Fried picked were bomb, service was good and fast, however I got the cod dinner and one of my pieces of fish had an entire soggy piece of skin with scales on it and some kind of baking soda or powder inside that made me have to spit it out because it was so sour and bitter. Probably wouldn't come back because it did make me lose my appetite. The other meals were like by my friends but the soggy skin and uncooked powder was just nasty read more

Love the Thursday only chicken pot pie, and love the fried zucchini appetizer! Have always had fish and chips in pasta- outstanding. Experienced friendly servers. read more

Rude walked in and the waitress put a hand in our face and said we were full.......don't waste your money or time!

I always have to get whitefish and chips whenever I'm in an up north lake town in Michigan - and I suggest you do too! Great Lakes Whitefish & Chips was a good option for this visit to Charlevoix. My boyfriend and I split the 2 piece platter (comes with coleslaw and fries). Our server was really nice and asked if we wanted an extra coleslaw. The fish was perfectly fried and not too heavily breaded. The fries were average, nothing too special. Pricing is average for this type of meal in a town like Charlevoix. It wasn't my favorite ever whitefish (that would be Scalawag's in Petoskey and Blue Water Grill in Grand Rapids) but it did the trick! read more

Great Lakes Whitefish & Chips - 2 piece whitefish dinner. A MUST when in any up north lake town in Michigan. - Salad Near Me - Charlevoix, Michigan

Been going to Charlevoix every year over the 4th for 20+ years. This is one of the best restaurants for excellent food, service and all around fun atmosphere! Great whitefish! read more

Omg THIS place is a MUST stop if you're traveling Michigan! Everything is made fresh from the batter to the sliced & fried zucchini, the French fries (chips) and the fish itself! The batter was the perfect layer without being too thick but still had the crispy crunch which went perfect with that homemade and surprisingly almost sweet (from the mixture of the pickled flavor added) tartar sauce! The whitefish was very moderately priced (you'll find many places rack up the fee) for the meal on 2 and 3 pieces over getting the cod fish and chips - but that was great too for the kids meals! Our 5 year old actually finished his and went for our fish when we usually have trouble keeping him from the fries and getting him to eat the fish. The staff was friendly and even though the whole state (and country) is experiencing staffing issues but they sat us quickly, the server was happy and a fun Nana and the food came fast! You'll probably want to order a beverage while you visit to enjoy while your food cools because it came straight out and was fresh off the fryer, so let the food cool a minute. Thank y'all at Great Lakes whitefish and chips for an amazing meal! read more

Great Lakes Whitefish & Chips - Whitefish & chips for the grown ups and cod fish and chips for the kids! - Salad Near Me - Charlevoix, Michigan

Looked forward to eating fish and chips a few feet away from the water. However, I extremely disappointed: the fish had no flavor, fishy odor, heavily breaded and not cooked well (thick pieces). The tartar sauce was also disappointing-just tasted of mayo. It was not even edible and had to throw it away. Overall, not worth the price for the poor quality. Would not recommend that restaurant for their battered fish. read more

Terry has the formula for success. Great food, great service from a great staff. Had the white fish for lunch. Always spot on. Been going here as long as he has been in business. Thank you read more

t was very busy inside so I was optimistic that the food would be good. The person that greeted me on the bar side was very nice. I put in a to-go order. The waitress that took my order was very rude - still extremely rude when I came back 10 mins later. I spent $36 on 2 orders of fish and chips. (I gave a large tip because of covid). Undercook fries and soggy fish. Our dogs seemed to really enjoy it though! read more

I was there with friends for the 2023 Venetian Festival and stopped in for a to-go drink, purchased three drinks (one was a cocktail) the other two beers and left a very generous tip. My friend poked a hole into his cup which obviously had a lid so to use a straw and the owner jumped up started screaming that he could lose his liquor license due to that. He offered to replace the lid with a new one because we never heard of this rule, now the owner becomes irate and screams ; ....get the fuk out !!! Viens popping, eyes buldging and stinking of booze we get up to leave and he bumps into my friend pushing him out the door. I asked the older gentleman that was next to me if we had done anything wrong, he said we should just get up and leave that the owner had been drinking. We spoke to others at the event about this and all agreed that the owner (Terry) must have been drinking. Now I am 71 years old and eat out often and never have I ever come across such an un professional restaurant owner so obnoxiously arrogant, rude, disrespectful and physically confrontational. Have another drink on me Terry ! read more

