Stay away! Owner refused to return my deposit after I canceled my service request. And he didn't even have the courtesy to call me after several calls, and email. I was happy with the arborist Troy Lampenfield who had done some expensive treatments on our tree in the past. The water company cased severe damage. I sent in a $300. deposit and a day or so later discovered the tree contracted a fatal fungus making further treatment useless. When I called to cancel they said the deposit was non-refundable. Their bid for removal was $13,000. I got 2 other bids from A+ Better business companies with excellent reviews: $5,000. and $4,800. The company I hired came out as scheduled with all their own expensive equipment and $1M. insurance and did a great job. Do your research before you hire someone. If you read many reviews you'll see the owner responds to bad reviews by dismissing and complaining. I thought, well some customers are just complainers, but now I know better. read more

This is the second time I was going to use Greater Pittsburgh Tree Service. A tree came down on my house so I requested an estimate - it wasn't a free estimate like other companies - I was charged $129. I was ready to use their service, and was told I had to pay a deposit of $3,600 - which I did reluctantly. My insurance company then chose another vendor who bid the job $10,000 LOWER than Greater Pittsburgh Tree Service. I requested a refund of the deposits, but was declined. I then found out from my insurance company that I should not have had to pay for an estimate nor a down payment as most contractors are paid directly by the insurance company. Lesson learned. Providing this review to save someone else the pain of losing so much money. read more

Did a great job taking out a monster pine in our front yard. They ground up the stump and roots and even got another root that someone else had left behind when I asked them. They did the work for the exact price I was quoted. Showed up at the exact minute they said they would. They finished on time, if not a little early. My neighbors are now hiring them too! read more

I have no turn around, no trespassing signs on my property, yet they ignored them and used my driveway anyway. I confronted him saying people have been damaging my property but he didn't seem to care read more

Not even a customer, but my neighbor used their services and they left a pile of dead branches and debris on my property. I called several times and was told that they would send someone out. A week later JIM walks onto my property, fails to introduce himself, and claims that the debris will not be cleaned up and it is my responsibility because my side of the property was not maintained. He then yelled at me, telling me that my neighbor spent $15,000 on this job and threatened me that if I take it to court and I will be responsible for part of the cost. He did not present me with any literature or city permit and claimed his app knows where my property line is. I would avoid them at all costs, especially that I am not a customer and I do not appreciate being talked to in an unprofessional manner on my own private property. read more

You recently cut trees down at my father's house. Because he is a WW2 Veteran you did it for free. What an AMAZING gift you have given him. I can't thank you enough. Class Act indeed!!! read more

Whoa. This tree service clearly only wants business if you don't ask "how much?" Wonder why? Well, their resale lumber for sale is 2-3x more expensive than market -- Imagine what the cost of their labor would be. Imagine -- yup, that's what you will have to do. When questioned about providing pricing we were called "morons." Even better, they committed it to an online message, so it will be memorialized for all to see. Stay away! read more

Greater Pitt Tree Service (GPTS) performed exactly as I would have hoped. My wife and I received an initial estimate then waited several months as we debated what to do about the "declining" cherry tree in our back yard. Ultimately we decided that we'd rather have the declining cherry trimmed rather than completely removed - we just couldn't let it go though we recognize it will have to be removed eventually. GPTS was happy to come out and adjust the estimate (at no further cost) to reflect trimming rather than removal of the declining cherry. Scheduling and interacting with GPTS was easy despite my demanding work schedule and small child at home; we played a bit of phone tag and got it worked out. We had a specific date range in mind that GPTS was able to accommodate (one tree that needed to be removed sat on our neighbor's property, and they were planning to be out of town one specific week so we wanted to schedule the removal for that time window). On the day that GPTS came to do the work I had to let them into our back yard and move my cars out of my driveway but other than that they did the job, cleaned up nicely, and left with no further input from us (again very helpful given our busy schedules). I would use GPTS again in a heartbeat and recommend them highly. read more

Treated one of my neighbors badly by refusing to move their truck out of a handicapped spot the neighbor's mother needed to use. Only moved once the neighbor called the police. Can't imagine the quality of their work is much better than their interpersonal skills. read more

