Not a bad food delivery service, but I really dislike the model Green Chef uses to get new customers signed up. It puts them in the same membership category as XM Sirius and cable companies...the bottom of the barrel. I received a Green Chef trial from a friend and wanted to try it out as she had good things to say about it so I got a weeks worth. (3 meals for 2 ppl) It arrived on time and the meals were nice. Slightly pricey and small portions, but whatever it was worth a shot. Then about the same time that order arrived I received an email saying 'choose next weeks meals'. I didn't as I wasn't sure I wanted to continue with the trial. I made no selections and the next communication was 'your box is on the way' a week later. No reminder, no 'hey you will be charged'...just enjoy. Of course when I called in it was too late to cancel (shocker) so I have another set of meals coming. No clue what is on the way?! :( Green Chef knows what it's doing with this model and the somewhat vague comms that are sent out. It's a shame as there are so many better options to keep customers happy and informed throughout the process. So I'll enjoy the meals that are heading my way (I wonder what they are?) and have learned my lesson. I hope Green Chef makes it, but I really hope they become a little more transparent in the process. Customers don't like to have to read between the lines. I guess I've been lucky because I have not had any problems. I love their meals and look forward to them. All my vegetables have been very fresh. I usually choose keto or vegetarian meals but my boyfriend loves their chicken dishes. I love that they follow green practices with their eco-packaging and belong to Sustainable Packaging Coalition and help to protect our oceans. All meals come with easy to follow instructions and I love their variety every week. Some changes I'm waiting for - the ability to mix and match between the meal plans, such as one keto, one vegetarian, one balanced living, etc. And.....waiting for their app to launch which I was told in early 2020. Overall, I'm a happy customer and eating much healthier and losing weight. read more

I joined this meal delivery service. Not 5 minutes later I cancelled my subscription. I then received an email saying my box would be delivered the following week! I emailed the company immediately to reiterate I cancelled my subscription and did not want the box. I did not receive a response. Then today I get an email saying my box will be delivered today. I then emailed the address provided and it was returned- no such email. I then called customer service. The representative was giving me information about tech changes that I did not need to know, to justify the email not working. In the end, nothing was done. I've tried Green Chef, Home Chef, Hello Fresh, Every Plate, Dinnerly, and Plated. Green Chef is the most expensive and the worst by a wide margin. I tried 2 weeks of their $13/serving keto meals... 1) They knowingly sent me a punctured package of pork. There was a piece of tape over a cut in the package and it ended up leaking all over my fridge. 2) They didn't let me cancel my subscription through their website. Their official process is for you to call them if you want to cancel. This is outrageous. I don't have a Sirius XM subscription because they use the same shady antics. 3) Most of the meals tasted terrible. 4) They use an excessive amount of plastic packaging. If keto isn't a priority, my recommendation it to use Every Plate or Home Chef. Every Plate is half the price, has best-in-industry packaging, and tastes good most of the time. At $10/serving, Home Chef is decent if you want more variety than Every Plate offers. If keto is a priority, my recommendation is to use Instacart to have groceries delivered and find or make recipes on your own. Bacon, ham, eggs, and cheese taste significantly better than most of the Green Chef meals. read more

Hmm. It looks like I'm a rare fan here, but. . . I've been getting this service for over a month now and every order has come on time and accurate. Food still cold, all the ingredients in good shape (I get the vegan, mostly). I wonder if the fact that I'm in Denver helps. . . the box says the company is here in Colorado. We've found the recipes delicious--and more than adequate in portion size. We're big eaters, so I order the 4-portion size even though there are only 2 of us--and I've consistently had the 2 extra portions as leftovers. Sometimes I add a little animal protein, but haven't really needed it. You DO have to chop and actually cook, but I don't mind that--I love the benefit of having new recipes and the convenience of having everything in one place--no shopping and no waste. The plastic IS excessive. When you order the 4-portion, they actually just give you 2, 2-portion bags, so you get twice as much plastic as you need, which is a bummer. I just learned that the stuff in the ice packs is 99% salt water and 1% polyacrylate, so if you let it melt and dump it in the trash, it will evaporate and it's not really adding 10lbs of waste to the landfill every week. read more