My fiancé and I stopped here for a quick bite before the bridal tour at Castle Farms. We shared a three piece whitefish and chips that came with a small side of slaw, tarter sauce, and french fries. The breaded fish was the best I've had...there was a thin layer of breading on the fish and the fish was good without any tarter sauce. I actually wasn't impressed with their sauce or slaw, so my fiancé had no problem eating those. When I come back to Charlevoix, we'll probably check out a few other restaurants before we come here. The service was pretty quick and friendly. read more

The food was outstanding and fresh! Definitely recommend the whitefish, Coconut shrimp and fried zucchini and hamburger. 10/10 recommend!

Great fish! I had the lightly battered whitefish and my husband had the blackened. The fish nearly melted in your mouth! The sides were okay but nothing to rave about. You're visiting this place for the fish not the sides or the ambiance ... but it's worth it! read more

LOVE this place! I've been to the UK and all over the world and the fish and chips here ranks in my top 3 anywhere. Get the whitefish. (In fact, wherever you get fish, get the local fish). I'm a local so I've been here innumerable times, consistently delicious! read more

Do not eat here during COVID-19. This restaurant clearly doesn't respect its customers, because it is NOT respecting COVID-19 guidelines. They are cramming people in, despite the 50% capacity guidelines. We were elbow to elbow with the table next to us. Most members of wait staff were wearing half-shields instead of masks. I heard several patrons complain as they were being seated about the close quarters. One table had to stop the hostess from seating a large group at the table next to them because they were eating dinner with their baby (!). No apologies from staff, just irritation at having to move the group. This restaurant is blatantly flouting the rules and putting customers at risk. read more

Fish was good as usual but disappointed in their Covid precautions. Elbow to elbow at the bar, every table full, and a good share of the employees wearing 1/2 face Shields instead of masks. Not the place to be if you have any COVID concerns. read more

Food was fair. restaurant very busy obviously they don't believe with the covid and do not comply with State of Michigan order. restaurant at about 80% waitresses were wearing masks half ass read more

We last ate there in August 2019. We've been eating there at least once a year for the last 20 years and the quality has always been good until this year. I had the whitefish and chips and the fish was not as fresh as it has been in the past, nor was the slaw. In my opinion, the food at the Landing restaurant at the ramp to the Ironton Ferry at the South arm of Lake Charlevoix is now a much better choice. read more

Had lunch here. I know this part of our great ( America has ALWAYS BEEN GREAT) country is known for its White Fish dinners, so I had to try a Whitefish and Chips dinner. I also ordered there fish chowder and will say that it was " Goood chowdar Johnny ,Goood chowder " I should have ordered a bowl of it! Ok my Whitefish am chips arrived and I will say that they didn't skimp on the portion. Nice big Fried chunks of fish lots of chips, little bit of tartar sauce and I Dug in. How was it you ask? Well my Yelp friends it was awesome really really good. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this places white fish and chips and chowder. read more

The best fish and chips I have ever had. I am from lower Michigan and have eaten fish and chips in most of Florida, nothing touched this places fish and chips. The service was excellent and provided a friendly atmosphere. They did also accommodate to a large party! read more

Best I can say is the food was adequate. Atmosphere was adequate. Food was served on plastic salad plates. I wouldn't recommend it unless you're starving and nothing else is open. read more

Service was good and the cheese curds were very good. We both ordered blackened fish tacos and it was disappointing that a place specialized in white fish was not serving fresh fish. They tasted "fishy". read more

The fish is great but the sides leave you wanting more. I would come again for the whitefish or walleye dinner with the understanding that the fries and slaw are going to be a bit disappointing. read more

Fish and chips was pretty average. Service was decent. Typical tourist restaurant. I'd recommend looking beyond the main strip for places to eat. read more

Usually my go to place for fish & chips in Charlevoix. Unfortunately, this visit a couple of days ago was a real disappointment. I ordered the Whitefish and it was overlooked in the deep fryer to the point that the fish was hard and dry. Beyond that, the fish filets were very small. Not at all what I'd come to expect based on previous visits. read more

My wife and I had dinner here based on previous reviews also a Sunday night. We were not disappointed. The service was very good, I had the perch dinner and my wife had white fish.
