They market it and label it as organic, when really just their produce is organic... which they typically give you half a pepper on a good day. So none of your meat, dairy, grains, etc. are organic. We did Hello Fresh for a year and wanted to switch to an organic options during pregnancy. Hello Fresh had better servings, gave you full servings of vegetables and was less expensive. Green Chef states they are organic, charge 20% more than Hello Fresh and then just give you half the vegetables. The serving sizes were far less as well for 2 people. (btw it's not even keto considering most people have to stay between 20-40 net carbs a day, and for me I aim for 20 but I thought wth, at least it's low carb at best and organic, so why not.) My package arrived on January 8th and contained 3 recipes (2 servings). The first recipe was decent in terms of flavor but lacked in quality. It was steak with sundried tomato sauce, creamy mushrooms and a side salad. I am very picky about the way my steak is cooked and only eat it medium rare. I'm by no means a professional chef, but I've watched my fair share of Gordon Ramsey and own a meat thermometer. With that being said, I cooked my steak to a medium rare and it was extremely tough to eat... I don't believe the quality of the sirloin was as good as advertised. I didn't make a big deal out of it. Today, I went home to prepare my second meal: chicken harissa salad. Upon grabbing the package of chicken out of my refrigerator I notice the packaging date says 12/5... This is extremely concerning for me since today is the 8th of January... Subscriber Beware! I have been a customer on two occasions. The first began in 2018 for about a year. No issues. I lost weight and reached a point where I went back to prepping my own. In August of 2022, I reactivated. It is not the same company. The meals are still good, although many of the meals/portions have gotten smaller. But missing ingredients are common, and there are constant issues with delivery. I have had three instances in the past 12 weeks where they inexplicably cancelled my order. They never send any notice- it just doesn't show. I have to constantly monitor the app on delivery day. Their explanations for cancelling make no sense. The first cancellation they delivered the following day. The last two, they just apologized and did nothing to resolve. Customer service is nothing like what it used to be. I will start off by saying I had the service for 27 boxes. I have called the company multiple times about packages being delivered a day late. They said they would call me back about the issue, but they didn't. Their solution is to credit the shipping, however, I order 3 meals and if it's not delivered on time, I'm having to pay for dinner twice but one of the meals is going to be thrown away. Along with the day late deliveries, they believe delivering packages between 9pm and 1am is in on time. Food is missing, rotten, or altogether wrong. I thought I had skipped a week and then I got a notification at 1 am that I was charged for the week, I called them less than 7 hours later to see if they could help process a refund so I could get my money back and skip they week and they adamantly said they could not. I find this to be highly suspicious and I don't buy it for a second. Despite a lot of the review, i thought green chef was really fun and cool. It was like eating restaurant food at home. While the portions look small when packaged my fiance and i usually ended up with left overs. I will admit that i will not continue since it is about $16.00 a meal and i am already a good cook and have lots of access to local farmers produce and humanely treated meat/ dairy products. This is great if you have no idea how to cook, have extra cash, or want to impress a date. I can see people in New York or Chicago using this. I realized it was far too expensive for me, but apparently you have to manually cancel the next upcoming order (uncharged, unprocessed, and not shipped) AND cancel the account. I was skeptical coming into this but given the reviews and endorsements by several users, decided to give Green Chef a shot. To say it was a bit of a mistake is an understatement. I selected the pescatarian meal plan, again - skeptical, but hopeful. The first meal was delivered on time, but the veggies were such low quality that by the time I got to the third meal (3 days after delivery) they were wilted and had to be replaced. The seafood was cool, but barely and I had to freeze it to prevent it from spoiling before I could use it. The recipes were simple and easy to follow, but what's the point if the food is bad... My second delivery has yet to arrive, and currently is on its third day past due. Frankly, the thought of preparing seafood 5-8 days after it's been sitting in a cooler somewhere on a truck or in a warehouse is disgusting. Given the highly perishable nature of all of the ingredients, especially the seafood, I expected a sense of urgency in delivery that seems to not exist. I contacted Green Chef on the due date (6/1), when I learned that my delivery was actually in my town but sitting in a FedEx facility somewhere with no prospect or schedule of delivery until today (6/4). The response was basically, "so sorry it's late" with the tone of "tough s**t." Much of the current problem appears to be FedEx; otherwise, I'd be less forgiving in a review of Green Chef. Still, I've used other home delivery services with no need to ever purchase replacement ingredients, and it seems that they're possibly selling beyond their deliverable geographic range. The whole point of the Green Chef's keto plan is so that I could have had a trouble-free meal that didn't require me to plan subs or endure a meal where the only thing I could eat was the meat. It is not a fad diet, and it is not always a choice for most people who choose this way of eating. All the complaints in the world have not moved them one iota and they keep sending out meals that are low-carb Paleo and not Keto at all. Another problem is the lack