Easy to cook, easy to prep, and wholesome. Everything was color coded neatly and packaged perfectly with no spills or spoilage. I liked that the sauces were pre-made and many were pre-chopped to save time. I'm terrible at chopping anything, so that was good! It was fun to decorate the plates like in the pictures. Felt pretty fancy. On the (paleo) menu one week was Thai Chicken Stir-fry & Cherry BBQ pork chops. It was all veggie and meat based, and all the meat tasted fresh. On average cooking took about 20-30 minutes. Also, the portions were pretty big for me. I shared it with my roommates and we had enough tupperware in the fridge for future meals (one recipe for two had 4-5 meals for us). I got a box and then sent the next box to my parents! This was the worst food delivery service I have ever experienced. I had the service for 2 weeks before canceling. The first week half of the 4 meals were missing ingredients and of course it was the vegetable portion because it was always heavy on the carb side. The 2nd week I only received half of the meals that I ordered. Instead of decreasing my work on week night meals it increased it. Definitely time to move on from this mess. I signed up and order and paid on the 9th. My order which I tried to track had no tracking but was due on the 16th. It's due right now and we find out it never shipped. The customer service person was no help except to suggest Green Chef keep our money and they'll try again next week because our order never shipped at all. It wasn't lost it wasn't delayed it never shipped. Why does it take a customer to notify Green Chef that they aren't shipping product. So far I've tried 3 meal services, I'm vegan so have only tried the vegan meals with each service. Green chef tastes the best out of the three and has the largest portions. I always have enough leftover for a single lunch the next day. The sauces are really delicious and generous amounts are provided. I've had enough leftover at times to use to season a family meal that I've prepared without the kit. The ingredients have been just as fresh as the other 2 meal delivery services. Customer service has been awesome with handling the few small problems we've had. My only complaints are the excessive packaging and the meals do take an hour to prepare. They are always so delicious that they are worth the time. It's just a lot of work 3 nights in a row. Would be nice to have one easy prep meal each week. read more

I will say they refunded my fee but I never received my food and really never had my questions answered. Had read Reviews that said their delivery was terrible and I will confirm it is. They use a very cheap poor rated delivery company that does not work on the weekends and so if they miss your delivery date on Thursday or Friday you won't get it till Monday or Tuesday and it's well past the Freshness date.that's what happened to me. I was super excited to try out Green Chef. Got all my preselected meals picked out, filled everything out, paid for it all and begin to wait for my delivery day. On my delivery evening, it seemed like things were kinda quiet (no emails or texts about delivery) and so I tracked my delivery only to read that their delivery service had never received it. I called customer service and was told that what actually happened was "your delivery got damaged during delivery so it had to be destroyed. I'm so sorry you weren't notified." I was kinda stunned. I told the customer service rep that that was unfortunate, that this was my first time with Green Chef and my first order, and so asked what we could do to correct this. She told me she could credit me (duh) for my missed delivery but that I could only use the credit at the end of my promotional period. So in 4 more orders, then they would make it up to me. This just didn't feel right. So after I give you close to 200.00 more dollars, THEN you'll credit me for this disastrous screw up? It's not like they forgot to add the rolls to my dinner. The entire order was destroyed and I was never told and was literally waiting at 6:00pm for an order that was never going to appear. I hadn't gone to the grocery store that week because I thought my order was arriving. So I told her I wanted to just cancel my membership and get a refund. Without skipping a beat, she said "sure!" and cancelled my orders, refunded my money and cheerfully said "if you ever want to come back to Green Chef, give us a call!" and I just sat there like ???. I told her "want to know something? You could have talked me out of canceling, but you didn't even try." I was surprised that they didn't try to do more, (like send a replacement order out as soon as possible, etc.) but instead just "happily" ended my membership. I'm picky with food. Let me repeat that; I'm picky with food. In addition to that I tend to eat a lot. Me and my wife are young professionals. Green chef is a 9/10 in our opinion. The meals taste good. They taste like I went to a moderately nice restaurant. I've not had to throw out any produce from them that I can remember; everything I've received from them has been ripe and not rotten. The recipes are precise and thorough. We have a good dinner in well under an hour. The diversity compared to what we would normally get is a nice treat. It's opened my mind to what we can cook. I like that I don't throw away produce like I would have to had I bought the ingredients for these recipes at the grocery store and been forced to get more than I would need for the dishes. I really like how everything is bagged, labeled and organic. I could not ask for a better meal delivery service. All this being said, I've not tried alternative comparable services, it's possible others are equally as good and cheaper, I'm not sure. But I know that we always cook our meals and thoroughly enjoy them. I'd like to repeat a third time; I'm picky with food. read more

