Whitefish & chips for the grown ups and cod fish and chips for the kids!
    Robert M.

Omg THIS place is a MUST stop if you're traveling Michigan! Everything is made fresh from the batter to the sliced & fried zucchini, the French fries (chips) and the fish itself! The batter was the perfect layer without being too thick but still had the crispy crunch which went perfect with that homemade and surprisingly almost sweet (from the mixture of the pickled flavor added) tartar sauce! The whitefish was very moderately priced (you'll find many places rack up the fee) for the meal on 2 and 3 pieces over getting the cod fish and chips - but that was great too for the kids meals! Our 5 year old actually finished his and went for our fish when we usually have trouble keeping him from the fries and getting him to eat the fish. The staff was friendly and even though the whole state (and country) is experiencing staffing issues but they sat us quickly, the server was happy and a fun Nana and the food came fast! You'll probably want to order a beverage while you visit to enjoy while your food cools because it came straight out and was fresh off the fryer, so let the food cool a minute. Thank y'all at Great Lakes whitefish and chips for an amazing meal!

Looked forward to eating fish and chips a few feet away from the water. However, I extremely disappointed: the fish had no flavor, fishy odor, heavily breaded and not cooked well (thick pieces). The tartar sauce was also disappointing-just tasted of mayo. It was not even edible and had to throw it away. Overall, not worth the price for the poor quality. Would not recommend that restaurant for their battered fish.

The fish breading was sort of wet/under cooked so much that it sort of slid off the fish. There was nothing crispy about it. It looks good but it's almost as if it's steamed or boiled instead of fried. Sadly, we didn't finish it, what a waste! We feel bad for wasting food and wasting money but we just couldn't do it. My daughter who is crazy obsessed with fish refused to eat it after 1 bite. The chicken strips were not house made but they were very crispy and delicious. The fries are fresh cut, crispy and excellent! They do have grilled sandwiches on the menu so I'm assuming that is actually the best thing to order there. I might consider coming back for a sandwich and fries but not the fish! The staff was very friendly! The store and bathroom were very clean and welcoming. They have a huge collection of vintage boat motors and taxidermy. Stop by for a soda, premade snacks and some french fries.

Piled it on bread the next day and was very happy. Smoked whitefish chowder was homemade with love and care and I would drink this by the gallon. Whitefish and walleye baskets were to die for. And the whitefish sandwich was as amazing as you'd expect. Bonus: the fries that came with the sandwich and baskets were also utterly delicious. Cannot say enough good things about this place. I will definitely make this a regular stop coming in and out of the UP and plan better so that I can take more home from here next time. Big thanks to the wonderful staff for their hospitality and pride in their food.

Gorgeous patio; clean, casual, hip. It is so fun to watch the Ironton ferry shuttle people and cars back and forth. Ample parking with waiting areas filled with beautiful flowers and water views. If you come during lunch and dinner rush, expect to wait. The staff are all wonderful. Many staff look young yet they are all friendly and well-trained. We watched a manager respond to a challenge seating a large group and were impressed with how gracious and friendly she was with customers who appeared disgruntled. Now for the food: honestly, if this review were based on taste alone, y rating would be closer to a 3-4. However, portions are ample, well presented, arrived hot and were good. In an area with great food, it's definitely the ambience and wonderfully run restaurant that keeps us coming back. And the prices... so reasonable we had to do a double take when we received our bill. We shared two entrees and drank only water, yet were still impressed with the reasonable pricing. Great place for families.
