The reason for the 3 star instead of 5 star: a man who came to my door quoted me a 4-6 hour moving time after looking at my home; he also gave me a price estimate. They sent out 3 men and a truck, starting at 9:30am. They were unable to pack all my things in one truck, and had to go back (an hour +delay), finishing the job at 8pm. The cost was shockingly higher than I originally expected. The movers themselves told me they should have arranged 5 men and two trucks to complete the job in a much shorter timeframe. This is a management issue that should be addressed.

We hired a crew of 3 for the day. They worked hard and were very helpful. We did end up paying more than planned, but I chalk that up to the fact my in laws had done even less packing than we had expected, and they had more items than we realized, so time added up. They also came back at the end of the week to move a handful of things from storage, including very heavy, full filing cabinets of genealogy paperwork that is important to my FIL. I was busy doing things myself, and I didn't think they'd need to be supervised, but they were trying to get everything done so fast that they constantly dropped boxes, dropped whole loads off of the dollys, and shoved everything in the truck no matter which way they had to stuff it in. Needless to say, they damaged stuff while doing this, and still couldn't fit it all in! Then they just left for the new house leaving all of my remaining property sitting outside of my apartment! Not only that, they left it all blocking the staircase that 2 other apartments use! During all of this, the boss showed up to help. Never introduced himself as the owner, didn't apologize for the situation, and copped an attitude when I told him how terrible this whole situation was! We got to the new house, and the movers apparently got lost, so it took them over an hour on a 20 minute drive. When I called to inquire about where they were, the owner said, "Well, they've been working hard, and probably stopped to eat. They're human too." What kind of answer is that?! I'm not paying by the hour for them to stop and eat! I hadn't even eaten myself all day because of this situation! Regardless, they got lost, and the owner didn't have a clue what he was talking about. They unloaded everything, and couldn't even put most of the stuff in the right place. It ended up taking 8 hours total to move a 2-bedroom apartment with 4 guys working! The owner said he gave me $100 off, but the total still came out to 8 hours of work. Now, the owner is completely ignoring me about damages. He's extremely unprofessional, hardly ever answers the phone, takes hours or days to call you back, no apologies or regrets at all. I've moved dozens of times in my life, and this was, by far, the worst move ever. Avoid this business like the plague!

Their customer service reps always sound defeated, probably because they are constantly dealing with rightfully irate customers.

Let me tell you a story... My scheduled movers didn't show up on time. In fact, my scheduled movers…read morenever showed up at all. After numerous attempts to contact them, we decided we needed a new mover - we had to be out of our house that day. In a panic, we fired up our network of friends, agents, co-workers, etc and eventually made contact with Castle Rock. They were already on a job that day but promised to show up when they were done -- they actually showed up to our house earlier than they anticipated. These guys worked their rears off for us for 7 hours - keep in mind this was their second job of the day. Understand they NOT the cheapest movers around but they are the best. The movers are company employees, not day labor from the Home Depot parking lot. They treated our lower quality furniture just as delicately as our nicer items. They wrap furniture in padded blankets, then in plastic wrap. The worked until every piece of furniture, art, and yard tool was moved. I was super impressed. End of story... p.s. Tip your movers. We even bought our guys lunch and drinks because this was a long unplanned day for them.
