So far not good. I thought i booked a resort but apparently it's an airbnb. I hate those places. A hotel should have someone at the desk to check in. I shouldn't have to click some link randomly texted to me. Or call the phone number 4 times before I get a live person Apparently it is an airbnb because I got no housekeeping service. Now I'm wondering why I got charged a resort fee when this is not a resort. They advertise all these great TV channels but I can't even find MNF. No microwave. That's like a basic thing. I've got a mini fridge though. And apparently they never heard of ADA compliance. Why sure I'll hobble my ass up a flight of stairs with a 50lb suitcase. No dresser. Guess I'll live out of my suitcase this week. Can't find the thermostat. I have half a mind to call the property manager up. But it's 0100 and I'm feeling generous. The only place to put my laptop has no outlets available nearby. I've had to run the cord halfway across the room to connect to a 4-outlet adapter that is glued to a nightstand for some reason. So that the nightstand with a table lamp sits in the middle of the room also. read more

The hotel was very clean although our room was quite small-the photos must have been taken with a wide angle lens so that was rather misleading. Also we had booked a "lakeside queen" room -it technically was lakeside but not the side with the windows which faced the parking side of property. I guess if you want to see the water from your room you must say the words "lake view". We only stayed one night so will know for next time. There is a beautiful lobby/ sitting area with fireplace ( I never saw an actual person at front desk). If you need anything they seem to respond best by text. It may be the time of year but it was basically a couple of people that managed questions. Breakfast is self serve in lobby area with coffee etc. There is a refrigerator with juices, milk, bagels, fruits to help yourself. Overall we enjoyed our stay but will probably request a different room next time read more

We came here because our kids were at a camp nearby. Great Pines is a beautiful lodge with a great view with one problem being that the service has been terrible since we arrived. We checked in virtually and took a walk around the place and went into the "Lean In" intending to get dinner and a drink. The waitress rudely proceeded to say that we were not welcome and didn't belong at the table, that it was saved for other people who had been waiting. There were several open tables, no hostess check-ins or reserved table signs so we had no idea of whatever system she was referring to. She proceeded to complain to who looked like the manager of the place. Totally gave off vibes that we were not welcome here even though we were booked into the Honeymoon cabin, and not an outsider just coming here for a bite. The waitress could learn some manners and be nicer to customers. The manager should take a crash course in a customer service class. Even though we are here for two more days, we're sticking to our plan, but I don't think we are coming back after the poor start to our experience here. read more

Great disappointment. Unprofessional staff. Was there Four Times when it was known ad North Woods Inn. Made reservations in february of 2023 for May of 2023. Intended to bring a group of 6. Was not told of kichens closing until I called Them 5 days before arrival of my group. A conversation of CONCERNS ensued followed by a very SARCASTIC, " Have a nice day!" By a Front desk person. Called back the next morning during posted business hours and left a message requesting a call back from the OWNER(s)-- never got it. What resort would let an outstanding Reservation be uninformed for THREE MONTHS?? And not inform them UNTIL their day of arrival thus securing their deposit??? Good Luck with this Resort but, my business is done with them! read more

We spent two nights at the Great Pines Resort. It has a nice location on 4th Lake. The scenery is lovely. Outside dining and sitting is very nice. The room we had was cozy and clean. The beds were comfortable. Unfortunately the windows facing the lake are tiny. ( no view was promised.) The bathroom was small with a tiny shower. Suggestion: enlarge window in bedroom and add shelving in bathroom. Breakfast in a bag due to CoVid was fine. Overall nice place. read more

This place is just disgusting, don't waste your $$$! The room I was given was FILTHY. I was in town for a wedding and had no other options or I would've left that night. There was dust, hair, dirt and crumbs all over the air conditioner. The carpet was dirty and they left all of the windows unlocked and partially open. I arrived in the dark and was put all the way at the end of the foot path and told there was no way to drive up to unpack. Massive spiderwebs and live spiders hanging in front of the door, in the eves, and in the shower. Spider legs all over the shower walls, where someone had killed some previously and no one bothered to clean the shower after. Toothpaste on the wall behind the sink and the faucet. Mold on the sink drain stem and the shower head was just gross. Enough dust on the baseboards and wood trim you could plainly see it. That took willful blindness to not clean that much dust repeatedly. Rot and mold and one end of the shower stall with an actual mushroom growing in the bathroom. The cleaning woman banged on the door, there we NO PRIVACY signs in the room, at 10 a.m. Saturday morning like maybe I was being evicted. Sunday morning I was awoken again, this time before 9 a.m., by the same cleaning person and her CHILD banging the furniture and slamming the door to the room next to me. When checking out I mentioned the room needed a deep cleaning before going into detail. I never got to go into detail as she was flippant about my comment and was only interested in telling me how they had no control over the spiders. STEER CLEAR especially if you have asthma or arachnophobia. read more