I have called various tree services over the years when a tree cutting job was just too big for me to handle with my 16 chain saw - but nobody treated me as good as when I called Carlos from Greater Pitt. He was quick to get back to me, friendly, reasonably priced (honestly about half the price of some other tree cutting companies in my area) AND he did the job over the phone! He didnt ask for any money via credit card, not even a down payment. He said "pay us tomorrow". Wow! When I came home from work the job was done neatly and correctly with no hassles or worry. I will definitely use Greater Pittsburgh Tree Service again when the time arises. read more

Greater Pitt Tree Service - The tree that Carlos cut down was dying and too close to my porch - blocking my view of the back yard. - Tree Services Near Me - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Had these guys come out last year for multiple trees to be taken down and cut up. He came to our home quickly for an estimate, and completed the job quickly as well. The trees were taken down, no damage to the property, the price was high, but fair given the number of trees that had to be addressed. The fallen trees were not cut up as promised, so we still have a massive pile of (now rotting) trees in our backyard. He took liberties of grinding stumps and cutting parts of trees that we did not ask him to (this was NOT helpful, but rather disappointing). He also left a huge pile of wood chips and made it seem like he was doing us a favor.....it took months for us to move all of it and compost it! When he never returned to cut up the pile of wood, we inquired about it. He gave excuses, and then began with a vicious text tirade pages long of obscenities, profanities and insults to my husband and I. I eventually had to block the man because it was so offensive and abusive. We would have likely used them again had he not flown off the handle like that. It was rather scary. read more

Talked to Lisa the office manager told her what the problem was and she told me someone would call back, they called back right away, great service and very reasonable I would definitely use them again. read more

Avoid these lying, sociopathic, cretins at all costs. They talk a good game up front and throw out a decent price, but you get what you pay for. They can't manage their people or resources, cause damage, take unnecessary risks, leave a mess, don't finish jobs, and then try to blame the homeowners for it all. Seriously can't understand how these people are still in business. read more

Told by Mike that he would give us an estimate on a specific day and time frame. No show. Turns up the next day telling me he was busy ( not my problem) and that he called. Not true- have caller ID- work from home. Poor business practice. Don't waste your time. Don't expect that they will be in business long with the way they practice! read more

A very unprofessional company. Uses a lot of profanity while working and while dealing with the customer. Does not show up when scheduled and then shows up when they feel like it. They leave a mess and will not clean up after themselves. I would never recommend this company for any services they are scam artists and should be avoided at all costs. read more

We had a giant oak tree and had 5 previous bids that never showed. Greater Pitt same with a full crew and a great price. They were all friendly and respectable. It was impressive to see the owner out there doing the work himself with his guys. Hard to imagine it's the same company that received the bad reviews. read more

terrible! The crew argued the entire time! One guy threw up in the yard. Asked for cash to pay the crew and didn't even pay them hence more arguing and yelling. I was embarrassed and couldn't wait for them to leave. Trucks left oil stains in driveway. Wanted to use bathroom in house to which I agreed and my kid said she heard the medicine cabinet open which was strange. Shady outfit, tried to hustle me saying that their saws hit metal and I would be responsible for damage. I refused saying that before work began I pointed out all metal and even painted it fluorescent orange and told worker that was cutting tree where it was and he acknowledged understanding of. They wrecked my railroad tie wall but I didn't care, I just wanted them gone. Don't ever hire this group! read more

I paid these guys $2500.00 dollars to remove 5 trees. Pretty good deal, right?! ...WRONG! After they removed the trees, they asked me to use a shovel so they could do some cleanup. I opened my garage door and let them use my snow shovel to pick up debris. After they were done using it they gave it back to me and i handed them a $2500.00 check. I went back into my house and was walking past my living room window when i noticed one of their guys running back into my open garage, and grabbing my snow shovel, and throwing it into their truck and taking off with it... I immediately called the owner and told him and he said that his guys probably thought it was his and took it, and he would bring it back the next day. I also noticed , pizza boxes, pizza crust, banana peels, and sandwich baggies scattered all over my front lawn.... This was November of 2014. It is now Feb 2015 and after continuous calls to his company and continuous promises to bring me my property i am left with nothing. I bought a new shovel but am still extremely p***** at the audacity of this company. They are absolute scum bags. Stay far away from these guys. Who knows what they will take from you when you're not looking. read more
