My wife and I are very grateful for finding Jim to train our four year old German Shepherd rescue. Our 85lb girl is easily excited and we would lose control of her at the mere sight of another dog, cat, squirrel, or rabbit. When she lost control, she was way too much for my wife to handle. Crazy as it might sound she was advertised as "cat friendly" by the rescue. Months later, we still had our two cats in separate rooms since our new dog only cared to hunt and chase the cats with wild abandon, and once she lost control she didn't seem to hear us.
We looked around for trainers and had trainers suggest shock collars and multi-week doggie boot-camp (i.e. out of my sight). Absolutely not, I had a sweet but overly excitable girl and I didn't want a police dog. I definitely didn't want anyone to inflict pain on an innocent animal.
Jim came by the house and spent a long time discussing a plan and being honest that the cat issue might not be solvable. Jim did think he could help us gain control of our girl and improve her focus on us. Since that day, we had two multi-week sessions that our dog absolutely loved. Our working breed dog loved the training and responded amazingly well to the positive training techniques. A solid base of obedience training and turning her focus more to us worked wonders. Amazingly, once we got her focus and could control her, we were able to slowly introduce the cats. I had my doubts but Jim taught me so much and gave me the tools and confidence I needed. I highly recommend Jim and Great Dog. For us, Jim was the perfect trainer. read more