Sigh, this place has so much potential. Now that the dust has settled I figured writing a review would help others avoid unnecessary stress. After I paid in full ahead of time ($2000~), the management/team seemed to no longer be interested in accommodating our small wedding. Their "inclusive" package is mislabeling. When we had toured the "resort" we asked about decorating the area we rented for the wedding and Hannah (the wedding planner) said, "of course!" Come to find out two days before the wedding, we weren't allowed to decorate until we were WITHIN THE HOUR of our time of the ceremony. Which meant we could only decorate the ceremony area and get married in that same hour. I asked if we can decorate earlier in the day and their wedding planner claims that decorating would "scare" other guests away from enjoying the "resort." It was a back and fourth between what I couldn't do because "x, y,z" and at some point their wedding planner suggested I was being pressured to do more and reminded me that " you only paid for the small wedding package versus booking the whole venue" and proceeds to tell me that "I don't think that's not what you want for your wedding." Not to mention, she implied I should have booked the whole venue if I wanted to decorate ahead of time. All I wanted was to decorate the ceremony area ahead of time so I could get dressed and ready for my wedding. I even suggested if I wrote a sign to let guest know they could enjoy the decorations but the management didn't want to be liable if anything broke. Then the wedding planner sent me a "kind reminder" that our contract states the time, insulting my intelligence because I "can't read." NO WHERE in the contract explicitly states that I was supposed to decorate and get married in the same hour of the ceremony time, I've included their "all inclusive package" screenshot for reference. (I read and handled multi million dollar contracts for work, I have read many contracts that are clear in disclosing information that pertinent to a customer.) Wedding day comes rolling around, we decided to not deal with the wedding planner and move the ceremony elsewhere. We kept the dinner at this venue. By the way, the "resort" was not busy on our wedding day. They could have easily let us decorate ahead of time but they did not want to deal with us. Food was ok. I would give this place 1 star but the food made up for the experience we had. We also booked two nights at their hotel, we found spiders in the bathroom and the sink was not cleaned. Not to mention they claim to offer military discount but after reminding them twice but they never adjusted our bill. Perhaps they should rename their place as Mediocre Pines Motel and restaurant. If you made this far, in reading my review I hope you will consider going else where for your big day because no one deserves to be treated like trash on their wedding day. read more

I made a reservation to stay at Great Pines today. I explained I was coming in from Miami - getting on a plane - and that it would be very late when I arrived. Additionally, I explained, I was picking up my daughter at camp and that she was ill. She tested negative for Covid as well as negative for the flu. We have both been vaccinated - for Covid (boosted as well) and vaccinated for the flu. These are details I did NOT need to provide - but I did in an abundance of caution. I was told there was no issue. The lady who took my reservation and payment info said she would make sure the evening staff was aware of my late arrival. After an 8 hour travel day, with 2 additional hours driving time, my 9 year old daughter and I (50 year old mom of 2), pulled into Great Pines at 9:30 pm. What happened next is completely beyond me... We were turned away because my daughter has a cold. I was told a message was left for me telling me that my reservation (which had already been charged) was canceled and that I would need to make other plans. That message was never received. Had it been, I would have - of course - made other arrangements. The explanation I received was that this was a precaution the hotel owners were taking in order to insure current guests and staff would not become infected with what ever bug was going around in camp. I was told the hotel was not a hospital (I wasn't under this impression). And, at 9:30 pm, my daughter and I were turned away. "John" stated his employers did not care whether or not my daughter was Covid/flu negative - only that she was from a camp. And they would not allow anyone picking up kids from camp to stay at their hotel. I was told not to take it personally.... With dark winding and unfamiliar roads and tired from my travel the day - it's difficult not to take it personally... At the very least, they could have suggested an alternate establishment. Oh - and they could have refunded the amount they charged before turning us away... But nope, they sent me an invoice with an outstanding balance any way. Upon realizing we clearly did not receive notice of their cancellation, they could have easily helped us find another accommodation in their town (every other establishment within Old Forge, NY was CLOSED). IT IS A VERY VERY small town. The night rep just shrugged and basically said it was our problem and we should have made different arrangements. Meanwhile, they sent us their invoice (we had already been charged $259) with an outstanding balance at 10:30pm - AFTER TURNING US AWAY. How is that good business? For a small lodge in a small town, one would hope for a more.. I dunno... human approach. As it was, we wound up having to drive an hour and a half on dark secluded roads to the next closest town with an available hotel. read more

