Preface to this review - I am a MA licensed Construction Supervisor, and I am a Project Superintendent for large commercial projects for a Boston-area general contractor, so I speak from considerable experience with roofing contractors. In mid January 2020, I signed a deal for a solar power system, contingent upon replacement of my old roof. The solar company recommended Greater Boston Roofing, a company they had frequently worked with. I agreed, and they completed the job on January 29th. The company did a fantastic job. The crew was courteous, professional, and efficient. They treated my property with care, and performed the entire job in one day; almost exactly eight hours. The comprehensive project included the following: 1. Stripping all existing roofing 2. Removing two roof-mounted bathroom exhaust vents, re-routing the associated flex duct to soffit vents (to make that space available for a solar panel), and eliminating the holes by replacing that sheet of plywood - not just little patches 3. New ice & water shield 4. New air, vapor, and water barrier 5. New drip edge 6. New pipe boots on my plumbing and furnace vents 7. New chimney flashing 8. New ridge vent 9. New architectural shingles 10. Removal of all trash; the dumpster was gone by 7:30 the next morning When the crew arrived, the foreman discussed the job with me. I made him aware of a couple of details that I expected - one that was promised to me, and one that hadn't been previously discussed. He took care of both of them without dispute and without asking for a change order. Safety - the crew followed proper safety protocol, including: 1. Installing temporary tie-off anchors at the ridge, and clipping on with ropes, rope grabs, lanyards, and harnesses. 2. Using a motorized ladder-climbing device to hoist the materials to the roof, eliminating the potential hazard of climbing the ladder while carrying a heavy load. 3. Wearing a Tyvek-type suit and full-face respirator while working around the multiple layers of insulation in the attic to re-route the bath exhaust ducts. Clean-up: 1. A dumpster was delivered shortly before the work started, and was placed exactly where I had previously instructed GBR to place it, with wood placed under the wheels to prevent damage to my driveway. 2. The crew set up large tarps to protect the house and my landscaping, and to facilitate easy clean-up. 3. When I arrived home at the end of the day, my yard was at least as clean as when they started. 4. The dumpster was removed early the next morning. I received an e-mail saying they were done, along with a link to a series of progress photos. This crew did everything the right way. The job has been done for over two weeks now, and the roof has performed perfectly in the rain. I highly recommend Greater Boston Roofing. read more

In May 2020, Greater Boston Roofing replaced my roof, a decision made with the expectation of quality and lasting protection for my home. The replacement cost $15,000 and came with a 15-year warranty. Since the completion of this project, there have been relentless leaks. Despite attempts to fix the leaks, the issue persists. GBR initially attributed the leak to the chimney, leading to the installation of a new chimney in July 2023. However, this failed to resolve the underlying problem, as water continues to leak into my home with each rainfall. Subsequent discussions with GBR and the chimney mason highlighted a critical oversight: the failure to properly flash around the chimney during the roof replacement process. This negligence has resulted in thousands of dollars, hours of cleaning up water dripping into the living room, on the stone fireplace and the (now rust spotted) woodstove insert. The beautiful v-match pine ceiling is water stained and very likely now has mold growing in the ceiling. Despite assurances from Mr. Alexander Lappin that the issue would be promptly addressed, I have been met with only disappointment and frustration. Mr. Lappin's complete lack of responsiveness, despite countless attempts to contact him, is a testament to the unprofessionalism and negligence I have experienced for the last 4 years. I urge GBR to honor its warranty obligations and take immediate action to replace the leaking section of the roof or allow me to hire another roofing company to fix the leak and reimburse the costs. I ask that GBR will prioritize this matter with the urgency it demands, restoring my confidence in your company's workmanship and professionalism. read more

I was referred to greater Boston roofing thru my solar company (Sun Run). As a fully time inspector and part time contractor I know how important it is to do my due my own research and talk with the the potential contractor. I spoke with Lisa the office manager (a true professional) from Greater Boston Roofing She was very accommodating and extremely knowledgeable. Lisa went over of the complete process from beginning to end and the tasked to be performed. She also assisted in my color choice and warranty information. What I found most refreshing was that Lisa was my single point of contact thru the beginning stages until just prior to installation and at the completion of the project. 48 hours before the installation I had a conference call with Lisa, Alex the "Office guy" and myself. Alex confirm what Lisa and I have discussed. On the morning of the scheduled removal and installation I received a text from Selom the onsite projector manager stating they would be arrive shortly. Once he arrived we went over exactly what was to happen next and introduced me to the installation team. Most importantly for me they maintained Covid 19 protocol at all times. The job was completed as promised in the same day. The yard and driveway were cleaned up and brought back to original condition or better. This company was terrific. We live in Seacoast, NH and needed a new roof. I'm very happy that I called them, and then ultimately ended up hiring them. We got quotes from 5 business, all doing the same thing. The pricing was very reasonable and the service was excellent. Jim was our Salesman and Lisa called us from the office to make sure everything was set before the job was started. They were both great to work with. Ralph was our foreman on site, and couldn't have been better. He and his crew were here around 7:15 am. Ralph went over everything he was going to do, took extra measures to protect our hot tub and deck, kept me up to speed on the status of the job while I was at work, and provided me with ongoing pictures. They finished the same day and my property looked cleaner when they left, than it did when they arrived. This company did everything they said they would, and the bill was exactly what was quoted ( No surprises). We recently purchased our new home and our roof was in dire need of repair before putting on solar panels. Our solar panel company recommended Greater Boston Roofing and boy are we happy they did! Lisa was great in accommodating our schedule. We just had a baby and needed to change our original scheduled date. She was great to work with. As for the day of installation, again with a 2 week old baby we were nervous about the install. However we had absolutely nothing to worry about. Bill and crew were great! They arrived on time and got right to work. They took pictures of everything and even put tarps over our landscaping that could of been damaged. In preparation of installing solar on our Needham home, we contracted Greater Boston Roofing to replace a roof that was nearing its life expectancy. From the original contact with Alex and his partner Enda, to the two-day roofing job overseen by the onsite forman Peter Vincent, we could not be happier. Peter and his crew showed up when expected and the job was completed in the time originally estimated. Peter and his entire crew worked hard, worked cleanly and took care not to damage any of our newly planted landscaping. We decided to go with GBR since they took the time to explain in detail what they would constructing regarding our roof we needed to replace. James Malone was exceptional in guiding us through the process. To our surprise, they were able to obtain permits and start building a week later! The construction manager Ralph was excellent on communicating the project status and I liked how they post pictures throughout the construction. It took a full day to replace our roof and it looks great! James also came by after construction and went over the entire yard for any nails...definitely went above and beyond our expectation. I got four estimates for replacing a two layer roof. GBR was one of two who made an appointment to discuss the job in person the others just left an estimate. GBR did thorough inspection including looking in attic for problems. The quote was the lowest of all four. The job was done as scheduled. The crew worked very hard. They covered our pool and took great care to avoid damage to shrubs etc. the GBR project manager was on site the entire time. He took pictures to confirm steps were being followed. I had to get my roof repaired in the winter because my roof failed a roof inspection by my insurance company. They arrived on the day they scheduled early in the morning. The crew was very professional and did the job in two days. My neighbors commented on the workmanship and how they cleaned up after themselves.
