I checked in online and was given a 57-minute wait time. I arrived approximately 20 minutes early, checked in with staff when I got there, confirmed that I had already checked in online, and was told to have a seat. I then sat in the lobby for about 15 minutes while stylists finished other cuts.
Finally, a stylist came over, asked my name, and asked what I wanted done. After I explained that I wanted a few inches taken off with layers and curtain bangs, I was told, "That's going to take longer than 17 minutes and we are only open for 17 more minutes."
I have genuinely never experienced a customer being turned away for a haircut after already waiting in the salon because the service might take "too long." I previously worked at Great Clips myself, which makes this even more surprising to me.
If timing is truly a concern, then the online check-in system is flawed and should account for the type of service being requested before customers are told to come in and wait. Instead, I wasted a significant portion of my evening sitting in the lobby only to be told that a standard women's haircut could not be completed because the salon was nearing closing time.
Most women's haircuts take longer than 17 minutes. That should not come as a surprise to a hair salon.
I can absolutely appreciate that stylists are ready to end their workday, but in that case, the salon should either stop accepting check-ins much earlier than 17 minutes before closing or honor the appointments/check-ins that were already accepted and seated in the lobby.
Overall, the experience was incredibly disappointing, unprofessional, and frankly embarrassing. read more