This was our first time staying at this hotel.The rooms were nice. I really appreciated the fridge in the room. The bed was really comfortable. They also have a curig machine in the room. We did not have a room that faced the lake, so I can't talk about that part, but we were able to go and look at the lake. I wish the rooms had a microwave and more coffee flavor options. They only had two coffee flavors. Suggest that you bring your own curig coffee pod. Breakfast was a bit disappointing. They said that they only offer hot breakfast like eggs, pancakes, etc. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. We stayed on a weekday. They had bagels, oatmeal, granola bar's, cereal, muffins in a plastic bag(not fresh) and yogurt. We have a child that is two years old that is lactose intolerant and could not have what was offered. We tried to get oatmeal for that child and thought we could take it back to our room to make it for her with her own milk but there was no microwave in the room so she could not have it. We ended up going to a nearby restaurant, outside of the hotel, for breakfast/brunch. I think for the price we paid, all breakfast should have been available no matter what day of the week we stay. Now that I know what to expect, I would stay there again. The restaurant on site was really good. They had burgers, wraps, salads, onion rings, nachos, etc. BTW, I love that dogs can stay there. As a dog lover, I was able to pet the dogs and loved every minute of it. *There is no pool on site* read more

Pretty location, pretty main lodge....pretty disappointed. I booked a room for a pre-Valentines date night with my wife over the phone with Charlotte. Charlotte was very nice and seems to be the only one interested in the guests. I say this because we ran into each owner separately at different times, in different parts of the lodge, and neither showed any interest in speaking to us (and since it was a Thursday, there weren't many guests on site). In fact, we could barely get in the main entrance while the owners chatted up their friends about skiing the next day... and, it was the friend who greeted us and not the owner! I don't expect much, but at least act like you're glad we're there and you appreciate the business. Our $145 room court side jumped an additional $15 with the "resort fee." When I asked what I got in the middle of winter for my resort fee I was told wi-fi and coffee. Note: when we arrived around 2 pm, there were two empty burners and no coffee, no cookies, no fruit, no nothing. There was no coffee or anything else 3 hours later when we went back to the main lodge. I told this to the person manning the front desk, Hannah, and she said "just ask us to get you some coffee" .... how awkward... I should seek out someone to make me a pot of coffee??? On the way out I politely asked Charlotte about the lack of coffee, why there was never a fire in the beautiful main lodge fireplace, etc. My questions were met with excuses and no real answers. She was very nice but seemed more concerned with how much the owners had invested in the lodge rather than the customer experience. Be aware, their marketing efforts boast that they are "the Adirondacks' premier resort." There are multiple references to luxury accommodations. Their Instagram site has great photos and cool outdoorsy videos of the owners and their friends. This is what made us want to visit. It looks so nice; it isn't. This is no resort. There is no luxury anything. Yes, the main lodge is nice but the rooms are all pretty basic. Our court-side room was dingy, we got paper cups next to a Kuerig, there was no dresser, no door on the closet, the outlets were full of extension cords, we had a mushy mattress, and the so-called "Pendleton" wool blanket looked like Mr. Pendleton knitted it himself to stay warm in the trenches of WWII. If you are going to market yourself as a luxury resort and charge $160 - $350 a night, guests should get more than a less than standard hotel room. The main dining room was closed so, we ate at the Leanto - the food was decent and Gina the bartender was nice. This was probably the only positive experience we had at the "not so" Great Pines Resort. We wanted to walk around the property but not all the walks were shoveled. Odd, considering the staff was chatting around the front desk and clearly seemed to have the time to do it. Note that the front desk shuts down at 6pm yet, their press articles state they are a luxury hotel with a concierge. Good luck finding anyone on staff after 6. My impression is that this a young couple that want to say they own a resort and want to play at being innkeepers. They're failing miserably but they're too self-absorbed to notice. Their social media efforts create a great story but their Instagram photos and videos are misleading. And I surmise that all the 5 star reviews have to be their friends. They over-promise and under deliver. We won't be back...ever. read more

