In my humble opinion... The best hobby store in town. Not the biggest. Not the most broad reaching in toys and hobbies. As an RC and model rocket enthusiast..who dabels in models, slot cars and drones...the combination of experienced staff and an online system which is second to none make this my go-to store. It really helps that I can compile and place an accurate order from there webpage before leaving the house. I really appreciate the ability to look up my RC and have the replacement parts and even "hop-up" parts all there and easy to find. If you want little kid toys...check out the competition on Gateway. If you want accurate inventory. Experience. Check out this great chain! Only complaint is that service can be slow...so never go if you are in a rush. But really...it's not their fault. Every customer is a fellow hobiest, and simple requests often quickly turn to investigation, upgrades...and piles of parts and excitement! read more

Great Hobbies-Poor service! I came to the store hoping for some help but I was hardly in the door before the mask police told me my mask was unacceptable. This is a mask provided by Costco for clients with breathing troubles. No one else in the store, but I guess their own safety being compromised was a priority so they were happy to let me take my business to Hobby Wholesale. They were very helpful there and had NO ISSUE AT ALL with full face shield protection. read more

Great Hobbies has a huge selection of stock for RC enthusiasts and model builders. In addition to the kits themselves, the store has a wide inventory of parts, paints, and building supplies. They sort of bridge the gap between Hobby Alley and Hobby Wholesale. They have a little bit more than the former, especially as far as supplies are concerned, but not as much as the latter. This store has awesome personable, patient service. I like to build kits of Canadian military vehicles, which can be near impossible to find in this country. (How ironic is that?) And if you're able to find one, the store usually charges an arm and a leg for it (Comex Hobby). I went in to Great Hobbies recently looking for one of these hard-to-find model kits and the counter-dude (never got his name) went out of his way to help me find it. It turned out that Great Hobbies doesn't carry kits made by that company but he still did an internet search for me to help me find out what other stores in the area may sell it. (Nobody does.) I was disappointed to walk away empty handed but I appreciate that he took all that time to help me. There's always eBay. The only drawback to this store is its location. It's kind of out-of-the-way if you live in the centre of the city so it's only worth going there if you have a few things to pick up. The prices are decent though. They're a little cheaper than Hobby Wholesale. Great Hobbies is located in a more industrial part of town so their rent is probably lower than some of the other hobby stores, presumably allowing them to have cheaper prices. They don't have price tags on their stuff but they have price scanners inside. I'll be back. read more

This place will rip you off, take your money and they don't care about you. I bought a 500$ RC car that was broken out if the box and they wouldn't return it, Exchange it or offer me anything but a 50$ part that took 2 weeks to arrive. Went to hobby wholesale instead and they helped me that day and were awesome. Don't not give your money to these selfish crooks YOU WILL REGRET IT. And your bank account will too. read more

This place is not bad. They are good for buying parts..they seem to excel in that department. The service is pretty good. There's one fellow behind the counter who is very knowledgeable and will help you get that right part for your plane. I ordered a couple of parts from them and their delivery time was decent and spot on from what they told me. Their prices seem a bit high to fair though. Overall I would come back. read more

Bought some parts for a new RC I purchased, got called out of town for quite a while. The parts were suggested buy the sales person and one didn't fit. It still has the original packaging and the sticker from great hobbies on the package. They would not take it back even though I wanted to purchase more parts. I have purchased a lot of toys from them and because of this incident I will never buy from them again. Have shopped here since getting into the RC hobby. Have put the store through its paces on all aspects, knowledge, price, warranty, and stock. I've spent a pretty penny here, as we all know the hobby is expensive. Today I finished my ties to this business, and will never return. To make a long story short, from day one, I bought a new short course truck, didn't drive well out of the box, obvious receiver/transmitter problems, ended up running under a dumpster due to lack of control, took truck back within 2 days and was told all they could do was fix it and test it out before they deemed it warranty or not. Lost my new truck to great hobbies for two weeks to find out there was no issue in their unprofessional eyes. Took this issue to the manufacturer who actually tested the transmitter/receiver combo to find that the combo did not work together, the manufacturer held up to their word and replaced both products, but because of great hobbies I was without my new truck for 6 weeks instead of 4, and would have paid over 500$ for a non running properly short course truck out of the box. Next item on the list... Ordered parts for my truck, needed differential housings, not in stock, so Put in a special order in for them, told they would be here in 7 days. They were there in 7 days, but I didn't receive any notification to that. But luckily, a friend of mine owns the same truck. Because my special order parts were sold to him, and again, 14 days later, 21 in total, my truck was back up and running, but my friend had spare differential housings way ahead of me... Good business practices great hobbies... Wish I could drive my truck... Now to skip a few items and get to the final straw, the straw that broke the camels back let's say... My daughter finally decided to get into the hobby with my wife and I... Let's go shopping... Took my daughter in, birthday present, let her ask questions, get opinions, get the truck home, what a surprise... It's transmitter is not bound to the receiver, not too big of an issue, bind the two, do the routine run through, take it outside, get ready to run, and the truck has a mind of it's own, drives in circle with nothing being pressed on the transmitter, the truck chatters when close to the transmitter, it can't be run without flipping, all in all would've been better off with a Walmart special. Within three hours I was back at the store receipt in hand, being told to leave the brand new truck with them again after waiting almost an hour to talk to a manager. I now assume this is their answer to everything, and when the truck sits in the shop for two weeks we will be told there is nothing wrong with it... Been there done that! Not only did the manager not know how to access the battery on the truck, he was trying to force the battery cover, he didn't even know that you could charge the truck without removing the battery cover... He sure was quick to recommend a truck he knows almost nothing about... Needless to say, your odds and your money are safer online, I now have to dispute the costs on my credit card, as I am not leaving another truck with these guys for 2 weeks, I will contact head office and take my concerns to the manufacturer, it's a quicker process. Once they take your money, good luck on anything, warranty, returns, exchanges, store credit, the manager should tell you point blank, not going to happen! Best buy staff have better knowledge than this hobby store, if you take any of my advice, stay away from here, order online, might cost you a little more, but people that don't even live in the same country care more about your business than these folk do... read more
