Wow, I'm surprised to see all these bad reviews. I used Great Western for my first Texas home loan back in 1996, and I've used them several times since for additional purchases, refinances, etc.. The latest closed one was a refinance back in 2020, was handled by Eric Allen, and it was a piece of cake. I always go back to them first since they're so easy to deal with,. Of course I check for lower rates elsewhere, but they've always been the lowest as far as I could tell so i just keep using them. They're also really helpful in general - we were thinking about trading a house that needed to be bulldozed a couple of months ago and I emailed Eric repeatedly with questions and he was always quick to answer with helpful responses, even when he was on vacation and I hadn't even applied for a loan yet. It's actually surprising how pleasant and patient he was, considering he probably gets the same questions a zillion times a day. So, I'd take the bad reviews with a grain of salt - I'm sure some people have had bad experiences, no company is perfect, and those are usually the only ones that write reviews about mortgage brokers. I'm very happy with Great Western's service and rates and strongly recommend them to anyone needing a home loan. read more

I provided the information below and asked for a loan estimate including the interest rate multiple times and I was never provided with one. My loan officer was Xavier Ybarra. What information do I have to provide a lender in order to receive a Loan Estimate? Since October 3, 2015, loan officers are required to provide you with a Loan Estimate once you have provided certain information. Loan officers are required to provide you with a Loan Estimate once you have provided: your name, your income, your Social Security number (so the lender can pull a credit report), the property address, an estimate of the value of the property, and the desired loan amount. Your loan officer cannot require you to provide documents verifying this information before providing you with a Loan Estimate. read more

I didn't even get a chance to do anything with them before they started ruining things. When I spoke with "K" on January 27, 2020, he said that they do soft credit pulls. That's fine. I received a notification of an inquiry on the 27th, then another on the 28th, and now a third this morning. I called "K" to see what was happening, because this was being done by a company they employed called Informative Research. "K" told me that it shouldn't be happening everyday, and he would have a manager call me back. In the meantime, I went on Experian and looked at my credit monitoring alerts, only to discover IR/Great Western made a HARD INQUIRY on my credit on January 27, 2020. My phone was being stupid (probably because it's raining) so I called "K" 30 minutes later asking about the phone call and additionally, the HARD INQUIRY. "K" was in a slight panic because that could "cost" him his "job" if there was a hard inquiry. "John" called me back. Instead of understanding that I was currently viewing my credit report while speaking with him, "John" continued to try to convince me from Plano, TX all the way to Florida that what I was seeing in front of my eyes was incorrect, and that there's nothing on my credit report. Instead of trying to resolve the blunder, "John" wanted to try and force feed his viewpoint on me, telling me that I needed to look at my "actual credit report" and not an app. Well "John," thank you for the sound advice dear, and for not helping me at all. If we can't even get things going without this kind of mismanagement of information and miscommunication, there is no reason to do business at all. This is a major move and it needs to be handled with care. I am retired military (20 years Navy!) and I didn't ask for a handout, but I won't be taken advantage of either. My advice, and the advice from a REALtor in my family, STAY AWAY FROM tHIS COMPANY. read more

I cannot recommend against using them enough. First, they blew our initial closing date by not asking for all of the pertinent documents up-front and instead repeatedly asking for more and more week after week until we had no time left. Then they have repeatedly asked for more and more documentation, including information that we cannot legally provide. It has been more than six months since closing and they are still harassing us. I have no reason to believe that this will not continue on for years. I have never worked with a lender so unprofessional, unorganized, and unreasonably demanding. DO NOT USE THEM! The buyer in this transaction lost their earnest money of over 2K because this lender didn't let them know their loan would not be approved until one day too late. They didn't respond to communication request, then they called and said they couldn't do the loan when it was too late. The really sad part is that another lender provided the buyers the loan and they closed okay. To this day we DO NOT know why they couldn't do the mortgage loan. read more

First off - DONT USE THIS COMPANY. Where do I start. 1st, we created our profile to upload documents. Somehow, their system allowed this to be done 3 times. Then, as we started to upload documents, they couldn't see them... but every time we looked, they were there. Hmmm. Next, we got an email from Brisa, asking if we had uploaded additional documents for Nicki. When Nicki asked for them, her email said, something along the line of, "I'm here to help, let me know if you have any questions. I did. Same day. No response, 48 hrs later. Then I get another email from Brisa asking if those documents had been uploaded. Oh, you mean the ones I had questions about that no one ever responded to? Yup, those documents. So I had to upload documents hoping they were the right ones, since no one EVER answered my questions. Next, we had to reword our letter of intent, using the exact words that we were given as the example. We did AND uploaded it. 2 days later, I get an email from Alex, asking about the document, and if it was uploaded. You mean the one that was dated and time stamped on YOUR document upload site? Yup, it was there. 1 more day later, I got another email from Brisa, telling me I uploaded the wrong document, the previous version. So, I took a screen shot of their document upload site that showed my NEW version with the time and date, and then I opened the document and took a screen shot of that one too. And yes, it was the correct one. In the in between time, Corey picked up our paper work and called my wife. Talking all kinds of bullying and threats about getting arrested and not looking good in orange jump suits. Telling us that if we don't get the documents in, we are the ones holding up the process. You mean the ones that are already uploaded? Yep, those... Bottom line, DONT USE Great Western Financial Services. Unless you want to redo documents, get bullied, and eventually NOT get your loan approved and your potential property purchased. Go SOMEWHERE ELSE. I can't even being to say what a waste of time and energy this company is. My loan process started in November 2021. Today is March 23, 2022. My loan is finally approved and will close shortly BECAUSE I WENT TO ANOTHER LENDER that would actually finish the contract. I had to pay for two appraisals since this lender took so long to NOT close the contract. Just avoid this company. read more

