Greek salad with well done gyro meat
Nancy B.

First time here. We will definitely be back. I had a Greek salad with gyro meat and it was the best gyro meat I've had in a long time. I also had a chicken skewer that was very good. The staff was friendly and helpful. I felt the prices were fair on the whole. My only complaint would be that my 6 year old granddaughter was charged $15.00 for a cheeseburger and fries. No way she will ever eat more than maybe a third of it. There needs to be a children's burger. That took off a star. Offer a burger kids meal and get the other star.

When in the mood for Greek this place has been hitting the spot. I love when a place offers Moussaka because theres more to Greek food that gyros. My favorite the chicken lemon soup. Hits the spot everytime! I opted for spicy feta side. But it wasnt too spicy. My husband ordered the gyro platter ans was too full to eat his salad! The baklava was okay i was expecting it to have more syrupy consistency. We ordered online and did pickup. Everything was ready when it was expected for pickup. Everything was hot and accurate. I just wish the moussaka didnt have burned edges

If not for a Groupon, I wouldn't even know this place existed. Apparently, there are several locations. This is a small, fast casual restaurant (can seat about 10 ppl). Counter service; no waiter service. They have all the basics: Gyros, Souvlaki, Salads, Dips/Spreads, etc. Something for everyone! Is it the Best Greek food I've ever had?...No, definitely not, but a great option if you're looking for a quick, casual meal. They even have $13.95 lunch specials Mon to Fri; 11-4pm. Items we've tried: - Greek Salad ($14.95/Large): fresh n tasty; ask for dressing on the side. Comes with warm Pita bread. - Gyro meat ($6 add-on): we added it to our Greek salad. It was tasty but it didn't include any Tzatziki Sauce. Had we known, we would have ordered some. - Pork Souvlaki platter w.lemon potatoes, chicken lemon rice soup, pita bread and Tzatziki Sauce ($20.95): this platter was huge and delicious. It came with 3 delicious skewers of pork. The soup and lemon potatoes were great! And the warm pita really hit the spot. Recommended if you're looking for a quick, casual meal. Lots of construction going on in the plaza that this restaurant is located in, but it was an easy in and out. Customer service was fantastic! Both times we went, the young ladies at the register were very patient, friendly and efficient.

Had a great dinner here with my family. The young man at the counter was very nice as we ordered. They pack everything to go which I think is a little weird when we planned to eat in. But at least it was easy to bring everything home since we couldn't finish the large portions. It's small because they're counting on people carrying out. But it's brought and nice with a few tables. The gyro meat is delicious! I had a pork souvlaki platter and it was so good. Very good for the money. I enjoyed two of the three skewers, rice, and pita. I was so full I didn't even start the soup. We'll definitely be back!

This is still one of my favorite places to get Greek food! We usually get it delivered but today we decided to order and pick up in store. The store is so nice and clean, with about 10 seats for indoor dining. Throughout the time that we were there, there's a steady stream of delivery and pick ups, so you know the neighborhood loves it!

When you're a business traveler or managing a busy life style, you probably consider yourself a (fast) foodie. But when you are attempting to improve your diet and it seems the only option on the road trip or a busy week is a burger or starvation, what other choices are there? Greek Xpress is a perfect alternative instead of the fast food burger joints and has been my favorite stop when I have been on the run or too busy to cook a nutritious meal. Greek food is unassuming, vibrant and exceptionally nutritious. Greek food is considered to be heart healthy because their dishes work with herbs, olive oil, fish, grain, vegetables and lean meats. Oh, and of course especially Lemon! Some of my favorite dishes include Pastitsio, Moussaka, Spanakopita, and Souvlaki. At Greek Xpress, one could capture the wonderful flavors of Greece in a "fast food" concept, while gaining the essence of true Greek Mediterranean dining. Gyro pork and chicken souvlaki, Greek salads, or grilled Octopus are just a few of my favorites at Greek Xpress. But there is always room for Greek deserts. How can you resist Baklava or Galaktoboureko? I cannot.

Got the chicken pita lunch special. They provide a lot of chicken, onions, tomatoes, and fries with the special. Food came out quick and staff was helpful. Good quick greek food. Comfy seats there too.

Seriously undercooked salmon.

Asked for a Greek salad with a well done Salmon add on to go. Go home and the Salmon was raw inside. Disgusting, had to go back and ask for my money back. Never going back. And the Manager had some nasty thing coming out of his nose.

Typical Greek food that can be found in Astoria 1/2 price. Too expensive for processed way too salty mystery gyro meat.

I'll start by saying that aesthetically, everything looks amazing and the portions are huge. The menu is interesting. There wasn't SO much that I wanted (a strange amount of Panko-breaded options) but ultimately settled on the Pegasus wrap (which I see now isn't even on the menu on the website but is orderable?). It's essentially a lamb gyro wrap with French fries, onions, and spicy feta sauce. The lamb gyro I felt was a bit lacking in both seasoning and amount. I'll never really support raw onions in a dish, so that was a bummer. But what I think really ruined this wrap for me was the spicy feta sauce. I'm not totally sure the thought process behind this choice, but it doesn't work for this combination of ingredients. And I can handle spicy pretty well but this was really quite spicy. I would have much preferred a normal feta/tzatziki combo. And the French fries in every wrap/sandwich is a choice and kind of overpowered the other ingredients. That being said, I would consider going back for something else on the menu because the prices (especially for the portion) is nice.

During our interaction we found out that Avli has another location in Bayside NY and this location was opened 2 years ago. When the order was ready, they brought the food out to us. We had the lamb gyro. This a huge meal, a delicious looking masterpiece that was assembled well and I found it very satisfying. This was an all lamb gyro, other places sell mixed lamb and beef. Four stars because some of the entrees didn't wow me as much (e.g., the moussaka, pasticcio platter) and the soups that were sides were solid but nothing I'd go out of the way. Once DJ George gets behind the turntables, the energy stays high all night long. My advice? Make a dinner reservation and arrive early. Around 9 PM, this place transforms from an upscale restaurant into a full-blown party. The vibe is elegant, sexy, and energetic. The lighting is always on point, the crowd comes dressed to impress, and the atmosphere is electric. As for the food, it's consistently good. The Kyma Chips, Crab Cakes, Keftedes, and Branzino are all must-orders. Once the bottles start coming out, expect sparklers flying, napkins in the air, and everyone on their feet. One heads-up: as the night goes on, you'll occasionally run into a few people who let the alcohol go to their heads and forget how to act. We started with a lunch option, consisting of the Spanakopita (flaky and generously filled with spinach and feta) and a Greek Salad (fresh with lightly dressed vegetables). We couldn't leave without trying dessert, so we ordered the Orange Cake. At first, the texture hit differently; if I can compare it to anything, it would be close to bread pudding - it was moist but not overly wet. After the first bite, we didn't want to stop eating it. The flavors were divine. Our server, Jocelyn was a tremendous help; she was personable, attentive, and thoughtful, considering our needs before we even asked. During this time, we asked for extra bread and clarification, but the servers seemed unsure and kept pointing at each other, which was frustrating. Later, a manager explained that the delay was due to our ordering moussaka, but if the kitchen was overwhelmed, they could have let us know. We're reasonable guests, but their explanations felt lacking. Overall, the service was quite poor. To make matters worse, they added a 20% gratuity charge--something we usually tip pretty well even though service is too bad to tip. But I don't expect to tip 20% to this horrible service.