of simplicity and difficulty in cooking some of the meals. I found myself embroiled in cooking dinners that took up to 2 hours to prep, and left my kitchen in a state of chaos. As a chronically ill person, the very last thing I needed was a huge clean-up after what was advertised to be a quick and simple meal. And as each month passed, the food sent was more and more difficult because they no longer sent the premade sauces and pre-chopped veggies. I was actually making everything from scratch. The cuts of meat also began to decline in quality as the weeks passed. We experienced super-tough and stringy steaks, dry and tasteless chicken, and fish that literally cooked into a soggy mess. The amounts were inconsistent. Sometimes we received WAY too much food for our family, which was OK as we could save for leftovers. But other times we received so little food that I had to cook something else to make a full meal. To sum it all up: I don't think Green Chef is worthwhile under the best of circumstances. The food is good sometimes and other times it is inedible. The amounts were inconsistent. BUT THE VERY WORST THING IS THAT THEY ARE MARKETING A MEDICAL MEAL PLAN TO SICK PEOPLE, BUT THEY DO NOT ADHERE TO THE STRICT PRINCIPLES OF THAT MEAL PLAN. This is underhanded. Low-ish carb? Yes. I've used Green Chef for over a year. Meals are consistently high quality ingredients and easy directions. My son has been learning to cook by following the instructions, and so many steps are basic cooking techniques. It's not just for full meals at home. We have used Flatbread as appetizers to high praise, and vegetarian meals as a side with our own added meat to satisfy a group of mixed vegetarian and meat-plus-more-meat family. I have ordered to take to rental cottages, and it's perfect to have everything we need neatly packaged up. I've also ordered for large family gatherings, saving the shopping time as well as cutting down cooking time. Once, I left my box on the floor and ran out the door, because the packaging really does keep for a long time. But when i got hone an hour later, my dogs had gotten into the box and eaten all the raw chicken, and biten into all the other bags. Since id ordered for a family trip, I took the meal cards and went to a grocery store to restock. It cost me slightly more at the store than Green Chef. I am surprised to see so many negative reviews here. My husband and I have been ordering with Green Chef for more than 6 months now and we LOVE their food. The recipes are amazing and delicious. Often the quality and creativeness is so good that we say we would not find something like that in a restaurant. If you want spoiled meat and customer service that just says sorry for you luck, we will give you some credit towards another purchase. This is your company. Upon opening my box, everything seems to be packaged nice organized and neat (this is the produce, spices etc), however, on the bottom is the frozen goods. 2 issues here, obviously ice packs used are not adequate as the frozen goods were not frozen. Chicken surface temp was over 60degC, the sea food was in paper bag and food inside felt like mush. Obviously none of the meat is safe to consume, so I immediately contacted customer service who would not replace frozen goods, or return the order or otherwise make good on this service. I don't really understand the reviewers that call this company a scam...it's possible they just bought the Groupon thinking it was a one-time thing and didn't read about what they were signing up for. I didn't buy the Groupon, they have a similar deal for new customers on the Green Chef site so I just went with that. The Green Chef website is very user friendly and all the details are straightforward from the beginning. If I know I'm going to be out of town one week then I just log in and skip that week (you must do this 7 days in advance). If you want to completely cancel the service there is no contract and no penalties you just have to do it 7 days before your next box is due otherwise you will get one last box that you have to pay for. As far as the food goes it has all been really fresh, the meat has been quality cuts. I have learned so much about cooking and I absolutely love the fact it is all USDA certified organic. The portions are large, I've even ate leftovers for lunch the next day a few times. The Carnivore menu offers three types of protein (beef, chicken & seafood) whereas the Omnivore menu offers two types of protein (one meat-based & one seafood) and one vegetarian dish. Each recipe serves two people (the 2-person plan) so everything you need is pre-portioned and nothing goes to waste. Some of the ingredients have already been prepped by Green Chef (such as the sauces and herbs) and everything arrives packaged neatly in an insulated box with ice packs. Each recipe card is color-coded so you can easily find a bag or container that goes with it. (I like to reuse the little plastic jars they send since they come with sturdy lids.) The recipes are easy to understand and follow and they come printed with photos for each step. So really, there should be no reason to mess up! Green Chef has really opened my eyes to new ways of using certain ingredients so I've been having a lot more fun in the kitchen. YAY! I haven't had any problems with this company so I have nothing but praise for Green Chef. If you don't want to be charged for a future delivery, go to your account and "skip" ahead before the cut-off date. (You can check the calendar up to a month and a half in advance.) We had it for two weeks. The first week they sent the wrong orders and when called they didn't want to make things right. Athena second week they sent veggies that's were brown and and rotting. We called again and explain the problem. The call taker didn't seem to care and would not help. When told we were not going to refer them to any one and was going to give them a bad review the call taker just told us to go for it. awe cancelled our subscription and will never use them again. read more
