Efficient, quick, and great communication about the service for my car! Great Lakes has been amazing to work with!

Please save yourself the headache and go somewhere else. I just got my car back after three and a half weeks of the worst customer service I've ever experienced. Their automated phone system repeatedly hung up on me after long hold times -- and that was the only way I could get updates, since they never followed through on promised callbacks. My service rep, Alex, repeatedly told me he would call with updates, yet I never received a single one. At one point, he claimed he had tried to reach me multiple times, but it turned out he was calling my parents' old home number -- a line that hasn't existed for years. I have no idea how they even got that number, especially since all my interactions with them had been through my mobile phone. Not only was the communication abysmal, but the sense of urgency was nonexistent. My car sat there untouched for the entire first week because they hadn't even started diagnostics. When I called for an update, they couldn't even locate my vehicle in their system. After finally determining the car needed a new engine, I was told there was no way to get a loaner in the meantime. Then, when they said it was finally fixed and ready for pickup, the check engine light came back on immediately when they pulled it up -- right back to square one. Having no car, no communication, and then being expected to pay for something they missed in the first place is unacceptable. This dealership clearly lacks organization, accountability, and respect for its customers. Do yourself a favor and take your business to any other Kia dealership. read more

Auto Boutique having pissed me off royally, I decide to call my #1 gal Gabby from Great Lakes Kia and stop by on my way home. We're in a peculiar situation with a car purchase, and I found one at Capital Kia (Great Lakes now) a month prior to submit to GMAC for approval. Gabby was most helpful then. But it fell through. So yesterday, we look at a Ford EcoSport which had some high mileage for GMAC, I think, but I loved it. She and her team worked to find me something GM can't complain about: a 2020 Kia Soul with under 15K miles on it. That's right, boys and girls, I Said under 15K miles. Not a Ferrari or a Bugatti, a Kia. Two hours after we arrived, (see picture below), we have a (new to me) new Kia Soul. And I Still say there's an "e" missing from Soul (where's Kia made? S. Korea. Figure out the pun yerself, I'm not explaining all of my Dad jokes lol) I love Capital Kia. They treat you right. Every customer chair in the place is leather. They are all reasonably intelligent (I mean they quickly understood what "substitution of collateral" means, that other place ... the idiot looked at me like I'd grown a third head), and worked with me through every step. They kept in touch with me and honestly, that's why I returned to them. I like helping out people who care. It's just me. I should be picking it up Tuesday. Now all it needs is a software update to immobilize the engine... LMFAO :) read more

I paid for service including an oil change, and they left my oil tank EMPTY. My low oil light came on a day after leaving with the dip stick below even the lowest hash mark. The service employee told me I should drive it back (a 45 minute drive on the freeway one way) even though it was critically low because "I wasn't going to race it at a track." My husband had to go to an AutoZone, fill my the oil tank up and then drive it back to the dealer. He was told it would be 45 minutes, and what a surprise it took an hour and fifteen minutes. After all of this, we weren't even offered a complete refund for the experience, just a partial refund for the oil change portion of the original service. I spent 1.5 hours at the dealership the first time, and then was offered a free tank of gas if I would lie on a survey and give them a perfect score by clicking I waited under an hour because it is "a metric they're working on." How are you working on it if you're trying to fake your data? Doesn't that defeat the purpose of data and using it to improve? It's especially ironic given my service wasn't even near perfect. read more

Updating my review: Originally I put a really nice review because I always try to if I can. Honestly, I had a terrible experience as I went in to buy a specific car and they had the wrong car pulled out front for me after even confirming. So when I finally drove the car and fell in love, I found out it wasn't the car I was trying to purchase. So, I had to purchase one that was said to be on the lot, but wasn't. Fast forward... weeks on weeks on weeks (more than 2 months) after telling me the car was on the way, it wasn't. Finally, I got the car and hated it - it wasn't even the one I loved. No matter, I dealt with it. After selling me a car, the dealership asked me to write a positive review and include their names, and they would provide me with a $150 gift card (which I think is illegal, but still went with it). After writing a long review, I contacted Lance (salesman) and told him I completed the review and would like my GC. He told me he would send it immediately. I received nothing. Then I called back a couple months later to give him some time and he said he was immediately reaching out to management who would send me the card momentarily. A year later... no gift card, still hate my car, and the dealership lied. Don't do business with this place. It was bad once, and now it's even worst with this management, including Wes. I contacted this Kia dealership to buy a new car after trying and failing with 2 other dealerships. My sales associate, Rick Yilmaz, sent me photos of the car on the lot to confirm the exterior and interior were in the colors I wanted, and after letting him know he had exactly what I was looking for, he called to let me know that the car was ready and waiting for me, and if I did the deal the same day, I'd be able to lock in the price I was budgeting for before the tariffs hit. Rick was kind, courteous, and helpful and he did what no other dealership could do: confirm that the car was in the right colors to make an easy sale! I was able to stay within budget and get the exact car I wanted, and I owe it to Great Lakes Kia. I would definitely recommend Rick and this dealership to anyone looking for good customer service as they're buying a new Kia. read more

