. I was estimating this cost based on how long it took myself and 3 others to move in given a 4 floor walk up, which was 2 hours. I also took into consideration another 2.5 hours. 30 mins for travel time to the other neighborhood and 2 for moving up 4 floors at new place. This is up to about $688. The men show up and want to charge 2 hour travel fee because there was traffic (which originally was understood at 1 hour). $15 for the toll, $5 fuel charge per mile and tax on top. Plus, they estimated it would cost about $100 for boxes for my mirror & other things that I didn't want boxed, which I insisted be wrapped in a blanket if need be. The guys estimated in total my move would be $1200 and would take 8 hours. This was definitely double what I wanted to pay and much longer than I would anticipate, so I cancelled last minute and thankfully got a hold of another company. I have no doubt the movers would have been great, but the one star is primarily for not setting the expectation for the customer! Totally off-putting. It would have been all avoidable if someone came and gave me a quote in person instead of getting a rough quote over the phone and sending a vague confirmation email including none of the extra fees that were presented day of move besides the mentioning of a small fee for moving supplies. To me, $100 in boxes is not a small fee. Plus, I waited 1 hour later than told, day of move, because of traffic with no one from the company calling to tell me they were running late. Obviously it's New York and I understand there is traffic but just pick up the phone and call! Customer service and setting expectations for the customer is everything in this city. It's too competitive not to have a hold on that part of your business. read more

What a disaster. Now, I'll admit, we had a piano to move. So they said they were going to send four guys. The four guys show up and start taking our things out. They're Russian. They don't realize they my wife speaks Russian, so she hears and understands when they call her a bitch in Russian. In getting the piano up a flight of stairs, they managed to do what I expect will be over $1000 worth of damage to our new apartment. Scraping the walls, gouging the tile, and denting the wood. The foreman spent approximately 60 minutes of the three hours that they were contracted for pontificating on how we were spending too much money on rent, and that he could get us a much better apartment without all "these black people" around. He then made a big deal about how nice he was, since he brought the "white people truck," the one with the photos of a white couple on the side. During the process, they demanded that half of the money be paid in cash, and that we pay for four and a half hours of their time, saying that it was going to take them that long. (Mind you, again, the foreman was just sitting there, mouthing off to us.) Then, when the three hours (plus one hour of travel time) were up and they were done, they left without refunding us the money for the half-hour of difference. And when I called the office, they refused to refund my credit card. So, yeah. If you like being called a bitch, being pontificated at about the superiority of the white race, like your apartment damaged, and like being swindled...sure, use these guys. read more

I was thoroughly impressed by how smooth my move went on Friday 5/12. I moved from a pokey little apartment on a 5th floor walk up to a 1 bedroom in Brooklyn. Earl and the guys who arrived on time were polite, professional and efficient. I had a large sectional couch that needed to get down a tricky internal spiral staircase and they took the time needed to assess the situation and try multiple methods before finally succeeding without any damage to the walls or couch itself. Before the move I honestly thought it might have had to stay up there! Cosby who I dealt with to get the very competitive online quote and prep for the move was also fantastic, very helpful, super responsive and accommodating. Norman's guys moved us from our 1br in fort green to our new duplex in bed stuy, one truck and 4 movers, took 6 hours to complete the move of LOTS of stuff. It went smoothly, the guys came exactly on time, took care with my belongings, and completed the job in less time than the original estimate. I will be using them again! read more

Very Bad Experience - there was supposed to be 4 guys but they never found a parking spot? so 1 stayed in the truck the whole time, 3 of them came up to the apt w/o supplies, then after an hour, 2 of the guys disappeared for over an hour....so I ended up packing what I could with the 1 guy left. After searching outside the bldg for them and trying to call them, the main guy said they would only charge us for 10 hours. Once we moved into the new place and after they broke a lamp, the main guy said he never said 10 hours and wanted to charge us well past that and argued with me. He then told my husband we needed to pay in CASH and asked him to go to the atm??!! Super Shady and very bad experience. read more

Green City offered us great service from the moment we booked our move from Queens to CT until it was completed. It was a long day, but it went smoothly. John in Sales stayed in touch with us even after we had to change moving dates several times. Leo and his team are amazing. In addition to being expert packers and organizers, they were efficient and great to work with. They communicated what they were doing, notified us of any issues and were friendly and professional. They ran 20 minutes late, and we appreciated the pro-active call to let us know - so we were ok . They really understand quality customer service as well as how to pack a truck!! . We had a heavy load, but our belongings arrived in good condition and were placed where we wanted. Rates are fair and service is great. Highly recommend and I would use them again - but hope I never have to move again for a long, long time! . read more