Very disappointed! They gave pre approval letter to a buyer to purchase a home. Buyer made an offer on a house and paid for the inspections, appraisal fee etc. After 35 days of waiting, they denied. Buyer and the seller wasted time and money by waiting for 35 days and hoping it will close. Why do you give hope and pre approval letter to someone that you won't loan? Zero, Zero, Zero. They actually recommended a particular title company to close with. We did a cash out re-fi with them. They sent a check to the wrong creditors then the paperwork we signed showed a creditor was paid off and they never were. Now I'm being sued! After contacting the title company, they're claiming it was not their account that cashed it? They're trying to claim the proceeds were forwarded to us at closing which is a lie as it clearly shows it was paid to themselves and our paperwork shows the debt was paid and NEVER was. Then they tout their disclosure agreement. Buyer BEWARE, I love being sued over a debt that was secured by my refinance job through them! read more

I made an inquiry to a realtor about a listing and in that process he suggested Great Western Co. if I obtained a mortgage. I did not use that realtor but since I had made an initial inquiry to Great Western I went ahead and used them for my mortgage. What a HUGE mistake. This company sucks. They are cold and impersonal and have a sterile, minimal contact approach to doing business. They are faceless, paper pushing robots who don't give a damn about the customer. Like 90% of all companies today they try to do as little as possible for the maximum profit. They asked for the same documents 2, 3 and 4 times over. They do not have a grasp on even the most basic concept of customer service. Then, at closing, they had not made the payment and I had to wait to finalize the closing. They do not keep you "in the loop" of your own mortgage at all. PLEASE use Quicken (who I have great service from over the years) or any other company but Great Western. read more

This was an absolute horrible company. When two other companies I was talking to tell you do NOT use them...you know it's bad. Jenna promised me up front that they can do magic, definitely take care of their customers as well as even telling me I qualified completely and strung me along for a week. As soon as she got my social..she was constantly MIA..email, text and calls. Prior to that she was always available. She lied about everything from jump. Then to top it off I get an "email" stating I now don't qualify after being told I did and then they remove my access to my account immediately and disappear...that's all they did...one email and then they all vanish! Talk about wishing I was closer. The explanation she gave with the email didn't even make sense! Do NOT use this company ...or at least do NOTT use Jenna Bannister!!!!! Her and her team have zero clue how to do loans let alone how to treat people and be professional. I turned right back around and went with one of the other two companies and figured out how to get around the hurdle and qualified...what imbeciles at Great Western. let me just start by saying how disappointing and time wasting my whole experience was with this company!!!!. the people here made me think i would close on my home 2 times! alex lux, corey allen, and gerry lopez all worked in my file, my file after alex lux was on vacation was transferred to the rest of these people and none of them even told me i could'nt apply for an fha loan even after i sent my daca information, because i'm a (daca recipient). very, very unprofessional of them not to be upfront with me as a first time buyer, even after i sent daca documentation or after sending all my documentation. they wasted my money,time and energy.. i hope no one has ever go through this i do not recommend this company at all !!!!!!!!!!!they told my agent a day before close that the underwriter "discovered after investigation" that i was a daca recipient!!! who blames it on others just to cover your tracks, that was beyond unprofessional it was disrespectful to me as a person, they made me feel like i lied just so they can cover their tracks!! by the looks of it i should off checked the crappy reviews first ! read more

These idiots did my home loan and it was a nightmare. I had to take my problems to the SVP Eric Allen and he was just as incompetent as the Alex Lut, Brittany Condry and Gerry Lopez. I asked to speak to the president at one point and it's a good thing I didn't hold my breath, because you guessed it, I'm still waiting and would be 6 feet under by now if I held my breath. It was evident to me that they knew once we got going that I didn't have many choices as to going to another lender and they made me pay for it. I was treated like a number. At one point Eric literally responded to my wife's email who's name was in the title of the email, and asked who she was. They mad mistakes at every corner and we were barely able to close. Our closing was pushed several times. Requiring us to revise plans, put off our friends and family, reschedule movers, etc. Had I not raised hell with them I would be out thousands of dollars and likely wouldn't have a house. Giving them one star because they managed to get the loan done, but even that is giving them more credit than due. If you are looking through Zillow or Realtor.com just be aware that they are a recommended vendor. Stay clear of them, they will not provide good service and make your life a living hell. Do your research and pick a good loan company. They have your life in their hands and I wouldn't trust these people with such a huge milestone in your life. You may be thinking "well they got him the loan." DON'T, THEY ARE TERRIBLE!!! read more

We applied for re-financing, and after being told that we could more than likely qualify, they set up an appraisal that cost me over $350 (out of pocket, non-refundable of course!) and then after a 3-week delay of sending paperwork...oops!!! we DIDN'T qualify! Now, over a month later, found out that they had switched over our homeowners insurance payment from being auto-paid by our current lender and so had to spend about an hour on the phone getting that corrected and now am concerned that they have done the same thing with property taxes payments. Didn't expect that trying to lower payments would result in going further in debt and dealing with hassles that were totally brought on by their lack of professionalism. If you are already dealing with them, GET OUT WHILE YOU CAN and make sure that you tell them to put things back they way they found them before you started dealing with this un -professional business. read more

Do not use this company. Problem after problem after problem. Michelle and Kristen were knowledgeable and knew how to do their job, luckily helping us to finally close our loan. I wish I could have worked with them from day one. Our original loan officer dropped the ball and let our loan sit suspended for 8 days without notifying us causing the lock to expire on top of many other delays and excuses. Today he contacts us asking for more signatures...two weeks after we already closed!!! Signatures in which we have already provided. Also, two weeks after close not all of our loans have been paid off. Save your time and sanity. Use another company. read more