BUYER BEWARE I purchased a used car here in May. The car broke down 4 days after purchase and had to be towed back to the dealership. Since then I've been given the run around several times. Brought my Kia Soul in this week for new tires and an oil change. It was easy to make an appointment at their website, and as always, I was treated very courteously and punctually. Took my car for recall service. One month later the recall repair went bad. Either they should simply have done the recall work correctly, or they should have done the repair as warranty work. What they did was contact some sort of Kia tech line and it took 1.75 days (and my having to argue multiple times with the service rep AND the service manager, who by the way was extremely rude) to finally tell me that Kia would "goodwill" my repair at no cost...but they didn't have the part so in the end it took THREE DAYS for me to get my car back. No loaner cars, and precious little communication. I let them do the "goodwill" repair, but will definitely never go back for any other service work. When I finally picked up my car not one word of apology was spoken. I won't buy another Kia. read more

I went to Capital Kia yesterday, without an appointment, to look at a 2021 Kia Soul that was on their website. I brought my husband along, but he has nothing to do with my actual shopping or purchase of a car. I was so pleased that Chad Kunz, the sales associate who worked with me, was professional and once it was clear that I was the customer, he directed all conversation and questions to me. That is still far too uncommon with car dealers. I test drove the car, and ended up buying it! The finance manager, Rodrique Henry, was also professional, listened to me, and made the finances work out the way I wanted. Overall I had an excellent experience and I am very excited about my new car! read more

I've been here for multiple services, but I'll just speak to today's experience. I scheduled on line and once I set up my account my with VIN, the recall I was scheduling for was already in the system for me! There were plenty of appointment times to pick from - I just picked a morning that I was already working away from the office. I got here right at 9 and they were ready for me. I brought my laptop and a coffee mug - knowing that I'd be able to work and get a cup of java. Turns out - they are under new management and the already NICE work area has been upscale and is now AMAZING. Several couches - each with a large TV. Several nice long wooden tables with stools and potted greenery on it. A nice blend of tile and carpeting. Very classy. They had coffe (no decaf unfortunately - so I'm a bit shaky) but no fruit or donuts like before. That's OK - I'll take the upgrade over a donut and an apple. The customer service personnel are friendly and very polite. Truly a concierge service. I have been getting my regularly scheduled maintenance all done here. I can not only get it done while I wait, they periodically send out coupons so it costs no more than elsewhere. They are even washing my car - although I said they didn't need to as it is to SNOW tomorrow. I will definitely be back!! read more

Just went to capital Kia to check out an SUV. They tried to sell us in the higher trim even though we didn't want it. The sales guy seemed reputable until we got to price. Then the car was suddenly 9K over MSRP. He insisted on showing me the monthly cost, not the sales cost. The interest rate was 2% higher than it should have been. And the numbers did not add up. I can add and apparently they think people are stupid. Then he went to the back to ask his manager and suddenly the price went down 3K. But it still didn't add up and when it didn't add up again it went down another 2K. It's like magic how their price goes down when you start asking questions. They also charge you 1500 for some mandatory treatments which should be options. If you are waiting on a car coming in you can reserve it, but they require a non-refundable 1000 deposit, so if you don't buy the car you're screwed. Every other dealer refunds it if you don't buy the car. Needless to say, we did not and will never buy a car there. Avoid at all costs unless you want to be scammed! read more

Not happy...Great Lakes Kia first offered loaner car when vehicle needed engine replacement. No loaner was available so we were required to rent a car with reimbursement at the end of our rental period (this was wrong, GL should have rented a vehicle for us or taken one of the hundreds of vehicles on their lot to create another loaner if their fleet is too small). Then, at end of our rental period we were told our reimbursement could take up to 90 days since corporate Kia processes claims (wrong again, GL should have reimbursed us and dealt with their corporate office for reimbursement). Definitely lacking in good customer service. read more

This was my first car buying experience that I have no complaint about. My sales specialist Zach Berger was very informative and kept everything relaxed. I originally went in for a 2018 Kia Soul the I've been wanting for years. I narrowly missed out on purchasing the last one. Not to worry, they pulled a 2019 out of their inventory and I felt that it was a great fit after a test drive. The finance manager who's name escapes me walked me through the warranty which is impressive. My car has an extra layer of protection to ease some new car jitters. I still side eye anyone who looks at Loyalty funny though (yes, I name my cars, deal). The whole process took 3 hours which seems like a long time but the process flew by and was never rushed. *Shoutout to Zach for helping me with my first brand new car purchase. read more