And for the price....I expect consistent quality....they did not make the grade....I was done when my box last week had open leaking chicken, MOLDY onions, and missing bell pepper and seasonings. I gave Green Chef a try for a couple weeks... Week 1: the chicken was bad and covered in fat (it hadn't been cleaned correctly). The Pork was terrible but overall the ingredients were ok. Week 2: chicken had an expiration date from 2 months prior and when I opened the package I almost died. The Bacon was brown before I opened the package which is a sign it had turned. And the last was a few of the vegetables were molded in their package. By the time I cancelled it was too late so I received week 3 package. All the food was frozen upon arrival so I've yet to see what that has in store for me. The most frustrating part was reaching out the customer service. When I explained what was wrong they didn't care nor did they fix it in any way. I would stay away from this service. UPDATE (from 1 start to 2): I will say that customer service finally got back to me and they are refunding me my money and they said they are filing a quality control report with their vendor so hopefully they nip that in the butt. My husband and I have been ordering the 3 omnivore meals per week for a few months now and love the food, flavors, variety, and freshness. This plan works in our schedule and everything is easy to cook. We both work and I mainly cook, so having decisions made about dinner with all the ingredients ready is amazing. I don't mind the bags, boxes, and containers I just throw it all away. I can't speak enough good things about the food and how amazing it is! I couldn't/wouldn't ever cook like this on my own. Being in a dinner rut, I decided to try out Green Chef. I picked out my omnivore selection and when I realized that my menu items contain an ingredient that my little one is allergic to, I asked if I could just switch out that one menu selection. Unfortunately there isn't any way to customize your menu and I had to go with the vegan selection in order to avoid the ingredient. I got my order around noon and unpacked my ingredients right away. I noticed as I was unpacking that some of the veggies were not as fresh probably because they were precut for you which is both nice since you're not wasting any ingredients but makes it more prone to squishiness (my cut peppers were a little mushy around the edges). I cancelled my subscription an hour after receiving my order and they had already locked me in to my next order. Customer service was great and cancelled and refunded my order right away. I tried the summer minestrone soup (pretty bland - wish it had a little more oomph to it), blackened tempeh (my husband did not like this one at all), and vietnamese noodle bowl (surprisingly super yummy even for my carnivorous husband). I do like how Green Chef does a lot of the prep work (pre-shredded cabbage/carrots, pre-mixed sauces, etc) for you! The menu are all listed as under 30 minutes or so but that is deceiving because of the fact that they've made the sauces for you. If you were to make everything (they give you the sauce recipes online) it would definitely take a lot longer than 30 minutes! read more

They are sneaky. Their advertising is deceiving, and their recipes are not worth what they ask you to pay. I signed up through a TV ad and had a hard time choosing three meals. They also force you to have the box delivered on certain dates, which means the box then sits on your porch for hours no matter the climate. In my case, it was actually the opposite, it was promised to be delivered between 7am and 7pm and it came at 7:30pm. The ice was melted. The customer service did not take any responsibility. The worst problem was that I chose to cancel the plan after I placed the order for the first box. I did not suspect the account was not deactivated because I stopped receiving notifications from Green Chef about selecting meals. Surprise, surprise. Today I received a notification that a new box was being shipped, without ever get the opportunity to choose my meals and for $75, 2x the price of the first box. I deactivated the account again and called the customer service to stop the box. The customer service kept on repeating how they would love to help me and how they understood but did nothing. Now I am stuck with a box with pork and turkey which I don't eat at $75. This company is a headache and the recipes are not worth it. DO NOT ENROLL!!! It is a rip off. I'm a bit conflicted about Green Chef. 1) TASTE/MEALS: The taste of the meals was pretty good. I really enjoyed the variety - we chose the veggie/vegan box and the diversity of the meals and ingredients was great. This is the one thing that actually would make me come back for more. 2) INSTRUCTIONS: The recipes were easy enough to follow and had nice pictures - but they should be a LITTLE more specific. They just told me to boil their pink rice without specifics - when I did it per my usual rice cooking method I burnt the rice pretty bad. Whoops! Might just be that I'm an idiot - but hey, the other meal kits I tried seemed a bit more fool-proof :'D 3) "GREEN": They are anything but green! Every single ingredient came inside a plastic bag with a sticker on it. I mean it. Plastic bags for everything - everything individually wrapped. While they state you can return the plastic film at specific dropoff locations... I doubt most of their consumers are going to go through the effort of washing the soiled plastic, scratching off the sticker, and driving to a dropoff location. So... I'm guessing all that plastic is going unrecycled in the majority of households (though I'd love to be proven otherwise). And if each box they send has THAT many plastic baggies... sheesh. I'd hate to imagine their plastic footprint. Despite their best intentions of being "green", I just don't think they gave us a practical solution. Would be more excited if they improved added more bio-degradable packaging options. 4) Portions - To see 1/4 of a tiny onion cut up and sealed in a plastic baggie... a bit visually sad. The Kale bags also came with... three leaves. I dunno. It just gives off a "scarcity" impression. Overall... I'm going to continue my journey with all the other meal kit services out there... but maybe I'll order once in a while? It's a bit pricey per serving, so I doubt it. read more