These guys showed up early and got right to work. If you want a move without hiccups I'd highly recommend Green City. And ask if Earl is available. I've moved several times with various moving companies and Earl is by far the best moving supervisor I've dealt with... he gets the job done. TIP: Consolidate your move items into a central area of your apt/home and have a parking spot large enough to fit the moving truck on both ends of your move. I had a great experience with this guys. First, the guys who runs the company Norman is very personable, great attitude and very easy to talk to. Had to move from the city to Westchester area, my entire apartment. Guys did a great job, came in a big truck, that fit everything. Very hardworking and efficient; wrapped the glass and mirrors, nothing broke or scratched. With any move, there are always headaches. We have very heavy furniture and a lot of fragile items. This was the first time I've ever had to hire movers and Green City Movers made the move go smoothly. What annoyed me was the hidden fee / payment process. Cons: - HIDDEN FEE. I told Norman exactly what I was moving (3-4 large items) and he was very sneaky to leave out the minimum number of hours required to move. Minimum was 4 hours. - I initially wanted to pay with credit card (which I told them) but by the time they were done at 7pm, They said there office was closed to accept card payment. I had to go and get cash. Pros: - They were late by an hour but they notified me by text which was fine. Not notifying the customer about being late is much worse. - When the movers arrived they explained the process and fees before moving. That is when the minimum hours was dropped on me but at least I was told at the start and not at the end of the move. - They had tools to disassemble some of my furniture. I realized that I had moved my tools to my new place. The main reason for the 4 stars was because the movers were professional, properly wrapped my furniture and were quick. The most important part was that they were willing to TRY and move certain items up a flight of stairs (due to the bulk of the items and tight corner on the stairs) even if they thought it wasn't possible. My sofa bed made it to the 2nd floor. The wardrobe closet didn't make it to the 2nd floor but they definitely put in the effort and tried. I would recommend them but definitely ask the right questions to avoid hidden fees. (rate per hour, minimum hours, travel time fee, gas fuel fee, toll tee and packaging supplies fee). read more

We had their help for 2 big moves now, and each time, Earl and his team were terrific, loading and unloading big items like a bedroom set, as well as fragile lamps, etc, and lots and lots of boxes of every size, with expertise- nothing ever was broken or damaged! We hired Green City for a move 20 miles away from my old town. Ikaev was ernest and gave a very competitive quote, and was willing to explain to me how we might be able to bring the price down (i.e. working with the days if we are flexible). He also threw in free tape and boxes which is very helpful. We had a few snafus throughout the move, most of which is just happenchance (Murphy's Law of course) -- but Ikaev took it in his stride and worked with us to resolve all issues as reasonably as possible. Go past his tough man Russian personality -- he is a very good man to do business with, is very fair, and ultimately, has a heart of compassion (one of his men broke a case of a Japanese doll my late father gave me), and he fixed it and you could feel the sincerity and human feeling of understanding what that meant. I'm not moving for a while but I will be recommending GCM to anyone who will be. read more

I did a lot of research before calling Green City Movers for a quote. Not only did they give me the best deal out of 5 different companies but the experience with them was just as expected. The crew was very friendly and professional. They arrived on time and didnt stop working until everything was loaded in the truck. Quite a few problems with these guys. 1) HIDDEN FEES HIDDEN FEES HIDDEN FEES. They refused to talk about price (that is, they nodded when I reiterated what I had agreed to with the manager of the company) but then when we arrived at my new apartment, they wanted $200 more for travel time and a bunch of extra BS. Not unheard of, but unacceptable nonetheless. The manager, Norman, had told me over the phone when we confirmed a couple of days before the move that he estimated a total of 4 hours labor time and that if it went over, it would be $30 per extra half hour. It ended up being an extra $90 per hour (or $45 per half hour). 2) One of the movers spent a collective 42 minutes (after a while I timed it) using the bathroom between the old and new location. That same mover was then charged with reassmebling my bed frame. It was only later that night, well after they had gone that I discovered that he did not complete the job but instead just threw the mattress onto the semi-completed frame and left the remaining parts to the frame tucked between the bed and the wall so I wouldn't find it. If you have very little stuff and aren't going far, I'm sure they would be a great fit - or if you're fine with the fees, just know that you won't hear about them up front. **Update** I should've noted that despite the above, I gave each mover a $20 tip (I didn't discover the other parts to the bed frame until that night and the 3 movers did otherwise work hard). Anyway, I received this e-mail from the moving company today: Hi Tracy, We have discovered a negative review posted on Yelp against Green City Movers Inc. We found this review malicious, false and derogatory. We take these matters seriously to protect our company reputation. We are always here to help our customers and if you had problems during the move you should have contacted the office first to report issues, prior to making defamatory statements on Yelp. Please get back to us to report issues and we will work them out. Please do not ignore our request, otherwise we will have no other choice but to file lawsuit for defamation of character/libel and for monetary compensation for damages as a result of this review. They just sent me an e-mail with a purported breakdown of my move which they have asked me to C&P to Yelp. I found this company on Google (search), contacted them on a holiday, the day before my move. Mike and Ikaev are lovely people: In a professional, and yet friendly manner, they provided me a reasonable quote; communicated constantly with me - sometimes to respond to my queries and allay my concerns and other times to provide a status; provided all the documentation my building required before the move (processed in about half an hour) and the guys arrived very shortly after the documents were submitted and within the timeframe we expected them. The movers are excellent: very very nice, very professional, very fast. They completed our small move between two cities in Westchester in under two hours with no issues at all! I would definitely use this company again! read more