I purchased a 2014 Chevrolet with over 160,000 miles from Capital Kia back in May of this year (2022). The experience purchasing the car was great. Our salesperson was kind and had wonderful customer service. The vehicle had a little bit of cosmetic damage, but nothing that I was worried about, plus it was in my price range. I did turn down any warranties, however the only offered to me was for tires. This would have added at least another $300 to my total for something that I did not see worth adding. The car drove great for about a month before the check engine light came on. Took the vehicle to a repair shop who found that it had been sold to me with a completely rusted out exhaust pipe, a leaking coolant hose, a battery that was overcharged, a bad alternator, and an electrical transmission issue. All together, these repairs cost well over $1,000. I understand that I signed a contract to buy the car as is, but I feel pretty ripped off after paying $6,000 for a lemon. I would not purchase a used car from this dealer again, maybe a new, but definitely not used. read more

If you are going to buy a vehicle here, make sure to NOT sign a SPOT DELIVERY paper (from ANY dealer) and make sure its on the correct vehicle. I purchased a 2021 Kia Telluride from Capital Kia. Due to the demand of the Telluride all of the dealers within 250 miles of the Washington, D.C. area were charging a markup ranging from 5k-11k over the MSRP. I purchased from Capital Kia because they were not charging a markup and were selling the Telluride at a fair price. The staff was extremely helpful and responsive to my phone calls and emails. I worked primarily with Brittany W. and Alex who provides great customer service and made the process painless despite not being able to be at the dealership in person. They provided suggestions for shipping companies and assisted with the vehicle being picked up. I would definitely buy from Capital Kia in the future. read more

My review is for service only. I've come here twice to get my car serviced and will keep coming back. I find they have always estimated my fix accurately in terms of time. The staff has always greeted me politely and with respect. They even have these punch cards for an eventual free oil change which is really nice. I went to Capital Kia yesterday for the annual check up, knowing my car was making noise that sounded like there might be an exhaust problem and to get an oil change, etc. After an hour, I was told that my cat converter was clogged and it would cost $1544! I immediately called Chris Cozad, owner of Alternative Auto and she said ,"no way!" In Fact she said that Cat Converters have an 8yr/80,00 federally mandated Must fix at no cost! I presented this info with the rep and he said, "well, it might not be clogged ". Really? You just told me it was clogged In the waiting room. So I demanded to actually see the problem. The exhaust pipe is broken! That is it! (Damn Potholes!) On the phone with Chris again, she said it could be welded and she has someone who can do it, and that they were trying to rip me off. I then went back in And asked why they couldn't weld it. Everything else was in great shape and there is NO problem with the Cat converter! They said they don't weld and this was my only option, to replace everything from the muffler back to the cat converter! Still questioning why they initially told me it was clogged vs broken, they stumbled with their words and suggested I bring it to a muffler shop or boutique shop. Well, I might not have considered Alternative Auto Care to be a boutique car shop but why not? I have an appt on Monday and I am so thankful Chris Cozad took the time to take my call as she was leaving for vacation. She saved me a lot of money and aggravation. Can't recommend due to poor customer service and very understaffed in their Service Department. They've had my car for an engine replacement for almost a month. I purchased a used car with the extended warranty. I have an issue with the electric trunk switch not working properly. I made a service appointment in early August for a late August availability. When I arrived yesterday, I was informed that due to call-offs that they can't troubleshoot an electrical issue and all they are doing today is oil changes. He apologized for not being able to take care of my scheduled appointment. An apology does not take care of my trunk latch. I was informed that I could drop it off during the week and they could look at it. Well, I work M-F and it is not an option and is why I do it on a Saturday. I asked why didn't someone call me? All I got was another apology. Very poor customer service. read more

We took our Kia Soul to the service department to get the key remote replaced. We had been quoted approximately $170 over the phone to get this done. The cost ended up being nearly $300, including $30 for tax! While they had the car, they did a basic inspection, even though we had only come in for the key remote. They told us that the tires were worn and needed to be replaced. I find this very interesting, since we just got 3 brand new tires in December and the car has barely been driven since late March. We won't be back. This place is dishonest and will try to rip you off. read more

Very grateful to Aki for trying to help meet me in the middle on a deal. Attentive and thoughtful. Would be happy to buy from.