My wife and I have belonged to Green Chef for about four months and are very pleased with the meals that we have selected. We have found the meals to be well-seasoned and tasty and especially appreciate the sauces which add a good finishing touch to the meals. We have also found the portions for two people to be very good-sized. I am always full and my wife often saves some for leftovers. The absolute worst. Hello Fresh owns Green Chef. In order to see meals you have to enter credit card which automatically enrolls you in subscription. Despite canceling subscription within minutes...the first box was apparently ordered? I discovered when my credit card is charged. Called and explained confusion and wanting to cancel order that has not been shipped. Can't cancel or get a refund. Told a manager will call me back in 30-60 minutes. Waited almost two hours. Had same conversation. Insisted I talk to someone now. Rep tells me he is transferring me to his supervisor and hangs up the call. SCAM. There is already a class action suit in progress for this kind of thing. Gross. Already filed complaint with BBB. Will now shout from the rooftops so as many people know as possible. read more

I'm giving this review 2 stars because the first box I received was free, albeit the food was pretty awful and missing ingredients. Although we didn't get to pick our free box, it was free so I'm not going to complain. After receiving our free box and trying to log in to check if I would be receiving another box, I was surprised to find that my email was not "registered". Without thinking twice about it, I forgot about Green Chef and it's terrible meals for about 2 weeks before I checked my credit card and found they charged me $80 for what?! I frantically hopped online to login to my account for which it stated that my email was not registered. I looked through my emails including my spam account to see if I had received ANY emails regarding my upcoming order. Nada. Nothing. Zilch. So I call Green Chef's customer support where a representative advised me that because I had claimed the free box and put in my credit card information, Green Chef had the right to charge me recurring charges for upcoming boxes that I was not allowed to choose... Okay, I've tried many meal kit services and Green Chef is probably the worst in both customer service and food quality/choice. As I tried to explain to the representative that I did not even know I had even signed up for an account because I couldn't login and it kept saying my email wasn't registered, the representative kept telling me that "a lot could have happened" between December 2020 and today, January 6, 2021 where I forgot that I had even ordered Green Chef. WHAT?! The representative basically told me that I may have forgotten that I had ordered a Green Chef box less than a month ago... Not trying to rile myself up at 9:00 AM, I decided to let that go and advise the representative that Green Chef hadn't even sent me a confirmation email that I was receiving a box, getting charged for the box, or even what my meals would entail. Regardless, they refunded me my full refund even though it was only 5 days until the "chef" had to prepare and send out my meals. Like ew, even if the boxes were free I wouldn't take them. THIS IS MY FIRST NEGATIVE YELP: Poor quality of food. Wilted greens, Chicken not organic and instead of two breasts as depicted in the recipe for stuffing it was one breast split into two halves which could not be stuffed other than folding over the breast. Also, in the shrimp meal it called for red peppers and we had a green bell pepper. We have used other meal delivery services and this one by far is the worst. We still have one meal to try but in my world two strikes and you are out. Also the delivery time was not revealed only the day. It was getting late in the day so I called Green Chef and asked when I can expect the delivery. I was told it is on its way and you should receive it "sometime today". It is 100 degrees in Sacramento and the delivery came after 5pm in the heat of the day. If we weren't home the food would have cooked in the box! Most of the ice pack was melted and the food was cool but not cold, hence the wilted greens. Other meal plan delivery services we have used delivered the food in the morning, sometime before we woke up so the food was fresh and chilled. I do not recommend Green Chef. read more

I just received my first box after seeing a great Facebook offer. I loved it so much, thought I would write a review. My son (8 years old) had been excited about this food is arriving. When it arrived today he helped me separate the color coded meals and cook the meal we choose for tonight. Everything was fresh and in perfect condition. The visual instructions/recipe was great my son read it and helped cook the meal. It was a nice fun thing for us to do and since he helped with everything he was even willing to try the food and enjoyed it! He's a super picky eater. I was impressed with the quality of the food and the ease of it all. I am pretty shocked by the other reviews. Complaining about the Tastes not being what you like ? Okay that can happen at any restaurant, you just move on. Everything that came was so fresh and tasty. I would recommend to everybody. I would totally love to see a single person plan with like 4 meals for 50/55$ I think that would be a great seller. Absolutely terrible service. I was given a gift card for Christmas. Registered my account then deactivated since I was not home. They still sent out a box after I immediately deactivated. The next week, they automatically applied a 'discount' to my account. Ok cool, but then they started to charge my debit card since they 'cant use GIFT CARDS' for a discount, not a free box or anything, a literal gift card. That can't be used to buy something discounted. They also insist on charging my debit card for shipping since also, you can't use a GIFT CARD for SHIPPING. I was given a gift card because money was tight, next time I'll just ask for 50 bucks for the grocery store, probably get more food too. Less time spent preparing food but 3x as much spent with customer service. read more