During these uncertain times, I definitely had some hesitation about traveling, but after staying home the past few months, my family and I needed a getaway. After past visits, we immediately knew that we wanted to head up to Great Pines for a few days to unwind. What we didn't anticipate was how seriously the resort took health precautions and cleanliness without compromising the excellent resort experience. Throughout our stay we were able to leave the worrying behind and truly enjoy nature and the beautiful property. Our room was very comfortable and had pastries and fruit instead of breakfast in the lodge. Coffee was served just outside the lodge as well as some great food for lunch / dinner at the lean-to. Great Pines is a beautifully renovated lodge with several types of accommodations. We stayed in the main building (2nd floor) in a king room with a gorgeous view of the lake. The interiors have been remodeled and feature beautiful woodwork, rustic decor, cozy furniture & amazing views. Staff was very helpful & pleasant. Really what knocks my rating down just a little are minor things. But there were several, so off comes a star. But I feel some of these will be ironed out as the staff gets a better handle on the running of the lodge. 1. Our room was nice- great bed, cute curtains, fun twig tables. But NO bureau or shelves to put our clothes. We had to keep our stuff in our bags & keep moving them on& off the bed. Just odd. 2. Great fireplace in lobby. It was snowing when we arrived. No fire. Huh. We would've loved to sit down by the fire & sip a drink or two - but it was never lit the 2 days we were there. 3. Rooms in main lodge are all heated centrally - no individual thermostats. Our room was sweltering. We mentioned it & the front desk lady did go & turn it down some but mentioned we might have to open our window! Well ok. Instead, we put a bath towel over the floor heat vent which blocked most of the heat. At least we didn't roast at night lol We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Great Pines & consider these complaints to be fairly minor. We would definitely go back. read more

I'm sad at the way we were treated here. This place is run by rude millennials who have no clue about the hospitality industry or what it takes to run a business. I have never heard so many excuses in my life. Their website and what they advertise is completely misleading (except for the views). This is NOT a 4 start hotel. Not even close. Nor can they justify charging their 'resort fee' for a coffee that's never available in the lodge. Complete ripoff. This is a beautiful spot for a hotel and restaurant, but this one needs A LOT of work and a general manager with hospitality experience. Disgusting!! As another reviewer put it, "Shame on you!" A beautiful setting but apparently property owners are only concerned with taking money in and not maintaining any part of the property. We stayed in the king cabin, with a lovely (NOT!) view from the front of the cabin of the back of the kitchen area and a junk pile view from the bedroom...no screens on the bug filled windows so could not open them. Carpet was disgusting, floors in the bathroom were "spongy" so you felt they were going to give any minute. Staff was surly and unhelpful at the continental breakfast counter, did not even respond when we said good morning to them. The general property was so neglected we did not want to eat in either restaurant for fear of getting sick. An added insult was the "resort" fee of $16.24 added to our $304.18 bill, plus a dog fee (for our 12 lb.Yorkie) of $54.13. Unbelievable...and it was mid-September. It is just so saddening (and frustrating) to see how this property could have so much potential, yet no one in charge seems to care...very disheartening. read more

Our experience at Great Pines has been nothing but extraordinary. Devlin and Brita have done an amazing job and created an atmosphere that offers comfort, a feeling of friendship, and relaxation. This place is a true gem. The best word to describe it is "cozy," which is what one wants when the weather is freezing, and you've spent the day snowmobiling. The large, 100+-year-old stone hearth, with a moose head above it caps the overall impression. The rooms are basic but clean and warm with very comfy beds. Most, if not all, of the rooms have access to the outside patio. The lakeside rooms have a beautiful view of the large lake and the pink sunrise. The owners are really nice and accommodating. I just completed my 4th weekend in roughly 6 years, and I hope to come back for years to come. read more

This establishment has made a complete turnaround from where it been before this new ownership. The renovations are stunning and fitting, has a modern feel and is still an authentic Adirondack lodge. Very disappointed in our entire experience here on 7/9/20. First off, they automatically charged us a 20% tip before we got our meals. We ordered our own food at the cash register and not once had a waitress wait on us or ask if we needed anything. It was all self serve which is fine. We questioned them on the tip and asked why we could not pick the tip amount we felt was appropriate. They gave us a lame excuse that they charged us 20% to pay their employees and then admitted that we could have picked our own tip amount. Secondly, they got our order wrong and asked if we still wanted the food! Thirdly, the steak in the flank steak sandwich was cold and raw. The manager tried to tell us that this was how it's made but that they could throw the meat back on the grill. That violates the food safety regulations and is completely unsanitary in a time of COVID!!! The waitresses were rude and the manager completely lacked customer service and any knowledge of the food safety requirements for a restaurant. We have a home on 4th lake and eat out regularly but we will never return to The Great Pines. read more

Clean room and neatly furnished. Emailed receipt gave a lot of info and when we checked in we asked about the mini fridge and micro. Was THEN informed that the chef did not like them and there was none on the premises. Even tho my emailed receipt states we need to confirm ahead of time to get on in our room, of which we did many times, making that request. Toilet needed to be plunged, so we were supplied with a plunger that we needed to use, lol. Thought that was a bit odd. Had to go to the lodge to get more toilet paper too... breakfast was a bit late on the first day too. Parking is wherever you find a spot. Overall not bad. read more

