My wife and I wanted Chinese food tonight so we thought we would try Great Wall. Big mistake! Has to be the worst food I've had in town!

OVERALL - NEVER GETTING THEIR FOOD AGAIN! General Tso's Chicken - was so overcooked, and it was mostly rock hard. Sauce was a bland bbq like sauce, and I've never seen any Tso's sauce like it. Hands down WORST Tso's I've had in my life so far. Chicken Lo Mein - had no flavor other than the taste of flour. Not even the chicken. Egg Rolls - had no taste, and most of them were so full of oil. Wonton Soup - was ok. Egg Drop Soup - had good texture and color. but no flavor. Kung Po Chicken - well, they called it ckicken, but that didn't taste like chicken. I ordered pick-up from their website. I did not receive a confirmation number so I walked there to ask about it. The employee said that if I ordered from their site then they didn't have my order - I still don't understand why but I had not entered my payment method so didn't make it an issue. They took my order and said it would be ready in about 10 min. It was. I walked back to my hotel room - very short distance; approx 2 min walk. I ordered and received tofu in garlic sauce with an addition of broccoli - it came with white rice. The sauce and vegetables were good. The rice was oily. The tofu was SO oily, greasy, and overcooked. I live tofu in all preparations and this is the first time I experienced it being inedible. I ate the veggies but had to toss the tofu and most of the rice - just mixed some of the rice with the veggies to help me feel full. I was disappointed. I needed chopsticks for a project so I came here and ordered the house lo mein so as not to just steal a bunch of chopsticks. That lo mein was so good!!! It had bacon, shrimp, and chicken in addition to its outstanding flavor. I was so impressed, I came to yelp to leave a glowing review and was shocked by all the bad ones! Not sure what's going on with the other food they prepare, but the lo mein was phenomenal. I literally can't even add a picture because it was so good it was gone before I could even stop to breathe. THERE WAS A WORM IN THE FOOD Normally have a good experience, we've had a few missteps in the past but this time I don't even really know what to say. we ordered the roast pork with broccoli. There was a mealworm or some kind of grub in the food. just an actual worm, very clearly not pork, cooked into the food sitting right on top. there's an honest to god whole worm in the food. I'm having a hard time processing this as i write it because, like, how does this even happen? I called and I'm not sure if it made it across to the guy on the phone that there was a whole worm on the pork. he's sending a driver out to pick up the food and we're waiting on a refund, which is fine because it's not like I'm about to eat this. I ordered sesame chicken, fried rice, and an egg roll yesterday, and my friend ordered General Tao's, sweet and sour soup, and rice. Our chicken and egg rolls were over cooked to the point of being hard to chew with a obvious burnt taste. Soup was congealed. Fried rice tasted microwaved. Been getting take out from Great Wall for decades. The food quality has gotten inconsistent recently. I love general Tso's and Great Wall makes the best in town--mostly. Last 3 times I've there, about half the chicken was dried and tasteless. Its what happens when you serve it 4 hours after cooking it I guess. Seems like when the tray gets low they add fresh but too bad for you if you get the stuff that's been simmering all day. This establishment and its one particular female employee are trash. 4 days ago i ordered a chicken with garlic sauce lunch special; about $6. Today i checked my bank account and they charged me $12.93. I called them today at about 8:30 pm to let them know that they overcharged me. The lady who answered the phone accused me of trying to get free food and told me "to go fuck myself and fuck my mother". In 2012, i tragically lost my mother unexpectedly. Yesterday was mothers day. This is my go-to Chinese restaurant in Morgantown and has been for 2 years. I love the sesame chicken w/ fried rice and always ask for extra broccoli. The only thing I don't like is that they never take your name when you order and rarely do they thank you, so suffice it to say the service is not amazing. BUT, the portions are generous and always ready within 10 minutes, most times within 5 minutes. Love this place and highly recommend it. read more

Large portions at extremely reasonable prices. When I'm in the mood for Americanized Chinese, this is my first choice. The General Tso's and the Hunan Beef are my go-to choices, and they have never disappointed. Surprisingly good chinese food in the middle of West Virginia. Chinese people actually work here which makes it even more authentic. We were there on their grand opening of the new location. It's across the street from the old location and has seating - probably 8 or so booths. Got the mooshu pork, curry dish, hunan combination - all were very tasty and we had big portions. I really had high hopes for Great Wall. It's rare you find a Chinese takeout place with such high Yelp reviews. And when it comes to ordering from a Chinese takeout, the performance and difficulty is to be expected - so I won't comment on that part of the experience. My fiancé and I ordered the sweet and sour chicken, which was incredibly priced for the portion size ($8.65 for 8 oz. of chicken and enough white rice for two). Here's what we received in actuality: 8 oz. of chicken nuggets, a container of overcooked rice, and a separate container of sweet and sour sauce with chunks of what I hope to God were pineapple slices. My instinct, based on my decidedly unadventurous spirit when it comes to Asian cuisine, was to order the General Tso's. If I were to give Great Wall another shot, I would use the General as my litmus test, as I have so many times in the past. Nonetheless, given our disappointment, I can't see myself going that route again. For its poor quality chicken nuggets, however, I need to point out some positives. First of all, their website is impressive and easy to navigate, including a full menu with descriptions. Second of all, their location is nice and central. I'm not saying that Great Wall is worse than other Chinese joints in the area - in fact, it might be better than most - but that "better than most" rating doesn't mean a lot, I'm afraid. read more

This experience was by far the worst experience I've had with any food in Mortantown. When I called to place an order the person I talked to said that their food wasn't chineese, and that it sucks. For a worker to say that it must mean something. But I heard good things about great Wall so I still ordered something. The food was chewy, like rubber and lacked flavor. They might as well have made their food with tire rubber. They even botched the rice. it was dry, undercooked and cold. For the sake of the food gods do NOT get food from this place. Ordered delivery- My order was wrong (missing my egg roll and got white rice instead of fried) and they would not fix or refund me "because they didn't have the receipt to check the order" (I had a receipt but was working so couldn't bring it to them- hence why I got delivery in the first place!) Used to love Great Wall, but it seems like it's not been as good lately. Chili-grilled chicken is usually good, but chicken fried rice is pretty flavorless and sweet and sour chicken is often tough and gristly. Just not much flavor in anything.
