My kid and I were parched and hungry after touring the McGill campus, so we wandered downtown, stumbling upon this small but cute salad and sandwich shop in the Eaton Center, on University by the corner of St. Catherine.
We were first attracted to the delicious display case of salads. We are salad people, and proud (!). They really looked good. (I'm personally a big fan of Salads Nicoise, and they had a good looking specimen of one in the case, along with other delectable salad types). I then saw a chalkboard listing their specials and my kid and I decided to share a sandwich (any type) and a salad (house choice). I then checked out the sandwich types and they ALL looked good. We finally agreed upon the goat cheese and eggplant sandwich. It had olives in the bread and they heated it up, so it was all melty and warm. SO good. The salad was presented in the tiniest cup, but it was couscous with mint and small citrus pieces and very tasty and refreshing.
We sat at a table by the window and watched the passers-by on University.
Nice touch, that they have a pitcher of fruit-infused water free for the taking (it was such a hot day that many of us took advantage of this).
I should note that they have beautiful looking desserts here, too, from fruit parfaits to pastries and tarts and cookies. (We didn't have any but we were sorely tempted to!). They also have a long table that seats many (or where one can spread out some papers if need be), in addition to smaller tables for two by the window. I think most customers here are downtown workers who get their food purchases to go. read more
