I hadn't visited a Perfect Look Hair Salon since the early 2000s, but I'd heard they offer…read moreaffordable perms, so I decided to give it a try. In calling around, I was honestly taken aback by how much people pay for hair services these days--wow! But this salon quoted me a reasonable price and managed to fit me in on relatively short notice. I'm always experimenting with my hair. I've been getting highlights for years, and I can never decide whether I like my hair short or long. I'm constantly trying new styles, so why not try a perm, right? Overall, my experience at Perfect Look was imperfect and underwhelming. The stylist was distracted and barely spoke to me throughout the appointment. I felt a little uncomfortable due to the frequent, unexpected body contact--nothing inappropriate, but a lot of slouching and leaning that just felt sloppy and unprofessional. The stylist also left several times without explaining what was happening next, so I was left wondering how long I'd be waiting. At one point, I heard them chatting on the phone for a really long time, which made me worry a bit. I mean, I didn't know if my hair would spontaneously combust, or just fall out if it was left too long. But then I realized, I've never had a buzz cut, which could be fun, so I had nothing to lose except for a hundred bucks. When it came to the final result, I was pretty disappointed. The curls started only about two inches from the roots, which just made them flop over onto my forehead. There was no bounce or tightness, just flat, lackluster curls. In the end, what was supposed to be a fun experiment ended up costing me more than I'd hoped--within a week, I'd cut my hair short again. I wasn't impressed at all.