I first went to Capital Kia the end of Nov 30th 2022. I was looking for a Kia Seltos. I got a salesman who said oh we have one coming in a couple weeks. They asked me to put down a 500 dollar deposit and I did. I had to haggle for my trade in. Carmax was giving me way more then Cap Kia was. When I finally showed them the paperwork Carmax had printed out they came within 500 dollars of Carmax's price. I followed up with my salesman in a couple weeks later and no reply. I finally go to the store and they said he is no longer with the company. No one decided that someone in management should of called his customer base. As I am standing there is disbelief and random salesperson walks by they just assign him to me. December goes by no call no follow up. In January I finally make another trip (because they don't answer phones) to find out my car has been delayed but they don't know where it has been delayed at. A manager gives me his card and tells me to call him if I have any problems. A few more weeks go by I text my salesman and he was not working that day. I text the manager and no reply. I go to Kia again to find out the manager is no longer with the company. The vehicle finally came in toward the end of January. I went in to see it. I said I wanted some custom things added by a custom auto place down the street that does that type of work. We dropped it off for them to do their work. The owner said it would be about a week before the car will be ready. Prior to the car being done, they wanted me to come in and sign the final paperwork before being able to take possession of the car. I said no. They wanted to close out their books for January. I said I will sign paper work when I pick up the car. Finally the car was done, I went in to pick it up they tried to low ball me on my trade in. I advised them that the manager who was no longer with the company gave me a higher price for my trade. They said they had no record of it and was going to take 2,000 off my trade. I produced the paperwork and they had to honor it. They also acted like I didn't put 500 down to hold the car. I had to remind them of that also. When it came down to signing paperwork with the finance guy I was very disappointed. He talked so fast and then his numbers didn't align with what I was told would be my trade etc. Toward the end after the paper work was signed, I asked about the package where you could pay for your oil changes, tire rotations and services up front. Because he didn't want to redo the paper work he said it wasn't worth it all it was was prepaying for the stuff and didn't recommend it. Although I talked to a few of my friends who have bought the package and they said that was not true and that I should have gotten that package especially with the cost of things rising. I would not recommend this dealership to anyone. I will not be getting service done there and I will not be back. Their management is horrible. read more

I ultimately purchased a car from this dealership; however, I was thoroughly disgusted with how they handled the entire process. First of all they tried to get me to pay $10,000 over the list price. I had a rookie sales person who couldn't answer any questions, so there was a communication disconnect between our sales person and all the answers he had to get from his manager. Therefore we were confused and put down $1000 to hold the car when it arrived at the dealership. We did not understand nor did we sign any papers that said that thousand dollars was in fact my buying the car. I understood it was just a hold the car so I could look at it when it arrived. The customer service people and sales people were completely unresponsive when we called to find out any information. The dealership had taken my old car in because the battery was dead. They said if I decided to purchase the new car they would just absorb the cost of the battery and put it on their lot at the appropriate time. However when I was frustrated with their haggling and trying to get my old car back, they said they didn't know where it was. I could only assume that they had already put it on the lot for sale. This was shocking to me. In the end they also didn't return my license plates to me from my old car. Even the F&I person tried to pull a fast one in terms of the interest rate on my loan. I would say to anybody, do not go there to buy car! read more

I would absolutely NEVER buy a vehicle from this dealership again. While at the dealership, my husband and I were made fun of by a sales associate. The general manager was made aware of the situation and did not apologize, which shows the lack of leadership the entire dealership has. They also never took our down payment although all paperwork was processed stating that we had paid our down payment. It took them 4 days to realize THEIR mistake and then they called demanding immediate payment. It sounds to me as if they need a complete overhaul. I also believe our situation should have been taken care of to a MUCH higher degree. Overall - horrible experience. I want to leave two reviews. First, Tom was very pleasant to work with and appeared to be very professional as a salesman. However, that is the only good thing i will be saying about this dealership. Second, I was made fun of by one of the salesmen while I was standing right there. I was walking back to tell my salesman that i was putting more money down, and i just so happened to walk in on him and another salesman discussing what my last name just so happened to be, and the other salesman (Darius) made a joke about it. Darius and another manager later tried to make me think that i did not see and hear what exactly happened, as if i made it all up in my head. While contemplating walking out, I stayed because they were going to take $500 off the price (the manager told me that he was only making $56 on this sale so there is no way he could go lower- I am an attorney, do you really believe your customers are that stupid to believe a dealership is only making $56 on the sale of a car?). I went through with the sale because i fell in love with the car- I needed a reliable car for my family. However, i was very flustered, and you could see that they wanted to get me out the door after everything occurred. The only person who was slightly sorry what occurred, was Tom. Now, four days later, Capital Kia is calling me telling me they did not collect my downpayment and that I need to arrange to do so. After you have embarrassed my wife and I in front of other customers, i do not believe it is my responsibility to ensure your employees do their job and have proper manners. On top of everything, I was there for 4.5 hours and only test drove ONE car. The process is made to tire you out to purchase a car. Overall, I am very upset with this experience. I had my eye set on one car- the car i purchased- thso that I could have a safe, reliable vehicle for my family. I was determined to walk away with that car, so I did. But to do so, i was made fun by an adult man, and then forced to make up for the dealership's faulty workers in financing. If this is not rectified once and for all, I will keep this post up and make sure that I post on every single comment section that I can to ensure others know what I did not when walking into Capital Kia. read more
