We did a lot of research when looking to have our roof replaced. In our search of roofers, we looked at a lot of well-known names in not only Ocean County but the surrounding area and read a lot of reviews which were shocking to see what people said. Upon looking at Green Apple's reviews, we saw a lot of what we hoped to see. As a result, we contacted them for an estimate through their website and received a phone response shortly thereafter, and a face-to-face consultation was arranged at our house at our convenience. Upon arrival, Ron walked around the house to inspect the roof. We explained the age of the roof, the leaks we were having, and the need for removal and replacement. Ron even climbed up a ladder into the attic and crawled over the beams to get to the source of the leaks and took pictures to assess the condition of the wooden roofing deck, which I was happy to see his thoroughness. As a result of his in-person assessment of the job and the size of the task at hand, he verbally went over what he estimated was needed, provided us with many details of what would take place and the materials that would be installed. I had easily 20 questions to ask him, many of which he covered in his thorough explanation, and he answered all of them to my satisfaction. We communicated that we had a job deadline due to the season, which he was fine with and easily conformed to. Confident in his ability to do the job to my standards, we provided the down payment check and proceeded with the job. Contact was made by Ron to myself a number of times, as we had to decide / finalize the color of the shingles and pick an exact date to perform the job far enough in advance so that I could get the time off from work to be there, which Ron was great about keeping in touch with me. We provided him with the shingle color, and a two-day window for the job period was set, weather permitting. As luck would have it, the first day we had a significant amount of wind and rain, so the job was postponed to the next day, which turned out to be perfect. Ron was the one to call and confirm the switch to day two. On the day of the job, the crew of six arrived bright and early and began the unloading of ladders, tools, tarps, etc. and draped all of the front and back of the house with the protective tarps. The dumpster was already in place in the driveway (delivered the day before), and the removal of the two layers of roofing shingles began. A dedicated man on the ground was constantly cleaning up all day long, and they made short work of the roof removal. The workers assessed the roof decking and found it to be solid. Just in time, the shingle delivery was made, and the new shingles boomed up to the roof for the pallets to be unpacked. The drip edges, ice and water barrier underlayment was installed, along with the dedicated starter shingles and then the shingle installation began. As a result of the number of crew members, the men shingling on both the front and backs simultaneously went quickly. A cupola with a weathervane had to be removed and replaced, which was handled. Seeing that things were progressing so quickly, Ron suggested replacing the OSB roofing and shingles on our shed, as the many years of shore atmosphere and the 45-year-old materials were showing their age. We agreed to this and they made quick work of it. As stated earlier, clean up was constantly going on and with the job completed, they went around with multiple magnetic nail sweepers. They started at 7:30 am and were done and driving away at 1:15 pm. By 1:40 pm, the dumpster was removed from the driveway. Seeing that the house had been aluminum sided haphazardly by the previous owner, the gable attic vents not only needed to be replaced, but the aluminum siding taken off and trimmed to size the new vents. On the fly, Ron was able to arrange for his siding person to come out and perform the necessary work the next morning. Again, this two-man crew did an amazing job with this. We're very happy with everything. When they left, the cleanup was done so excellently, that it looked like they were never there. Being a first time homeowner of a 23 year dream home I felt like I was immediately thrust into a whirlwind of upfront maintenance and replacement projects that could be daunting to prioritize. It was pretty clear to me early on though that keeping outside weather elements (water, wind) and wood eating critters from entering your home is the utmost priority. From our thorough home inspection, we knew that our roof was not properly installed evidenced by already softened and water marked roofing plywood from water leaking around deteriorated pipe boots of infinite vents and PVC pipes that penetrate our roof. We were lucky though that our ceiling joists, wall frame, insulation, etc. was intact, but the roof has to be replaced to prevent more costly replacements down the line. I made many phone calls to referrals and highly rated roofing companies on Yelp and Google and Sharone (or Ron) at Green Apple roofing in NJ was clearly the front runner. Ron (the owner) answered my call and he was naturally personable and we talked about my roofing situation and his/my kid(s). He came for a consultation the next day. When I met Ron, it is clear that he is passionate about his work. He showed my husband and I pictures of how roofing components are layered on the wood board before the shingles are placed per GAF lifetime roofing system to further shield from wind and water elements. He inspected some of the other problem areas on my aging roof. This guy is an absolute nightmare!!! He gives me a quote on my roof and solar reinstall and I agree to pay him his full price. He does the roof and puts the system back on and it leaks worse than before, after months of trying every BS hack job fix he finally comes out to redo the roof and the same thing happens again!!!!!!! He know refuses to honor any warranty on the job and will not give a refund. I'm out over $17,000 on a roof and untold thousands in lost electrical savings. I was extremely impressed with the professionalism of Green Apple Roofing. I e-mailed the company for an estimate, and received a call back within 24 hours to schedule an appointment. We set up an appointment for the next day.This was remarkable, because I'd spent 2 months calling other companies and contractors, on the recommendation of friends--none of those contractors could even be bothered to call me back! Sharone, the president of GAR, personally came and examined my roof, including using a drone to take aerial photos to estimate the cost. He clearly explained all the work to be done.
