She started as my midwife but quickly turned into my doula since a home birth wasn't recommended due to gestational diabetes's. She gave me information and guidance to help me stay off insulin and medication. Vanessa really cared about what "I" wanted and that was a breath of fresh air considering all the other OBs and midwifes I saw in the area like to tell me what I was going to do. Not a single appointment was ever rushed; my questions were answered and I felt informed and empowered at every step. The attention not just to my pregnancy but to me as an individual was beyond compare. I have never felt more seen or heard during a major life event than I did with Vanessa's care. My fourth pregnancy had sudden complications at the very end and Vanessa was quick to pick up on my need for a hospital setting, without ever casting fear or doubt my way. She then operated in a doula capacity in the hospital, helping to facilitate a wonderful birthing experience despite it not being my dream home birth. But after that, I knew I wanted to home birth for any future kids. I used Trinity Midwifery for two home births after that, and if I have any more, they'll be the ones I call. Vanessa, Jessy, and Olivia are absolutely incredible to work with. I also had the pleasure of having a guest Midwife Ranee on board with my second home birth. The team at Trinity Midwifery is extremely knowledgeable, professional, and caring. Consent is a staple in their care and they will ask consent before touching you or taking vitals. Informed consent is very important to them and they will make sure you understand every option, medication, procedure, etc in full, including any risks and benefits before you give consent to them. They will not persuade or coerce you in any way, the choice for anything is yours. They are highly trained and can tell where you are in labor just by watching and listening. They know where baby is at just by palpating your belly and know if baby is mal-positioned and know maneuvers to put you in to correct it. They are extremely intuitive to you as a birthing mom and can tell if something isn't right and believe in you as the birthing mom to know your body and baby and listen and believe you if you think something intuitively isn't right. They are there throughout your labor as physical and emotional support. They will make you food, drinks, prepare your birth space, get you cold or warm compress cloths and use them, help keep the pool water warm, give counter pressure for pain relief, suggest positions and movement for labor, whatever you need. They will help direct dad if he's catching the baby. They are highly respectful of your birth space and make sure you are comfortable and everything is perfect for you. Music, lighting, aromatherapy, candles, they'll help make your birth space your own personal paradise. Your postpartum period right after birth is yours to direct, whether you want to wait an hour or two to cut the cord, or want to do placenta prints or want to do heel prick a week later or not at all, whatever you decide, they'll honor and respect it. Their mannerisms are calm, quiet, and gentle. Their support in labor is incredible and they'll remind you to breathe, relax your body, have low vocal tones, hold your hand, and keep you grounded in all of your moments of birth. They'll remind you with gentle affirmations that you can do this, and you are doing it. They are also there for support and education prenatally and postpartum. Even my prenatal and postpartum visits are a world of difference in care and expertise vs when I used to use an obgyn or even hospital based midwives. Overall, this team is the only one I would trust with my births, and I believe that every family deserves the incredible service they provide. My labors and births with them are the highlights of my life and I thank them for such beautiful birth experiences. I felt safe, cared for, supported, educated, and loved. When my husband and I found out we were pregnant, we felt uninformed about the birthing process and…read moreonly knew what most deem a "normal" hospital delivery. We have heard of women giving birth unmedicated and wanted to learn more about our options. We reached out to Colleen for support after she came recommended from a work colleague and friend. Upon an initial virtual visit with Colleen, we immediately felt a sense of comfort and empowerment. She supplied us with a plethora of resources to grow our knowledge of evidence-based births that contradicted much of the "mainstream" information that we have received. Colleen guided us in four major ways. The first was to set a foundation to prepare us for the birth of our daughter. She introduced us to Evidence Based Births, Hypnobirthing, Spinning Babies, and other holistic approaches to prepare for labor. She met with us in person to understand our goals, teach birthing techniques and baby basics class! Second, Colleen supported my emotional needs. I am naturally an anxious individual and seek feelings of security in my experiences and with whom I meet. My trust and confidence in Colleen only grew over the course of my pregnancy. She was always accessible when I had a question or needed reassurance. Not only did she answer my questions, but she provided us with articles, links and/or resources. Additionally, her prenatal and postnatal groups fostered a sense of community among the women with whom she works. Third, Colleen helped make the labor and delivery of our daughter what we imagined. Colleen was in contact with my husband from the beginning of my labor to guide us through every step. When she arrived, my husband said I bolted straight for her! Both my husband and I were overall more relaxed and comfortable knowing Colleen was there. She is highly knowledgeable about techniques to help women through surges and deliver without an epidural. She helped us advocate for the experience we envisioned by expressing my birth plan to then nurses when I was unable to do so. I genuinely believe I may not have been successful in my goal of an unmedicated birth without Colleen. Finally, Colleen supported us in the fourth trimester, which many do not hear about or prepare for. She visited with us and discussed my experience giving birth. I almost gave up on breastfeeding more times than I can count. Colleen made me feel like whatever decision I chose regarding breastfeeding was OK and provided encouragement to help me continue as well. She was 100% right to wait until the 3-week mark! I am still breastfeeding now and have successfully started feeding a bottle (with Colleen's suggestions to ensure she wouldn't reject breastfeeding). Colleen also provides an additional service of encapsulating placentas, which we elected to do. I can honestly say I initially did not believe I would feel a difference when taking the pills, but I felt more energized and more emotionally regulated when taking them (opposed to missing a dose). I can say that I appreciate Colleen and what she has done to support us more than she will ever know! While I have known Colleen for about a year, I feel as though I will have a connection with her for life! If my husband and I have more children, there is not doubt Colleen will be present for their births as well.

Informative, empowering, respectful, approachable, individual, caring, encouraging. But, at this point I've had my baby. I had a natural (no epi, no pitosin, etc..) birth at a major hospital. It was an amazing experience (seriously) and I owe that in large part to Zina's teaching and guidance. This is how Zina's classes helped: 1. My husband and I had learned what was happening at different stages of the birth process, and could make informed decisions once we got to the hospital, we didn't feel like we were being told what to do and instead were an active part of the decision-making process. 2. I felt confident and excited, instead of apprehensive and scared (if left to my own devices, I'd just feel scared). This made such a difference. 3. Probably the biggest difference was that when the time came, my husband and I were a team. It's natural for a partner to want to help, but oftentimes it's hard to know how, especially with how birth is portrayed in movies. Zina's class gave us a 'toolkit,' and having those options and ideas at the ready for when you don't really have time to think was key.

From helping us…read moreset up the nursery and giving us tips about our furniture and room arrangement to teaching us how to swaddle and wear our baby to giving our dog lots of supplementary cuddles to reassuring us that we're doing everything right, Colleen's support was welcome and incredibly useful. Being able to nap and come out to a happy baby and a clean kitchen is priceless! We really appreciated Colleen's expertise and sense of humor, and kindness in never making us feel silly despite having no idea what we were doing. She was awesome prenatally - I had…read morea stubborn placenta previa and didn't know whether I would need a c-section or not until I was nearly 35 weeks along. She provided a lot of information, thoughts, and reassurance during those months of uncertainty and anxiety, but she was also fantastic during labor. You know when someone just somehow *knows* what to do? Where on your back to rub and what words you need to hear? That was her! Bethany is also the reason my daughter wasn't born in the car, or (accidentally) at home in my living room! She knew when I needed to go to the birth center, even though I was worried it was too early (it was NOT too early - baby was born an hour after arriving at the birth center). And, as others have mentioned, her photographs are a great bonus! I have some beautiful photos of me and my husband shortly before my daughter was born that I will always treasure. If I were going to have another baby, I'd hire Bethany again in a heartbeat.
