I absolutely love this little restaurant. I love the old Greek guys working the counter and taking your order. I always order the gyro which never disappoints. Meat is hot with lettuce, tomato, and onions cold, just like its supposed to be. The only negative for this place is they tend to get overwhelmed with phone orders. Sometimes I call ahead for take out and I get a busy tone. When was the last time you heard a busy tone? For Pete's sake guys join us in the 21st century and get a better phone system with several lines. read more

Cute and delicious spot. My husband and I had dinner here on Friday night. We got seated right away. The atmosphere is cute with feelings of what seems like authentic Greek food. We got the grilled octopus, stuffed portobello mushroom, grilled chicken, and lamb gyro. Everything was delicious. Especially their fries lol. The only negative thing we went through was that there was a long wait between our appetizer and entrees. But our waitress was kind enough to apologize for the wait once our food came out and so was the older gentleman who seemed liked the owner. YUM! YUM! YUM! Love this place! My old boss was Greek so I ordered a few platters of their cookies/pastries for an office party and I scored brownie points. She was impressed and said they beat her place in Astoria! Their Taramasolata (sp?), OMG, absolutely delicious. And their Avgno Lemono soup is sinful and the best I've ever tasted. Loaded with fresh dill and served with warmed pita. I popped in there over in January when I had a horrible cold and laryngitis and ordered a bowl. The charming older Greek fellow (owner) gave me a container to take home for free and told me to get plenty of rest! Fresh meats, fresh veggies...the gyros, etc., are all delicious - as is the spanakopita (loaded w/fresh dill!!). Am really glad they expanded! Have you been in since the renovations? I feel like I just walked into what is supposed to be portrayed as Greece. Colorful, Open, Airy, and ample seating. WHAT A HUGE CHANGE! Luckily, not everything changed: the food is still as awesome as it was in the past. Their moussaka is delicious. Their chicken souvlaki platter comes with Greek salad. There's a large disconnect between its popularity on Yelp and its popularity in reality. The primarily competition, Lefteris Gyro in Yonkers (and throughout Westchester) and Christos Gyro down the hill in Kingsbridge, outclasses Greek Express in quality of the food, portion size, speed of service, and, most glaringly, price. read more

So being Greek I feel like I always have the "bet you can't beat my grandma's" attitude when it comes to greek food. Greek express gave grandma a run for her money! Only tried them for take-out, but they were fast and efficient and the Gyro sandwich was fantastic. It was made with lamb, as it should be. It filled the whole car with a wonderful aroma that made everyone wish they were eating that Gyro. All the food coming out of the kitchen looked fresh and delicious. This place deserves a much more creative and expressive name to fit their grub. "Greek Express" sounds like the sort of late night, beer-soaked, belly-buster I regularly encountered while living in the U.K. This place, however, is top notch. Orzo salad is amazing; theGreek salad is bar-none the best I've had; the staff is the real deal; they take the time to learn your name (even when ordering over the phone) and make a point of referring to "insert your name," frequently. I've previously given this place 4 stars, but the last two orders I've had have made me re-think that. I hate to say this, but every time I order take-out from here and the father answers the phone, I say to myself "expect mediocre food". I feel as if the son makes much better food (my most memorable experiences have generally been when the son was running the show and making the food) and also makes it faster. Part of the issue could be that it takes so long for the father to get the food out that by the time it arrives it isn't as hot. For example, if french fries sit for too long, they become soggy and not nearly as enjoyable, as has been the case the last few times I've ordered. Additionally, I'm taking off one star because the African delivery guy (there are two of them, and of late I've gotten the African guy) can be rather rude. For some reason, it's always a big deal to provide me the itemized receipt. When I asked for it this time (it was clearly in view), he stated that he already gave me a receipt (the credit card receipt, which is not itemized), and then I insisted that I receive the itemized one, and he acted as if he didn't know what I was talking about, then finally relinquished and gave it to me, but I can tell he wasn't pleased, as if I was doing him a disservice. There has to be some reason why they don't like providing that (this has been a problem since I started ordering from this place years ago), and I don't like the attitude that I receive from him when I ask for it, nor his snotty disposition in general when dealing with him. It had been several months since the last time I ordered from here due to a horrendous experience, and after today's situation, it may be yet a while before I order from here. The food was just mediocre at best today (ordered a gyro deluxe sandwich with fries, a halloumi cheese side, and a zucchini croquette side). The halloumi cheese tasted too salty (in other words, saltier than usual) and the croquettes were just ok. I've noted in my previous review that the prices went up, as did the credit/debit card minimum (now $20.00). I now spend around or over $30.00 each time I order from here, and for that price, the food needs to be memorable, and of late it hasn't. My previous order was a disaster. I asked for two gyro deluxes (a gyro sandwich with fries) for me and a friend who was here at the time, and received the wrong thing. I knew something was wrong when the total was much higher than expected. I immediately checked the bag and informed them of the wrong order while the delivery guy was here (it was again the same African guy I mentioned above). The girl on the phone who botched the original order agreed to give us the right one, but then acted as if it was our fault for botching up the order when it was her who made the mistake. On top of that the delivery guy started to become irritated as he had to wait until they figured out how to correct the mess at the restaurant. Then they told us they wanted the food back, which I complied with. The delivery guy came back quickly, but it was certainly a hostile environment on both sides. They seemed to be irritated at us for their screw up, and we were just as annoyed for the error and long wait, as we were hungry. Given the two latest experiences, I'd say this is strike two before I can consider not ordering from this place at all, which is a shame because as a Riverdalian, I strive to support our local businesses here in Riverdale. read more

Very fresh, very delicious, very authentic, and very affordable. I've said it before, and I'll continue to say it until it's no longer true, good Greek food is very difficult to find. We found it... again... thanks in part to yelp! I had the chicken souvlaki platter and Julian M. had a gyro sandwich. Mine came with a greek salad, and french fries. The greek salad dressing was the best I've had. Unfortunately, the fries were great too, particularly when drenched in their delicious tzatziki. We also had the spanakopita, and the avgolemeno. The spanakopita filling was amazing... perfect. The filo left some crispiness to be desired. There are no words for the avgolemeno, it was above and beyond. The owner was the sweetest old man, who came out of the kitchen to ask us what we thought about every dish we ordered. I love him, and I love Greek Express. I wish we lived closer. read more

5 stars goes to the extremely old Greek man who was our waiter, he was funny , gentle and helpful going for a vegetarian choice. The vegetarian platter is enough for two and its $15 bucks. No high chairs for my daughter but the place is so small you should leave the kids at home or go to salvatores across the street, where you will have to deal with an unattentive order taker. After reading the reviews on Yelp, couldn't get the falafel out of my mind. Went with my daughter, I had falafel, she had a gyro. Both were fresh, delicious. Store is tiny but comfortable. Prices are reasonable. I brought a piece of baklava home - small but VERY good and fresh. Good healthy lunch for 2 for $10! Friendly people. We will definitely be back. read more

This has been a personal favorite restaurant of mine for a long time! Every dish is made with fresh ingredients, and it's all delicious. They offer lighter and heavier dishes alike and you get a lot for what you pay for. Delivery definitely can take longer so I suggest just going in to pick up the food.
