This is a unique store that sells everything from electronic parts to collectible vinyl record albums. It's a hobbyist's dream. They have a seemingly endless inventory of hard-to-find electronic components, aisle after aisle. If you had the wherewithal to build a computer or audio amplifier from scratch, you would find everything you'd need right here. Still want to play those old VHS tapes, but your player died? They have dozens of used ones stacked up like cordwood. There's a few gems to be found here, too. I was in the store today, and a rare, vintage Marantz 250 stereo power amp and a pre-owned Ampeg 4x12 bass guitar cabinet caught my eye. It's fun just to walk around and look this at stuff, even if you have no use for it. In fact, part of the shop is a museum of really old stuff that they rent out as movie props. The guys who work here are super-friendly, and will shoot the breeze with you, even if you don't buy anything. These are the guys, they sent me to a competitor for a part they did not have, gave me an obsolete Vacuum tube which helped me diagnose an amplifier problem and helped me find a specific semiconductor needed to repair a vintage amplifier, they deserve 10 stars!! This place is fantastic! They helped me so much and were very patient. I needed a new capacitor for a grinder that was no longer available. They researched it, and found that there was one close to the original specifications. I am so grateful I got the grinder to work and I only could do it because of their help. I have to say I am completely shocked by the bad reviews!!!! I went there with my son to repair a vintage fluorescent sign. They went so far above and beyond with trouble shooting the issue, probably 30-45 minutes. After testing a few things they figured out all it needed was a new starter. $10 later and he had a like new sign and a huge smile on his face!!! While my son my was being helped I spoke with the owner who gave a history on some of the items in their museum, I would give this place 100 stars if possible!!! read more

Transplanted back to NJ after 25 years in Ohio I lamented the loss of Electronics Surplus being available at my whim (check out Mentor Ohio), but lo to my surprise, driving up the perilous rt 22 one morning, my eyes chanced upon the sign for Greenbrook Electronics. Being an effects designer and overall geek, my heart skipped a beat as i pondered if this would be some lame ass, going out of business business, or if it had a remote chance of replacing my beloved ESI. When I finally got to the point of running out of critical components for a time sensitive build, I made the trip over to GE, and on walking in the door, my spirit soared and my dork heart sang. For the geek, who builds with electronics or likes to repair that which should not occupy landfill space, this place is NJs mecca. It was ratshack was in the 70s, a joint full of pieces parts rarely found elsewhere, with an assortment that makes you brim with geeky joy. I was surprised at how extensive the selection was, and much to my anal categorizing, sort it sensibly nature, surprise, there was rhyme to the reason of how the items were placed in the store. I happily wandered the aisles for a few hours picking through the selection like a kid in the candy shop. I went to this store to buy some electronic items and when I walked inside there was an older man standing behind the counter who was very nice. All of a sudden I heard this very very loud music coming from all over the hell. So I went to the area where the items that I wanted and the music, " if you want to call it that" was so loud that I had trouble concentrating on finding the parts that I needed. Then when I asked the old man where the location of some other items that I needed, he couldn't here me because of the music. So I asked him what is up with the music and he said that the management plays the music all day long. Well I couldn't believe what I was hearing so I gave the man my items and told him that I wouldn't be back!!!!!!! I did called later and they said that it was still going on. I don't understand that someone would run a business like that. It was actually sickening. read more

Although this store has a fantastic selection of items, I am truly dissapointed with their technical service. I brought in an electrical device on a Monday, the technician peter is there on fridays, I spoke to him on that friday and he gave me the, Ive been doing this for 40 years bla bla, so i felt good that ok, this guy is going to fix this and looking forward to picking it up. Fast forward 5 weeks later, i never heard from him or the store, I didnt want to call and be a hound so I gave the respect , space, and time to complete the task. I spoke with peter and he just sang an entirely different tune, not to mention he broke my item worse than I brought it in, I could have did what he did,I brought this item to this store for a specific reason and did not receive the item in the condition I brought it in, totally disgusted with peter , why toot the torn if your horn dont work? i wouldnt even give this guy an electric toothbrush to repair. How do you mess up someones item and give it back to them in worse off condition then come up with some incompitent excuse, It would have been at least decent to refund me the 35$ service fee, plus tax. I would have preferred you just man up and say look im sorry, i burned it out while troubleshooting, fine done, but to be a weasel about it, this is why i created this account and am leaving this review. You really dissapointed me peter and i hope this review helps others for getting the same sickening feeling in their stomach that i have right now and had for the last two days since i picked it up. I had to sign up to Yelp just to disagree with the last review. This store has helped many people out in a crunch. RS does not have half the things this store has. I don't mind paying twice as much for a resistor or rectifier (its usually only 50 cents anyway) to have it in my hand. The help know what they are selling, but you have to ask some questions to get them to talk. I hope Greenbrook is around for many more years. read more

One of the last remaining retail electronic supply shops that has been overtaken by mail order web sites and with good reason. The prices are way over the top, the inventory doesn't have a wide selection and the counter help knows almost nothing about what they are selling. They have a NO RETURN STORE CREDIT ONLY policy which must be returned within 5 days, no exceptions. It's the kind of retail sales that your mother warned you of. You are better off going to Home Depot and Radio Shack if you must shop retail. I strongly recommend you avoid this place, especially since the counter help is rude and try to bully you into buying an item which won't do the job, and then refuse to allow you to return it for a refund. read more

Outstanding level of costumer service: my air conditioner stop working, after checking the unit I found out the I needed a capacitor. Time EST 5:48 , I immediately called Green Brook Electronics gave them the part number after verifying they had the part but were closing at 6:00 pm. They told me that they would wait for me and they did. I arrived at 6:17 pm, the lights were off and I got worry they were gone. They were waiting and the part was ready.