My new husband and I just had our mini-honeymoon here for two days. This was the best stay we've ever had in a hotel EVER. We were greeted by Charlotte, the front desk receptionist, who treated us kindly and like we were her family coming to visit. We stayed in a Lodge Lake King room which has a balcony you can lounge on and enjoy the view of the lake. We were able to open the windows and listen to the water and let the breeze flow through. The beds were so comfortable that we overslept both days we were here. We ate at The Lean-To and got the buffalo cheese curds, and they were the best things I've ever had. I ordered a Turkey Brie sandwich (omg). You can't beat the beer selection here. They've got some of our favorite IPA's on tap: Collective Arts, Fiddlehead, Maine Brewing Co (Lunch), and even The Alchemist- Focal Banger in cans. We were in heaven. This dock has THE BEST VIEW of any establishment on the entire Fulton Chain. Please do yourself a favor and stay here. It's SO relaxing and comfortable. I am still laying here enjoying the Adirondack breeze, and I may never leave. read more

This was absolutely lovely. From mixed reviews on Expedia we were a little nervous however, this was absolutely adorable and quaint. The setting was positively breathtaking. The Adirondack decor was right on point and pulled off in a classy (not tacky) manner. Breakfast was certainly not gourmet but, it was just fine. They offered bagels, muffins, fruit and yogurt. The rooms were very clean. It is about 8-10 minutes from the water safari and the main things to do in town. It's located right on a beautiful lake with spots to sit and enjoy the view. read more

This resort does have real potential, but I can't recommend it yet. The contrasts are stark. The new young owners are welcoming and go out of their way to help their guests. The views are great. The log arches and lighting greeting you are cool, but the unfinished pool is an eye-sore. There is inadequate parking. The wooden furniture and walls are high end; the bathrooms are below par. For example, the sinks and toilets appear to be years old. The toilet seats appear to be even older. As mentioned by another guest, the knobs/controls for the sinks and showers are very odd, leading to scalding or freezing showers until/if you figure it out. When we arrived, their telephone, their power, and their computer reservation system were down. Apparently a vehicle had taken down a nearby power/telephone pole. I understand. Accidents happen. What was their recovery plan? They ordered free tasty pizzas for the all the guests. How about adequate back-up generators instead?? Lastly, we were there for a wedding. Come Sunday morning when we all were getting dressed up for the ceremony, we found the resort's water pumps had given out, hence no water. Fortunately, all in our room had managed to take showers earlier, but I know that some other guests staying there for the wedding went to the wedding without a shower---completely unacceptable. The new owners need to finish the pool, expand the parking, gut the bathrooms,and buy adequate generators and working water pumps. With that done, I'd come back. read more

We have been coming up to old forge for over 20 years, and as much as they have really improved the lodge and bar the service has to be the worst in town. Have to admit the food is very good. The tuna is one of the best I've ever had, but the bartenders have to learn how to cater to their clients. We have have tried coming their a few times and every time the rudest bartenders around. My husband and I were there for our 10yr anniversary. The room was ok however we had no hot water, our outside light did not work and there were so many burn stains in the carpet that it was gross. We told the front desk about the hot water and we were told that we just had to find the "sweet spot" of the faucet. Oh well get maintenence. Maintenance comes and my husband tells him it's the valve and he said you know more than I do. I can't fix it. That was the end of it. No one ever got back to us at all. There was a fireplace in the room and we were told they shut it off in the summer so that was not in use. I should also point out the pool was not in use and no one told us at check out nor was this mentioned anywhere on their website. The cleaning person did not speak English and when he left our room he never put more coffee or sugar in our room so I asked him to please put some in, he nodded but we never got coffee for Sunday morning. A side note we requested that strawberries and cheese platter be in our room when we arrived however, no platter was there and they said they had no record of the platter. They never said they were sorry and on Saturday am they said they doubd5 the information but never did anything to make it right. When we checked out they had us a 10% discount and I said that hardly made up for not taking a shower our entire 3 day stay. So after all that she gave us another 10% off and said that was a great price for this time of year. Seeiously??? We will never go back! read more

Have eaten at great pines several times, everything was always good. We were there Saturday and were very disappointed. Brought out of state relatives telling them how great it was. They were disappointed. Food was "ok". Waitress was in a fog acted like a space cadet. We asked several times for Splenda an Parmesan cheese she brought it after the 3rd request. Food was mediocre. Failing already. Too bad!! read more
