We have the 2-meal plan each week to feed 4 people, and the portions are just right. The recipes are really creative - flavor combinations I never would have considered - and we were all really impressed. It makes dinner prep so much easier, when our evenings are crazy busy with kids and work. Been using green chef for months and went from a huge fan to completely frustrated to the point where I want to help others avoid this horrible service. Paleo plan...gluten free, organic... about $84 a month. Loved it at first. Then maybe once a month we would get a rotten ingredient. They would credit me when I called customer service. We would replace the ingredient ourselves. Then it shifted to every week we would receive a rotten ingredient. Now it is almost every meal has a rotten ingredient. Rotten carrots. Molded broccoli. Spoiled meat. So frustrating. What is the point of getting a meal delivery service if they can't deliver fresh ingredients? And to an earlier reviewers comment... they mix in 'conventional' ingredients that are not organic due to supply issues yet still charge us the organic price. Not right. So I tried to call customer service to see where I could see the separate sauce ingredients listed. Apparently they are not trained in this. I initially loved Green Chef's food and service. I even recommended it to 4 other people. However, the honeymoon was over quickly. In the first incident, they didn't include one of my fish items. Another time, the meal NEVER GOT DELIVERED. Also, I've specifically asked them not to leave the box at the garage and, instead, bring it to the front door - it is specified in my delivery address; in the delivery instructions; and I've called about it 3 times. Yet, they keep leaving it at the garage. These incidents have happened back to back. Each time, they've offered to either give me a credit or reimburse me. I have used other meal delivery services, so I'm comparing to that. First- the items that are sent is not what the recipes say. They also don't send a disclaimer why they are "substituting" which would be helpful. They also package the food but then in the recipe you need to do additional prepping. Why would they not simply chop the shredded carrots if that is what the recipe calls for? They have taken the time to shred and package, but yet it's not what the recipe calls for. While the steps are not difficult, there are a lot of steps to put together the meals. When you come home after working all day, the last thing you want to do is take 30 minutes to put together. They have also mixed up recipe cards so the meal I ordered did not have a card. I had to call them and sit on hold for 23 minutes. Once I got through, the assistant was very nice and emailed me the recipe card. Cost- not cheap. I asked my husband if what he was eating was worth &14.00 dollars? We also chose the vegetarian route so no meat. Nothing but veggies and grains. Flavor- just ok. Not over the top fabulous for the steps required. Got box on thursday by saturday at least one item each bag was rotten. Salmon is farmed raised with dye added and although it wasnt spoiled it wasnt fresh either. The food is soooo yummy! It's so nice to not have to think about planning meals and shopping and the recipes are absolutely delicious and you can make them in 30 mins or less. I pretty much don't have to go grocery shopping and GreenChef allows me to stay on budget and keeps me healthy and excited to cook. The best part is that I don't waste a ton of food anymore. I used to cook large meals and always throw away lots of leftovers but GreenChef is perfectly portioned and it's so nice having the variety. I immediately canceled my "subscription" (less than 24 hours from reactivation). Even after lengthy "chat" with website help, nothing could be done. I was charged $90 and received food I had not ordered. Don't get me wrong - I loved the food, the recipes, the convenience when I used Green Chef a couple of years ago. But prices have gone up (no fault of theirs) and my financial situation has not. Their food is really good. Their website and transparency not so good. If you happen to miss one email from them after 3 months on pause you will have a very very small window to contact them to cancel your box even though they confirmed my box was not shipped yet. Then when I asked for a supervisor they told me it would take up to 24 hours for them to return my call, probably so they can then say my box is already in the mail and there's nothing they can do. Extreme case of bait and switch after the introductory offer. 90$ for 3 small meals? No matter how much I dislike grocery shopping, this is not a sustainable replacement. Delivery: Very well insulated, cold, came on time Packaging: Individual items packaged and color coded by recipes. Most items placed in zipped plastic bags - including sauces, herbs in small plastic boxes. The onions and garlic were chopped and in a small plastic container - I wish they had just let me chop those because they were soggy and smelled a little funny. Freshness/quality of ingredients: Every item was organic. Most items were fresh even 3 days later. There was a little mold on the shallot and the chard was turning black in a couple areas on the stem. Time of food prep: Honestly, it took closer to 45 min - 1 hr depending on the recipe. I consider myself a fairly proficient cook and cook a variety of cuisine so I'm pretty experienced, but it still took much longer to cook the meal than advertised. I also ended up dirtying a lot of things while cooking which added to clean-up time. Ease of food prep: on a scale of 1-10 (1 easy, 10 hard), I'd give it a 7. Clear instructions with photos of every step. You have to wash the veggies and chop them, which is typical of this type of service, but the problem was the balancing act - 2 things on the stove while you might be chopping something else. There seemed to be a lot of ingredients for every recipe - more than with other companies. Taste: Very good. This is where they shine. From the first mouthful, I could tell this was a lot better than other companies that I had tried. Amazing flavors and variety of cuisine - Egyptian spices, Thai just to name a few, as well as homestyle classics. Choices: You can pick from different options: gluten-free, paleo, vegan, & carnivore to name a few, but within those categories you can't pick individual meals. Having our meals planned out that were Keto friendly sounded like a great way to kickstart this thing. Unfortunately their Keto meals don't follow the strict Keto diet. I would have thought that a professional company like this, that advertises as "Keto Friendly" would know that when cooking any meal on this diet, you have to be very cautious of carbs. I trusted the marketing here, and your company, but sadly it's far from what was advertised. When on Keto you should consume around 15-20 carbs a day, but our first meal w/ Green Chef I consumed 20 carbs with just dinner! After doing some thorough research online after my meal (the meals DO NOT come with nutritional facts besides calories in the packaging, you have to go on their website and dig for the info) I found that these dinners are super high in carbs. They are low if you are not on a low carb diet, but very high if you are. I am so frustrated because we have 2 more meals to make, and I was just charged $93 today for another 3 meals next week that we cannot eat.
